Windowlink Teams up with Quantal to Develop VectorQ

Windowlink has teamed up with Quantal Conservatory Roofing Systems to develop VectorQ, a specially customised edition of its popular Vector conservatory sales presentation package for Quantal’s retail network. The bespoke software forms part of its comprehensive new range of support initiatives for its approved conservatory installers, which also includes training, technical backup and advice on marketing and showroom planning.

According to Tony Marshall, Quantal’s Director of Sales, the key reasons for choosing Windowlink as its partner are the software supplier’s well-respected reputation and superior graphics, compared with other products on the market. 'In addition to the usual White and Woodgrains, we offer our roofs in a comprehensive range of traditional flat colours, Windowlink reproduced these special colours and their descriptions. In addition, we are proud of our unique appearance of our roof bars and Windowlink have also re-created these within the software so that the computer design looks every bit as realistic as the real thing. With these features we are able to offer a package that’s fully tailor-made for the Quantal product,' he comments.

VectorQ is primarily designed for use by salesmen in the home due to its speed and flexibility, the 3D views can be viewed or printed out together with base plans if required. Sales personnel can also superimpose the conservatory onto digital images of the customer’s house and garden to show how it will appear when looking at it from the garden and also how the garden will appear from inside the conservatory, The effect of changes of roof material, feature fanlights, flooring etc can be seen at the click of a button.

Quantal is offering VectorQ to its customers via a dedicated team of Retail Network Co-ordinators at a substantially reduced price. Tony Marshall continues, 'Ready-to-run and really easy to use, the package has been well received by our customers. Indeed, it’s proving a very useful sales tool and a valuable addition to our exciting new collection of initiatives for members of our flourishing retail network.'

Giles Hayhurst, Managing Director of Windowlink, views the partnership as a significant step in the expansion of its user base: 'By working directly with leading industry players like Quantal and their customers we can extend the commercial benefits of our design-to-sell software solutions to even more installers.'

SAS Sees the Bigger Picture

Senior Aluminium Systems (SAS), has launched its most advanced window system to date, at the Glass Products in Practice exhibition at the Building Centre in London.

Designed by SAS to meet with the thermal insulation demands set out by Part L (England and Wales) and Part J (Scotland) of the building regulations, SPW 300 joins the high performance SPW range offering a slimline polyamide window that provides cost effective style.

‘The new 300 window system has been developed to add choice and versatility to our fully compliant SPW range,’ said Derek Hodgson, technical manager at SAS. ‘Customers can now choose between the 300 and 600 window depending on the design and specifications they are looking for.’

Available in fixed light, tophung, sidehung, tilt-turn and overswing configurations the SPW 300 is a 51mm system that has been constructed using mitred and mechanically crimped corners, with support chevrons and cleats to provide accurate alignment. Integral transoms and mullions are installed by scribing the ends and then either screw fixing or bracket fixing into the outer frames.

Fully tested in accordance with BS 6375 Part 1: 1989, the SPW 300 is available in mill finish or anodised and can be polyester powder coated, with single or dual colour, at the SAS state-of-the-art powder coating facility in Denaby, South Yorkshire.

MAB Floor Springs Obtain ‘CE’ Marking to Confirm Use with 60-Minute Fire Doors

The recently launched high performance MAB floor springs operating on closing power 3 and 4 have been successfully used in tests on many types of doors issued with 60-minute fire certificates. As a result, the competitively priced closers - part of the 4200 non stay open range from Prefit - have a ‘CE’ marking stamped on the body of the spring.

The robust floor springs have an adjustable closing speed and come with interchangeable spindles to fit German, French and Italian bottom arms for timber or metal doors, and glass patch fittings. Spindles are also supplied to increase the gap under the door from + 5mm to + 25mm.

Only requiring a 47mm deep cut out in the screed flooring and incorporating a 5mm vertical adjustment within the cement box, the floor springs are suitable for installation in shallow floors such as offices. Requiring minimal maintenance, they come with a 2-year warranty against defect in material and workmanship. Cover plates are available in polished stainless steel, satin stainless steel and polished brass.

Prefit says the 4200 range has been well received in the market place, particularly amongst architects, shopfitters and glass installers.

Maximum Performance and Flexibility in Bending Spacers

With its new spacerbender Bystronic - Lenhardt provides manufacturers of insulating glass a high-performance and flexible machine generation for the bending of unfilled spacer profiles made of aluminium, steel, stainless steel or plastic.

During its initial presentation at Vitrum held in Milan last year the company says that the professional world expressed a huge interest in the spacerbender. In the meantime many customers are using it to optimise the cost of their production processes.

In principle the new spacerbender systems can process all materials that are capable of undergoing bending. With the high-production basic version, insulating glass manufacturers, who use aluminium or steel spacers, have access to a solution that is tailor-made to precisely suit their requirements. Tool changing is not required on this machine at all. It is irrelevant whether a profile bar of 6 mm or 24 mm is to be bent. Radii can also be bent without the need to change tools. It can handle profile bar lengths of up to 6m. By coupling the rods the system can generate a continuous bond.

To augment the basic version Bystronic - Lenhardt Technology also offers a versatile combination version specifically geared for production, in which stainless-steel spacers and alternatively aluminium or steel profiles can be processed. This machine version is equipped with performance parameters comparable to these in the basic version, but with a simple tool change it makes it easier to switch between different spacers materials.

Good Looking, Strong and Single

XT4, the new glazing bar from Synseal Extrusions Ltd, can span 4m without reinforcing or bolster bars even with 800mm centres! ‘Our fabricators find it easier and quicker to manufacture and installers are delighted the finished conservatory is even better looking,’ says Nick Dutton, Sales and Marketing Director.

‘We have designed the new XT4 to retain the common 78mm height of all our other glazing bars so it can be cross-utilised with other sections without compromising the look of the finished conservatory.

'The XT4 has been designed as a result of a customer suggestion submitted through http://www.syntek.co.uk the passkey protected technical site for our customers. The site is another way for us to get feedback from our customers. We listen to what they say and act on it. The XT4 is another example of us doing just that.’

Secure Apeer-ance is New World's

New World Developments says that its new GRP composite doorset, Apeer is as robust as it looks. 'Some of Apeer’s security features, developed over three years, are original engineering innovations with patent pending attributes.' says the company.

Although appearance is vital, the day to day rigours of modern life demand an entrance that can defeat the most determined intruders. Apeer has a double GRP skin and, combined with a 66mm thick aluminium-reinforced PVCu construction with a wood-free frame, it will not rot, bow, warp or crack. The solid door and frame design offers a safe, snug fit.

In addition, a glazed door can often be a vulnerable target for thieves, but with Apeer’s triple glazing system the glazed cassette is secured into the door with a patent pending grooved innovation. This makes it impossible to remove externally; it also has the added benefits of no unsightly fixings and makes cleaning easier.

'We examined every aspect of a door and improved it' explains sales manager Alex Moore. 'With a double rebate, multi-point locking mechanism and discreet, unassailable hinges, Apeer’s triple construction will prove a sound defence against intruders and a beautiful asset to any discerning home.'

New World knew security was a big issue so Apeer went through independent tests at Chiltern to gain PAS 23 & 24 as well as gaining Secure by Design status. With Apeer’s lasting colour qualities, as well as its distinctive pip detail, it is possible to make Apeer-ances stay true over time.

Getting Rid of Georgian Bar Headaches

While the end result is a superb looking product, many fabricators dread manufacturing Georgian bars. Applying them has always been a difficult, time consuming job. Edgetech can now offer an online solution to manufacturing Georgian bars with the Lisec machine for high volume manufacturers.

‘The head of the applicator makes a small groove for the bar to fit into, removing the hassle for sealed unit manufacturers,’ explains Andy Jones, Edgetech Sales Manager for UK and Ireland.

‘There’s no need for additional machinery because it’s all in a computer programme. And because it’s fully automated, it’s there if you need it but you can disable it if you don’t – it’s just a matter of selecting the relevant option on screen. Edgetech launched the new Georgian bar applicator at Glassex and has already had a lot of interest.’

Titon Launches Clip Fix Vent for Trimvent Select Range

Ventilation specialist Titon has launched the Trimvent Select E18, a new clip fix variant of its trickle ventilator, designed to make life easier for the window fabricator. The latest addition to the range, the new vent will save time for fabricators, as it is intended to be simply clipped in place, without the need for screws either during fabrication or in situ once the window has been installed, saving on fitting time in the factory, and making storage and transportation of the completed window more convenient and less prone to damage.

Designed for use with PVC-u window profiles, the Trimvent Select E18 is a semi-recessed model which protrudes less than most other models. It neatly covers the edge of the machined slot to providing a smooth line and stylish look on the finished window.

Provided the receiving slot is precision-cut by the fabricator, the Trimvent Select E18 is unusually firmly fixed for this type of ventilator. Testimony to this is the fact that Titon will be providing a cord control version, which is not generally possible with this type of vent. Providing all the normal benefits of the Trimvent Select range, this new vent features the multi-positional rotating Titon air deflector, and complies with ADF of the Building Regulations in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern lreland when installed in appropriate quantities. Synseal’s New T-Ridge Cover Moulding

Synseal Extrusions Ltd has introduced a new T-Ridge cover moulding to its Shield and Global conservatory roofs. Nick Dutton, Sales and Marketing Director of Synseal, explains the reasoning behind this latest improvement.

‘We wanted our customers to benefit from additional sealing over 90¼ ridge joints, because we appreciate that however accurate the mitre cut on the capping the base or frame work only has to be marginally out of square to leave an open butt joint. This open joint then requires silicon – sometimes excessive amounts – to seal the gap and make it look acceptable. Synseal’s research and development team is constantly looking for ways to reduce silicon sealing, and improve on what is already a professional, complete conservatory finish.’

The ridge cover is available in white and Global blue, as well as brown and caramel. Synseal customers can benefit from this new development on a wide range of roofs. A cut down version can also be used to achieve the same results on a P-shape conservatory, where the ridge meets the wallplate.

TruSeal Technologies Introduces Insuledge™ and DuraSeal™: True Dual Seal Warm-Edge Flexible Spacers Promote Energy Conservation

TruSeal Technologies, Inc., a specialist in flexible spacer systems for insulating glass (IG), offers Insuledge™ and DuraSeal™ as the next generation in warm-edge flexible spacer systems. Insuledge, the newest flexible warm-edge spacer from TruSeal, incorporates a proprietary moulding process to make it the only hollow, flexible, non-metal IG spacer system in the world. The company says that DuraSeal features a patented design that incorporates unique materials and a breakthrough in continuous composite manufacturing processes. TruSeal’s warm-edge, true dual seal designs for Insuledge and DuraSeal promote energy conservation with reduced K-values, limiting the amount of heat that is transferred through the edge seal spacer system.

Insuledge.
Designed as a true dual seal system, Insuledge can be dual sealed with most common structural and thermoplastic IG secondary sealants, including polysulfide, polyurethanes, hot melts and curable hot melts. The spacer’s hollow, non-metal core replaces conductive solid or foam materials with better insulating air space, making Insuledge lower in conductivity than the next best warm-edge spacer.

Insuledge’s flexible tube design makes almost any type of IG fabrication possible and cost effective. Fabricators no longer need to bend rigid, metal profiles or mix "u-channel metal spacers with foam or solid flexible spacers. Insuledge is perfectly suited for both standards and specials.

DuraSeal. Also a true dual seal system, the spacer’s patented design takes optimum advantage of laminates and adhesives to reduce thermal conductivity while improving surface and corner appearance over other flexible spacers.
DuraSeal is a multi-layered spacer system that results in improved condensation resistance, warmer edge of glass temperature, a continuous moisture vapour barrier, superior argon gas retention and reduced total window U-values.

DuraSeal’s inherent flexibility allows window manufacturers to produce both standard and speciality windows with a single spacer system, providing a simple solution for all applications and reducing the need to segregate high-volume rectangles from often profitable shapes and specials. A single spacer system is important since the future of the IG market will continue to place value on the advantages of flexible spacers that adapt to any window design.

Sierra Launches FibreClass Range of Entrance Doors

Recent market research carried out on behalf of Sierra Windows shows that that more than 60% of homeowners prefer the traditional appearance and increased security and insulation that a fibreglass entrance door offers. So, recognising this potential in the market place, Sierra has launched the FibreClass range of fibreglass entrance doors.

Brian Webb, General Manager at Sierra Windows, explains, ‘We have made a substantial investment in machinery and service to give our customers a package that is second to none.

‘We have the facility to deliver from stock 9 styles of pre-hung fibreglass through-colour doors, in red, blue, green or white, with 56 different glass patterns to choose from. And the turnaround time is the same as for window orders.

‘We believe that this product further consolidates the Sierra offer, making it the very best opportunity available to installers,’ adds Brian.

New Combi Glass for the Next Summer of the Century - Silverstar Development Combines Protection against Heat with Heat Insulation

The next summer will certainly come - and with it the hot spells that have caused an unusually high requirement for cooling down and numerous uncomfortable hours in the office because of the heat. Combi Glass Coatings offer environmentally friendly protection against interior spaces heating up. Euroglas is launching a new coating design with the Silverstar Combi Neutral 40/21, which completes the Combi range. The glass combines effective protection against heat together with good thermal insulation characteristics for the cold season. This product also has a high degree of colour neutrality.

Types of glass with integrated protection against heat have already existed for over 30 years. However, up until now, this functionality has been at the expense of important visual characteristics or the heat insulation performance. According to Bruno Gygax, who is the manager of the coating development for Euroglas at Glas Trösch Silverstar AG, ‘The high art of coating design consists of achieving an optimum combination of visually and functionally desirable characteristics’. In the case of the new Silverstar Combi Neutral 40/21, this succeeds through a combination of effective protection against heat and outstanding heat insulation characteristics, together with considerable light transmission and low reflection values. With a light transmission level of 40 per cent and an overall level of energy conduction of 22 per cent, the new Silverstar Combi achieves a ‘selectivity’ value close to the physically feasible level of 2.0. In addition, with only 11 per cent light reflection, Silverstar Combi Neutral 40/21 is recommended for transparent glass facades with large surfaces.

Thermal, structural simulation with convincing values
A structural thermal simulation on an actual planning example carried out on the instructions of Glas Trösch illustrates the positive effects that Silverstar Combi Neutral 40/21 has on the atmosphere in the building on hot summer days. Different glass and facade solutions were compared with regard to the necessary residual cooling loads and uncomfortable hours in an office space caused by heat, by the Ingenieurbüro priedemann facade advice team.

The result: The new Silverstar Combi Neutral 40/21 reduced the residual cooling load by up to 56 per cent during a simulated hot spell with an outer temperature of up to 32 degrees Celsius and without internal or external shading. Subject to the given parameters in the inner space, Silverstar Combi Neutral 40/21 will preserve a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius that feels thermally comfortable.

Projected to a working year (2,871 hours), the number of hours that are uncomfortable because of heat can be reduced by about 750 hours, when comparing usual glazing, (g value 60 per cent), with the cooling performance of the new Combi Glass. The considerable light transmission is an additional advantage; while a low-e glazing (g value 60 per cent) with necessary internal or external shading will enable a light transmission of approximately 20 per cent, this glass makes a convincing impression with the considerable value of 40 per cent, with unrestricted visibility.

Dipl.-Ing. Wolfgang Priedemann, the head manager of priedemann fassadenberatung GmbH, Berlin, summarises, ‘The structural simulation clearly shows the performance of highly selective glass coatings; it is possible to reduce air conditioning costs without having to do without a comfortable ambient atmosphere with regard to heat.’

New & Improved Tilt/Turn Handles: Lock, Stock & Barrel

With market interest in ‘tilt/turn’ windows at an all time high, Winlock Security has overhauled its range of both ‘tilt first’ and ‘turn first’ handles.

Two new and two improved Winlock handles are launched with improved styling and more features to cater for both the commercial and domestic markets and to build on Winlock’s success and reputation in this sector. The handles have also been branded for easy identification.

Winlock’s sales and marketing director, Philip Swann said: ‘The latest Winlock tilt/turn handles are stronger, better looking and offer additional security. We continue to enjoy a dominant share of the UK tilt/turn market and this significant investment in our new range will ensure that our position is strengthened yet further.’

Domestic Market
Winlock’s improved Madeley turn first and the Dawley tilt first handles will serve the domestic market, complying fully with minimum domestic insurance company conditions by locking in the closed position. The handles have been re-designed to look better and offer more strength. Dawley also offers the Winlock tilt/lock facility, which allows safety-controlled ventilation.

Commercial Market
Winlock now unveils two new handles for the commercial sector. The tough Broseley and Ketley, with thicker, heavier stocks and chunkier grips, are designed for the demanding specifications required for heavyweight environments.

Broseley locks at ‘closed’ but also has eight stop positions, which will give night vent at tilt as well as turn, plus the tilt/lock facility.

The Ketley offers free movement from ‘closed’ to ‘tilt’ allowing frames to be closed for comfort or, at tilt, for ventilation, suitable for public buildings, multi-storey construction and safety sensitive environments. Movement to ‘turn’ is protected by an extra secure mechanism, which an authorised key holder can easily release for cleaning.

All of the Winlock tilt/turn handles are available in a wide choice of specifications, 25 finish options as standard, a wide variety of spindle lengths that are compatible with all profiles.

Titon Adds Vent-Trex to its Powered Ventilation Portfolio

To add to its broadening ventilation capabilities Titon is launching Vent-trex, an overhead combined background and extract ventilator.

Vent-trex is suitable for refurbishment projects in the public sector where replacement windows are being fitted and extract ventilation needs to be provided as good practice. Tyson Anderson, Marketing Director of Titon, explains: 'Vent-trex is unique as it sits over the head of the window and is easily fixed by a window installer, and unlike more traditional products does not create any damage to the building fabric when it is being fitted; therefore local authorities and registered social landlords can make substantial cost savings by utilising this low energy use product.'

Vent-trex has undergone rigorous testing and is CE marked and IP rated to IP24. All relevant electrical standards are met within these tests. It complies with the background and extract requirements of the Building Regulations in the UK for ventilation. The product has a two-year guarantee.

Titon's new powered ventilators are suitable for the public sector, where best practice and best value is of a high priority. Titon is an authority on ventilation and window fittings and says its products are endorsed and regularly selected by architects, Local Authorities and Housing Associations across the UK. Titon also manufactures and supplies a comprehensive and purpose designed range of window handles, hinges, pivots, sash locks, espagnolettes and shootbolts for all types of window profile.
