Sunroom, the Stylish Solution to all your Conservatory Roof Needs

A new conservatory roof system has been launched at Glassex 2005. Sunroom, by Ultraframe gives installers the flexibility to create contemporary conservatory styles on almost any site while offering exemplary thermal performance.

Linda Doughty, Marketing Director at Ultraframe, said: 'We recognised the need for a fitter friendly new roofing system that simplifies the installation process of highly complex roof shapes. Sunroom gives installers the opportunity to supply a distinctive conservatory roof that appeals to the new generation of homeowners, who are looking for a modern and stylish, high quality and value for money product.'

The roofing system utilises Ultraframe’s Clicklock Technology. This ‘boltless’ technology is designed for ease of installation and ensures perfect structural integrity.

The Ultraframe Sunroom system includes the option of box gutters, in standard or large capacity, slimline valleys and dropped ridges which help make it flexible in design configurability. These features provide an almost limitless number of ways to cover a conservatory footprint allowing installers to realise their customers’ wildest dreams. The wide range of unique designs offered by Sunroom include 'P' and 'T' shapes, single or double ended, bay or square fronted, and floating add-on or integral wrap around styles. Designs can be tailored to create distinctive roof shapes that will complement virtually any home, including bungalows. (For example, a drop-down hip and slim-line valley can be used to join two ridges of different heights and create an attractive two tier roofline on 'P'or 'T'shaped roofs.)

Sunroom spans up to 4.8m x 4.8m with a choice of 24mm/25mm polycarbonate in five colours, although tie bars, available in either a traditional or new contemporary style, can be simply added to extend projections even further. With glass in the roof Sunroom spans 3.5m x 3.5m and Ultraframe has additionally designed a glass clip to prevent slippage. Sunroom is available in four colours and, like all Ultraframe products, is supported with full BBA accreditation.

Linda Doughty continued: 'Sunroom offers homeowners market leading thermal performance. It employs thermal sleeving and has a controllable stack vent trickle ventilation system which minimises heat leakage and condensation. A typical 4m x 4m Sunroom roof has a ‘U’ value of 1.7 making it, along with Ultraframe Elevation, the most thermally efficient roof available. This means that customers have the ultimate in comfort and installers have the added assurance that Sunroom meets the projected thermal performance guidelines expected in forthcoming Building Regulations.'

Sunroom also has many additional features to produce a flawless, contemporary finish. The Invertabar glazing bars ensure a stylish reversed bar profile creating sleeker internal lines. The roof is topped with a finial design with low profile ridge and optional clip-on cresting. Six exclusive new Ultraselect styles are also available to add a personal touch to the interior of the conservatory – one of the styles can even be painted to personalise the room further.

Linda Doughty concluded: 'The fast fitting and cost saving benefits, coupled with the attractive distinctive style and flexible options for Ultraframe Sunroom, are going make this a hugely popular conservatory roof. Not only will our customers find it extremely good value, they will have the confidence that the conservatory roof benefits from market leading thermal performance, and a contemporary design their customers will love. However, the achievements of Sunroom will not stop here. Ultraframe will be continuing to develop this roof system over the coming months to offer even more unique styles and further expand the boundaries of configurablilty.'

The Sky’s the Limit with Conservatory Roof Glazing Options from CWG

With respect to conservatory roof glazing, ‘Smart Technology’ was very much in the forefront on the Corby Windows Stand at Glassex this year. Two advanced roofing products, one glass, the other polycarbonate based were launched by the company as CWG CorbEglaze and CWG SmartPoly, both designed to provide installers with a range of conservatory options.

Manufactured from toughened glass as standard, CWG CorbEglaze is a high performance sealed unit developed specifically for conservatory roofs. It provides all round conservatory comfort with low E and solar control coatings. Argon fill improves thermal performance and an optional ‘Easy Clean’ external coating reduces build up of dirt and stains keeping the glass looking fresher promoting a ‘feel good’ factor with good light transmission and visibility.

A U value as low as 1.2w/m2K is possible so a dependable reduction in heat loss can be expected. The solar control coating reduces build up of internal temperature and excessive glare from the sun eliminating the need for costly internal blinds, no matter how bright it is. CWG’s CorbEglaze sealed units are quiet in the rain and there is both visual and thermal comfort all year round, reinforced by a ten-year warranty.

Available in 25mm or 35mm options, CWG SmartPoly is a polycarbonate based roofing material but with transparent heat reflectors in each of the flutes. A U value as low as 1.5w/m2K is possible and there’s a ten-year warranty against breakage due to weather plus loss of clarity and solar rejection properties.

Operation of CWG’s SmartPoly is simple and unobtrusive. In cold weather, heat is reflected back into the conservatory increasing comfort levels and keeping costs down but when the sun is out, up to 85 percent of solar energy is prevented from entering through the roof so expensive blinds are unnecessary. In fact, tests have shown there can be as much as a fifty percent reduction in internal temperatures between plain polycarbonate and CWG SmartPoly.

CWG SmartPoly is handled and installed just like ordinary polycarbonate but glazed roofs, including the latest CWG CorbEglaze, need no longer be a problem with the improved CWG Global Plus conservatory roof. Whether polycarbonate or glass, the new roof is reinforced with a brand new locking tie bolt. This adds incredible strength and stability to an already strong roof minimising the need for expensive and time consuming tie bars reducing site time and ensuring that a customer’s conservatory choice remains a stable and attractive, high performance addition to their home.

Fabricators on Fast Track with GU Multi-Keep

The new one-piece Multi-Keep from GU/Ferco is living up to its promise of providing fast-fit multi-point security. Designed to reduce fixing time and save money, the Multi-Keep was launched at the beginning of 2004. It is already proving a big hit with fabricators - including Doncaster-based window and door manufacturer, Direct Trade.

Established over six years ago, Direct Trade produces around 800 frames a week. Forty percent of its products are sold retail with 60 percent going to trade customers. The company switched from another hardware manufacturers products to the GU/Ferco Multi-Keep earlier this year - and hasn't looked back since.

'The one-piece keeper has significantly cut down on fabrication time and is much simpler and easier to install than traditional products,' comments Mick Bowley, joint Managing Director of Direct Trade. 'Rather than having to fit five separate keepers, we now have just one to fit which reduces the potential for fitting problems'. With just one piece to suit all profiles, the Multi-Keep is definitely more fabricator friendly. We have the system on display in our showrooms and it has received a very positive reaction from our customers,' he adds.

Multi Keep is simpler and faster to fit than separate keeps. It doesn't require cutting to length and the rear screws are specially positioned to fix directly into the reinforcing. With an immensely strong, all steel construction, it also features integral routing pockets and +/-2mmm adjustable compression on all locking points.

The system fits over 50 different profiles/combinations and is available for both timber and PVC. The smooth finish also eliminates the problems of snagged clothing. In addition, the keep height is just 6mm to give increased clearance between sash and frame.

Titon has a New Handle on Sliding Doors

Titon's commercial department is now offering a new handle for use with its Sobinco Pentalock high security locking system for sliding doors and windows. This represents a new, aesthetically pleasing departure for sliding door and window handles, which have often featured the closed position being upwards rather than covering the doorplate. The new handle comprises a gracefully curved arch attached at the top and bottom of the doorplate, making it easier for the end user to operate the sliding motion of the door. The locking mechanism is now operated by a discreet extra lever, which does not detract from the elegant lines of the handle.

This new design will appeal to architects and designers wishing to achieve a more 'cutting edge or minimalist approach to the sliding door design. Suitable for hotels, offices, private hospitals, care homes or up-market dwellings, the handle can be matched to the door and supplied in any RAL colour, or in Titon's exclusive brushed steel lnox effect finish, making it flexible and desirable for the designer.

For further information on Titon's window hardware or ventilation products, log on to the Titon website, http://www.titon.co.uk, or Tel: 01206 713800.

Less Waste. Faster Production. Less Down-Time.

'Less labour, less energy, less waste and more profit.’ These are the benefits promised to IG manufacturers by switching to Dow Corning 3540 Fast Cure One Part IG Silicone Sealant from Geocel. ‘Manufacturers using this convenient one-part silicone sealant will find it easier to achieve the EN1279 parts 4 and 6, and so realise full CE Marking.’ says the company.

‘Dow Corning 3540 Fast Cure One Part IG Silicone Sealant from Geocel has been specially formulated for the production of insulating glass units, it consistently outperforms non-silicone alternatives like polysulphide, polyurethane and hot-melt butyl. Its easy-application and fast-cure properties will reduce downtime and wastage for manufacturers making their production more efficient and profitable.

‘It's one-part formulation means fewer and simpler processes than those required for two-part polyurethane and polysulphide sealants. Dow Corning 3540 Fast Cure One Part IG Silicone Sealant does not require the system to be cleaned, adjusted, cooled or heated. Purging at the beginning and end of shifts - a procedure which can lead to 10-15% sealant wastage - is virtually eliminated.’

Operations can be easily stopped and started, offering manufacturers production flexibility. This flexibility is further enhanced by the sealant's exceptionally fast cure times. Touch dry in less than thirty minutes, Dow Corning 3540 cures rapidly in depth - a typical 3mm bead in less than twelve hours in standard conditions or less than twenty-four in cold climates. This makes a timescale of twenty-four hours from manufacture to dispatch a real possibility.

It can be applied using a manual applicator gun using a 600ml sausage pack or a pneumatic pump using 20 litre pails or 250kg drums. A secondary pib seal on the spacer bar completes the dual seal requirement. Single component sealant machinery requires much less capital outlay than dual component equivalents although existing two-part machinery can be quickly and inexpensively converted.

Dow Corning 3540 Fast Cure One Part IG Silicone Sealant's long life durability is due to its excellent UV and weathering resistance, unmatched service temperature range and low shrinkage. It demonstrates excellent adhesion to float, coated glasses and spacers maintaining a flexible seal for decades, reducing callbacks related to sealant failure.

Dow Corning 3540 Fast Cure One Part IG Silicone Sealant from Geocel complies with all of the requirements of the newly developed European standards EN1279 parts 4 and 6. When correctly applied, any IG units manufactured with the new sealant will comply with EN1279 parts 2 and 3 helping fabricators to obtain the CE Marking.

Geocel combines a wealth of innovative technical and manufacturing expertise with a strong commitment to quality in the non-silicone field and, therefore, complements perfectly the experience and excellence of Dow Corning in its field of silicone technology.

Don't Panic, GU has the Solution - and it's BS Approved

Fabricators have the solution to a long-standing door security problem thanks to a new BS approved development from GU/Ferco.

The new GU Secury with anti panic function lock and associated panic bar fittings has achieved the new European standard for doors of this type now covered under the new BS EN 1125 standard.

The main purpose of BS EN 1125 is to provide a safe and effective escape through a doorway in panic situations, with minimum effort and without prior knowledge of the locking device being fitted to any given door.

GU's new solution to an old problem now means that completely concealed locking elements can now be fitted to doors in PVCu, timber or aluminium profiles. In the past, fabricators have had to use unsightly surface mounted rods on the door, in the absence of a more attractive alternative being available.

As the Secury Panic locking system is based on the multipoint concept, neither the weather tightness nor security of the door is compromised at any time. The system represents a breakthrough in panic door gearing not only for PVCu profiles but also for other installations. This is because the concealed gear for panic door applications is equally at home on timber and aluminium profiles.

'This development is just what the window and door fabricator has been waiting for and we see it as a leap forward in an area which has been traditionally open to individual interpretation. Now that we have a product that has achieved BS EN 1125, there can be no doubt of what is the correct solution for hardware for doors of this type,' commented lan Ward, GU/Ferco's marketing manager.

There’s no Bull in Masterframe’s Continuous PVC-u Horns

Masterframe Windows Ltd says that it has combined the ‘best of product innovation with unique branding’ in the company’s latest Bygone Collection sash window continuous horns.

Until recently, the ‘horns’ of vertical sliders had to be made separately before being added to the finished window frame. Although it could be done well, there was always the feeling that it wasn’t quite right – particularly as the horns on original timber sliders were formed continuously with the rest of the frame. What’s more, a separate horn adds to the complexity of the manufacturing process and doesn’t look as good as ‘the real thing’.

With the addition of the latest manufacturing technology, Masterframe has developed a way to form PVC-U horns continuously. The company says that the result is a detail that looks as good as timber – especially when it is combined with Masterframe’s white foiled woodgrain finish.

Discussing the new combination, Masterframe’s Technical Manager, Ray Rabett says: 'What’s more, the window hardware on the Bygone product comes with the distinctive Bygone Collection branding. If it doesn’t say Bygone, it isn’t Bygone.

‘It’s a constant reassurance to our Bygone installers and their customers that they are getting the BBA approved quality product they expect.’

Ultrasonic Baths from Guyson

Guyson International - which acquired Kerry Ultrasonics early in 2004 - is now providing manufacturing, sales, support and service from its extensive 10,000 square metre facility in Skipton in the North of England, for its broad range of Kerry bench-top ultrasonic cleaning baths.

Pulsatron MKC baths can be programmed to maximise the quality and repeatability of results, allowing the user to pre-set exact cleaning times and temperatures, ensuring consistent levels of cleanliness from batch to batch and providing an affordable way to provide quality precision cleaning in such diverse areas as, optical and electronic manufacturers, medical, dental and technical workshops and aerospace and metal-finishing subcontractors.

The MKC units can thoroughly remove swarf, oil, grime, flux and other contaminants from a wide range of new and refurbished components, including those with highly intricate shapes. And with ultrasonic cleaning being inherently gentle, this makes it particularly suitable for less robust products such as printed circuit boards or precision parts. MKC baths are available in capacities of 6, 14 and 22 litres to suit different workloads.

Operating temperatures from 20 to 80 degrees Centigrade can be set in 1-degree increments, allowing the optimum temperature to be selected for a particular combination of component material, cleaning solution and contaminant.

All functions are controlled by a simple four-button membrane keypad. An LCD panel displays the temperature and time set by the user, the time elapsed since the start of the cleaning process, and the status of the power supply, heater and ultrasonics.

Smaller units are also available with 2 and 3 lire capacity Pulastron KC baths. KC baths being particularly easy to use, with a simple on/off switch for the ultrasonics and operating instructions printed on the bath's front panel. Cleaning of lightly soiled items such as medical and dental cleaning applications, electronics or optics may take only seconds. Removal of medium soil may take two or more minutes.
