New Roof Vent Proves a Winner for Shepley Conservatories

The latest addition to Shepley Window Systems’ product range is an improved conservatory roof vent.

Quantal Natural - Best of Both Worlds

Natural internal timber finish from Quantal Conservatory Roofing Systems is the perfect choice for homeowners who want all the aesthetics of a traditional timber conservatory combined with the durability, low maintenance and authentic period styling that the Quantal external aluminium roof offers.

The patented, real sapele wood veneer of Natural is permanently bonded to the internal cladding system that easily snaps into place. It can be simply stained or varnished just like ordinary timber to perfectly match the side frames.

Natural has been specially designed and subjected to accelerated testing to confirm its suitability to withstand the harsh environmental conditions experienced by conservatory roofs.

Samples were exposed to a continuous cycle of testing: three days total immersion in cold water, three days at 120°C, three days at minus 20°C for a total of 36 days, with no dwelling time between tests. The veneer behaved in precisely the same way as ordinary untreated timber.

The BBA approved Quantal Conservatory Roofing System features a polyester powder coated aluminium external finish that is durable and low maintenance.

Newbuild System Solution from Profile 22

Profile 22 has launched the new 88 series - a cost-effective 60mm window system aimed at the smaller installers taking a growing share of the market. With the latest Palmer Market Research revealing jobbing builders and owner-fitters now fit more than half of all domestic frames, it's clear this market has potential.

It's the reason why Profile 22 has created the new 88 series - a slimline chamfered 60mm suite of quality profiles to help its fabricators get a bigger share of the market, and grow their businesses.

The 88 series is a cost-effective alternative to Profile 22's higher specification and performance 60mm and 70mm systems. An aesthetically-pleasing system, it creates an attractive window due to its slimline appearance and sculptured sash.
Easy to fabricate and fit, the 88 Series is a complete and cost-effective suite of pre-applied gasketted profiles, also suitable for the newbuild market - again a significant force opening up new business opportunities.

Fitter-friendly in line with Profile 22's product philosophy, the 88 Series offers valuable manufacturing time-savings using the Bubblex pre-applied gasket. Fabricators can save 9 minutes 24 seconds on every frame compared to ungasketted frames.

The time is saved because PCE frames can be glazed quickly and efficiently as the seal is welded into position and is not displaced when glazing. Weathering performance and security is improved too, while general aesthetics in the case of Bubblex frames benefit from the use of lowline gaskets. Unlike some pre-gasketted systems, Bubblex cuts out five manufacturing processes but adds none.

Offering maximum versatility, the 88 series integrates fully with the popular 70mm system and is available in a choice of white, Light Oak, Rosewood or foiled-on-white.

Newdawn ‘Corners’ the Market

In response to growing demand for decorative features within the completed conservatory installation, roof systems manufacturer Newdawn has introduced a new range of decorative corner covers to complement its existing interior fascia range.

Easy to fit and available in an aesthetically-pleasing design, the new corner covers add that finishing touch to give a professional finish to all fascia installations without the need to cut or mitre joints.

These are in addition to the standard range of internal fascias which have a ribbed effect and are now also available in Veka white as well as warm white, high (blue) white and three woodgrain versions; golden oak, rosewood and mahogany. All are available with multi-angle corner covers to provide a neat finishing touch.

Newdawn’s programme of continual development will see over 20 new products launched over the next three months to take its system to the next level.

Stain-Free Partnership

Sheets of Polycarbonate are widely used in conservatory roofs, canopies and other applications where a lightweight material is needed to form overhead protection. Sometimes prone to staining if sealed with a bitumen based flashing,
polycarbonate has a suitable partner in Foilband Seal and Repair Tape from Hodgson Sealants.

Comprising of a tacky non-bitumenous adhesive, bonded to a special tear free UV resistant film, Foilband offers a stain-free, long life seal when used with Polycarbonate, as well as offering benefits to the installer.

Foilband is safe to use - it adheres well at low temperatures and so warming up with a blow torch is not needed. Foilband is quick to use - no primer is needed on most surfaces reducing the application time compared to bitumen based flashings. Foilband is more aesthetically pleasing in many applications being available with white adhesive as well as black.

The combination of Foilband's special film and the flexibility of the butyl adhesive means that it can easily be formed around variousjoint shapes and is therefore able to be used effectively for sealing of T-bars in glazing with either glass or polycarbonate, for sealing joints in metal clad industrial and sectional buildings, glass roofs, caravans, and greenhouses, and also for repairing or replacing old lead flashing which has decayed or cracked.

Vanquish can be used as a replacement fascia without the need for a backing board. It is integrally grooved. This feature, combined with a 35mm leg, allows more installation flexibility, particularly useful for refurbishment work in older buildings.

Celuform claims that Vanquish is the most competitively priced mid range fascia available in the UK. To reduce stockholding costs, the product uses the same external corner and joint trim as Celuform Duoliner.

MGG Glass Patch Fittings System For Toughened & Laminated Glass Doors - From Häfele UK

The MGG range of high quality fittings for glass panels are now available from Häfele UK. Not only are they suitable for 10 & 12mm toughened glass panels, but they are the only patch fittings on the market that can be used with laminated safety glass.

At the heart of the system is a fixing point consisting of an inner conical sleeve and two pig nose bushes which form the main connection between the fitting and the glass. When using toughened glass the fixing point is bolted through a countersunk hole to secure it; if laminated glass is used the conical sleeve is secured using a UV bonding technique.

The patch fittings have a distinctive design which uses only about 25% of the fitting components in the standard range, all patches are supplied in brushed stainless steel or a polished chrome finish.

Pivot doors can be single or double action, they can be self closing on a floor spring or mounted on a free swing pivot, fittings from the MGG system are used incorporate fixed side panels and glass transoms to create a glazed partition with minimal fittings visible.

The MGG range also includes an option for a frameless glass sliding door which can be either manually operated or with automatic sliding operation.

The MGG is a versatile system, and is also robust, the maximum panel width is nearly 10% more than that of a standard patch range system at 1300mm, and has a maximum load rating of 120kgs per panel for pivoting doors. Along with the modern design, and durable operation, MGG components are easy to install and adjust.

Please contact Häfele UK for technical drawings, quotations or further information.

Remote Control Door Locks from Lindman

New from Lindman is a remote control system for opening and locking domestic front doors. Available on any of the Lindman ranges of high performance, low maintenance doorsets, it comprises an electrically motorised lock which operates on a programmable key fob in the same way as a car key.

Remote control access is likely to appeal to high value properties where security is important since it can be integrated into the intruder alarm system. As the control electrics are within the secured area of the building, there is no risk of tampering and if a key fob is lost, it can be barred and the locks do not need to be changed.

The system also has advantages for disabled and elderly people because it is easier and more convenient to use than a conventional set of keys. Doors automatically lock on closing so there is no danger of forgetting to lock up. However, it is still safe for fast exit from the property in an emergency, since the handle on the inside continues to release the locks manually.

This system is different from other electronic release mechanisms which only operate on single point locks. The remote control motor on Lindman’s system drives the lock inside the door so will operate as many bolts as are on the door edge. All working parts are concealed within door and frame.

The Elumatec SAS142: High Volume Production and Extreme Precision in One Automatic Saw

Machinery manufacturer Elumatec has introduced a new automatic saw for aluminium profile that combines high level production capacity with high precision. Recommended for commercial and industrial applications, the new SAS142 Automatic Saw has a large cutting capacity for wider profile sections and has been designed to produce high quality end results.

The SAS142 is driven by 4000 watts of power and offers a digital 2-axis control system for saw blade and material feed. Adjustment for different profile sizes is simple: the saw is equipped with a 500mm blade as standard and can therefore cut profiles up to 210mm wide. Both the saw blade cutting height and profile feed speed can be easily adjusted to suit the profile size, and all parameters such as speed of saw blade feed and speed for incremental material in feed can be memorised for every type of profile used. Cutting lists previously used can be recalled at the touch of a button and repeated. For full optimisation, variable profile lengths can be programmed to allow for automatic cutting of different length profile pieces. Mitre cuts of up to 45° are also optional and can be achieved by tilting of the saw unit.

‘However, where the SAS142 really excels is in the precision it can achieve in addition to its high volume output.’ says the company. ‘Considerable care has been invested in the design of the machine to allow for superior quality end results. Incremental material infeed protects the surface of the work piece as, when fed, the profile is lifted and removed from the back fence. This avoids the surface scratching that can often occur with this type of machine.’

The feeding system for the SAS142 is also operated by means of a precise spindle drive that provides accurate measurements. During the cutting cycle, the saw blade feed is controlled by a motor axis so that feed speed can be kept at a constant. After cutting, both profile sections are automatically pulled away to avoid contact with the saw blade as it comes down, producing clean and precise cut lengths.

Bohle Moves Glass

Bohle’s Glass Selector System for holding glass stock safely and securely is now available in the UK. Manufactured in Bohle’s own factory in Madrid, the System is already a widely used and successful solution throughout the region.

This space-saving system enables large volumes of glass to be held in stock in a relatively small floor area. Designed to take 3m x 2m glass sheets, it can also be specified to accommodate different size sheets or a range of sizes. The system’s modular design means customers can build up a totally integrated solution, adding as many modules as required. In addition, its heavy-duty construction allows the full range of glass thicknesses to be stored safely, even multi-laminates.

Easy to use, Bohle’s new Glass Selector System remains closed until the glass required is selected; the unit then opens hydraulically to reveal the glass type needed and allow access for the glass grab. A simple push of a button closes the unit again.

Bohle UK’s Managing Director Gary Dean comments, ‘Step by step we are rolling out Bohle’s full range of machinery and equipment from our factories in Germany and Spain to the UK market. Since launching it over here the Glass Selector System has generated considerable interest and we’ve already taken our first order.’

New Freefoam Products for Easier Fitting

Growth in conservatory construction and newbuild/renovation extensions has prompted a demand for irregular angled fascia joints amongst installers of PVC roofline systems.

Freefoam Plastics, a manufacturer of lead-free PVC fascia, soffit, cladding and rainwater systems, has launched its new range of Corner Joiners to help installers complete non-linear installations quickly and easily, saving them time and money.

In addition to the standard 900 corner mould, Freefoam now also supplies 1350 Internal and External Corner Joiners to match the company’s range of plain, ogee and magnum fascia boards, as well as 1250 Box Angle Joiners for their ogee range.

The extended range allows installers to fit an otherwise cumbersome job with ease while eliminating the need for mastic, which can discolour and draw attention to an imperfect finish.

The joiners are manufactured from a flexible lead-free material which allows fitting to a range of angles close to 1350 and conceals unwanted gaps.

Freefoam also continues to expand its product offering in other areas.

Recent additions to the roofline range include two new Over Fascia Ventilators, an Eaves Comb Filler and an Eaves Protector.
