Coat of Many Colours

As consumers are becoming more discerning and coloured conservatories are becoming more popular, Quantal Conservatory Roofing Systems is now offering its Fabricator Network the choice of Mill Finish aluminium profile, so that the roof can be painted in any colour the homeowner desires.

Until now, where a non-standard colour was required, the existing finish had to be removed before the new shade was applied. This was both costly and time consuming.

Richard Phelps, Production Manager at Quantal retail fabricator Trade Plas, explains, Many of our customers here in Nailsworth in the Cotswolds live in traditional style houses. When they decide to add a conservatory it is important that it blends in sympathetically with the existing architecture of the property and the surrounding countryside.

'We offer the whole conservatory in any colour. In this area the three most popular colours are green, cream and grey, and we are selling about one coloured conservatory a week, but this figure is increasing as their popularity grows. The introduction of the Mill Finish Aluminium profile has substantially reduced both time and cost of coloured conservatories.'

Trade Plas recently built a stunning gable fronted conservatory to enhance a Cotswold stone manor house. The dark grey Quantal roof compliments the leaded windows of the property, enabling the extension to blend in with the old building.

Another Trade Plas installation features a grey roof and green windows. Richard adds, 'The mill finish gives the customer the opportunity to decide on any colour option or combination.'

A Better Bi-Met

UK Fasteners Ltd, supplier of screws to the window industry, is launching a new high performing austenitic bi-metallic screw.

UK Fasteners believes in offering a wide range of screws and materials to choose from, prompting the launch. ‘It’s important to give fabricators and specifiers a choice, and the information and advice they need to make that choice,’ comments David Ballinger, Managing Director. ‘We are also aware that although many of the fabricators and specifiers are impressed with UK Fasteners as a company and are keen to be supplied by us, where the window is reinforced with steel some already have austenitic built into their specification and so need a bi-metallic fastener. We want to offer these customers a quality austenitic bi-metallic fastener too.

‘The design of the fastener is the culmination of months of research,’ David explains. ‘It brings together some of the best features available on the market, such as an optimum tip length and a locating collar under the head. As with all UK Fasteners’ products, test results for the bi-metallic screw will be freely available. We believe the performance of this new bi-met matches the best on the market and with its unique set of features may even have the edge on it.

‘This new addition to our WindowMaster® product portfolio does not detract from our flagship product, Marutex®, which I still say is the best stainless steel, self-drilling fastener available,’ continues David. ‘The launch of our austenitic bi-metallic fastener means that we now offer a solution for every application.’

Competively Priced Product for Irish Market

Everwhite, manufacturers of PVC UE fascias, soffits and accessories for window and roofline applications, has launched a 7mm ogee board - E7 ogee.

Designed as a budget board to be used alongside its sister product, E9 ogee, the board was primarily developed for the Irish market.

As with the E9 ogee its distinctive moulded feature makes it a popular board in Ireland but Everwhite believe it will also be attractive for the UK market with particular regional demand in the East Midlands, East Anglia and Essex.

Everwhite will launch its most comprehensive range of new products throughout the next year with over 200 new additions to the company's product line-up.

Tony Crutcher, Sales and Marketing Director at Everwhite, said: 'The E7 Ogee is only the first in a new line of products being launched this summer by Everwhite and these new products will make us a one stop shop for the specialist distributor of PVC UE window-line cladding and roofline products.'

Everwhite has BBA, British Standard kitemark, and holds the ISO 9001 Version 2000 quality and systems certification.

GBW Discovers EntryGuard

GBW has introduced EntryGuard, a new high security locking system for its Discovery range of composite doors. Developed by Winkhaus and featuring a heavy-duty integral guard bar, GBW says that EntryGuard offers a stronger and more attractive alternative to a door chain.

EntryGuard meets the requirements of both the ABI and Security by Design schemes. It provides a good solution for GBW's Discovery range as the door's twin-rebated frame allows EntryGuard to be fixed discreetly within the frame with no need for routing. The mechanism locates securely into the full length steel keep rail and once fitted it is concealed within the doorframe for a neat finish.
Not reliant on screws into the door face or frame, EntryGuard is more secure than a door chain and permits a better view of the caller than available with standard spy holes. One of the key advantages of the new locking system over a door chain is its disengagement facility by a keyholder from the outside. This means EntryGuard can be left permanently engaged for optimum security, while an authorised keyholder can simply release it from the outside by a 45 degree turn of the key.

The EntryGuard Knob for opening the door from the inside is available in a variety of material and finishes to match door furniture, including aluminium, brass and solid stainless steel. In addition, its ergonomic design makes it easy to use by the elderly and infirm.

'Security is one of the key priorities when specifying external doors and EntryGuard offers a highly effective alternative to current options. From the interest we've received so far I'm sure it will prove a popular option with our Discovery customers in both the private and social housing market,' comments GBW's Director of Sales, Geoff Foster.

Stopray Galaxy 'Confirms Glaverbel's Leadership' in High Selectivity Glass

Summer and winter alike, this coated double-glazing, Stopray Galaxy from Glaverbel, provides tailor-made protection against both heat and cold.

In summer, Stopray Galaxy provides that combination so much appreciated in all modern architecture - It lets a maximum amount of natural light enter the building while blocking out the heat of the sun and excessive glare. This subtle light/heat balance means that Stopray Galaxy is a highly selective* glass.

In winter, Stopray Galaxy provides protection against the cold. Its U-Value (1.1W/(m2. K)) makes it one of the most efficient double-glazing of its class the company claims.

Stopray Galaxy offers all year round thermal comfort together with a neutral appearance and low light reflection (LR: 16%). These qualities make Stopray Galaxy a favourite choice for all refurbishment and new build projects, large or small (conservatories, glazed roofs, offices and commercial buildings). This is a welcome addition to Glaverbel's neutral Stopray range, which now consists of 6 products (Carat 52/26, Cristal 61/40, Elite 67/37, Neutral 50/40, Safir 61/32 and galaxy 40/21).

* Selectivity: the ability of the glass to maximise light transmission whilst minimising heat penetration into the building.
