Everwhite’s Extra Metre of Fascia Board Saves Material and Labour

One tell-tale sign that the fascias have been replaced in PVC-UE is the presence of joining strips. On all but the smallest of houses there is at least one joining strip. Now, Everwhite Plastics Ltd, roofline manufacturer, has introduced a new 6m fascia board that is designed to give a sleeker finish. The average mid-terraced house is 5.5 metres across, and this can now be installed using one length. And, because the average gable measures between 11m and 12m, Everwhite’s new board eliminates the need for joining strips between apex and gable box. Fewer joins mean less waste material and lower labour costs.

Everwhite’s extra metre of fascia board scores a hat trick of benefits for roofline installers. It saves them time and money; it makes installations look more professional and it brings them more referrals.

C & A Building Plastics

C & A Building Plastics, a large independent established in 1968, has announced the launch of its new brick, stone-chip and slate effect cladding system. This very simple tongue and groove system is easy to install, with the panels simply being fastened to wooden battens that are fixed to the host wall. The rear-ventilated system enables a building with damp walls the possibility of drying, and with insulation between the battens up to 30% energy savings can be achieved. This new cladding system to the market allows greater choice to the customer and can transform a property.

C & A has recently increased and improved its range of natural lighting systems for the flat and pitched roof markets. New to the range is Direct Daylight, a simple to install system allowing the natural daylight to enter parts of the building that could only normally be illuminated by artificial lights. Improving the quality of the living area and reducing lighting bills. C & A’s well established range of roof domes have also had a facelift, with them now being manufactured in polycarbonate as standard, giving the dome more security without degrading the quality of light transmitted.

C & A has a well established range of door surrounds and canopies. This range has now been expanded to also include Porticos, so now there is something in the range for every property in the market. These high detail products are produced from GRP creating a very strong but light weight structure, that are easy to install with few component parts.

C & A has also introduced a vented soffit mesh. The product is constructed of a high quality PVC coated 1.5mm mesh with high tack acrylic adhesive. This allows the loft space to be ventilated as specified by current legislation but prevents insects from entering and infesting the loft area. This will save the customer a lot of time and aggravation in later months and is an added selling point for the installer to secure the sale compared to competitors not offering this mesh.

C & A is well known in the industry for its external home improvement products and is opening up the inside of the house as well with the company's new range of creative deco moulds. The product range includes hard wearing but light weight plastic coving, skirting, ceiling roses, up-lights and panel moulds. These moulds are easy to install with the resilience of plastic but with the advantage of being able to be painted to match any colour scheme. These products are designed to complement C & A’s current range of internal décor cladding and suspended ceilings.

It's the Little Details that Put the 'Master' in Masterframe

It's the little details that make all the difference to a sash window. That's why Masterframe Windows Ltd has designed special dual-role packaging for small items of window hardware such as the handle packs for the company’s Bygone Collection PVC-U vertical sliders.

Every installer can relate to the frustrations of finishing a prestige installation, only to waste time and money having to make good or replace damaged window hardware. The installer looks bad and it doesn't reflect well on the manufacturer either. That's why Masterframe vacuum packs its handles and tilt latch knobs onto card. As well as protecting the fittings in transit, the reverse of the card features instructions and a fixing aid for the installer.

Ray Rabett, Masterframe's Technical Manager, elaborates: ‘The card has two sets of holes punched in it and a central V-shaped slot. The slot and holes form a drilling template to help the installer attach the handle to the reinforcing at just the right place. All the installer has to do is decide on the lateral location of the handles. It was so easy for us to think up because we spend our lives thinking about vertical sliders, yet it will save installers so much time and effort. It's what we're here for.’

Driving Down the Costs of Fastening

The air operated HSD hand screwdriver unit from Weber Automatic Assembly Systems Ltd is used in conjunction with a signal box which evaluates the OK/Not OK signals from the screwdriver to maintain the maximum effectiveness of the fastening process. Monitoring of OK signals ensures that the correct tightening torque and/or revolutions (screw depth), are reached at each fastening point. It also ensures that correct screw counts are achieved, even in variable count situations, to ensure that all individual fastening points are evaluated as OK.

This level of control over the fastening process provides a cost effective and efficient method of meeting modern production assembly targets. Signal box monitoring is also available on the Weber stationary screw spindle units (models SA03/10/30), which incorporate automatic feed.

These products complement a wide range of screw and nut driving, riveting and insertion equipment from the company which is used throughout industry.

The HSD screwdriver features automatic feed of screws and setscrews, and can accommodate a fixed protruding screw. Operation starts by positioning the gun unit, and pressing the trigger bar advances the screwdriver bit without rotation and locates with the screwhead. The locking clutch then engages and the combined screwdriver/screw start to turn until the pre-determined torque is attained. When the trigger bar is released, the screwdriver retracts ready to accept another automatically loaded screw.

Other hand screwdriver units also available from Weber include the HSK (for top heavy screws), the HSV (for restricted screw positions), the HSF (for fixed protruding screws) and the HSM (for nut driving, including flanged-nut variations).
Profiled feed tubes shaped to fit the fixing products are also used by Weber to ensure that misfeeds are eliminated at the point of assembly.

All models can be supplied with a range of optional accessories, many designed to ensure ease of use and minimise the incidence of RSI (repetitive strain injury). These include a pistol grip for horizontal screws, a swivel holder together with mountings for weight compensation giving fatigue-free operation. A stall detector can also be fitted to identify defective, slipping or even missing screws.

New Generation of Lift-Slide Fittings from GU

GU has launched a new range of lift-slide fittings that provides super light operation, smoother running and greater security.

Suitable for timber, PVC and aluminium doors, the range features new lift-slide runner and gearing developed exclusively by GU. The gearing provides very easy operation while the bearings deliver even smoother running. As a result, 30% less force is required to operate the door, allowing fabricators to offer the benefits of lift-slide products to even more applications.

Due to their compact construction and robust fittings, lift-slide doors generally provide high protection against burglary. This level of security can be enhanced by the use of GU components such as an anti-lift device in the sash, lockable handle's, bottom keeper and locking bolts for slit ventilation.

All the fittings are available in GU's ferGUard silver finish for advanced corrosion protection. They are complemented by well designed stainless steel handles in Dirigent or Rondo style, plus a wide range of handles in standard colours to suit all applications. Special handles are also available for 'barrier free living' enabling operation of sliding doors from the seated position.

Additional developments to the range include the HS-Master fitting. Combined with ATS drive technology, this product allows motorised operation of liftslide doors. It can be operated via a push button remote control or door handle, especially relevant when used for disabled access applications, and is suitable for a range of sash applications and weights up to 250kg.

GU has also introduced the GU-thermostep for timber and PVC lift-slide and lift-tilt doors. The thermostep provides a thermal break at the tubular threshold, which considerably reduces the heat flow at the bottom of the glazed door. It also prevents the formation of condensation, protects the bottom of the door from moisture and preserves the building structure.

Quality Glazing Guaranteed with SEAC’s New Range of Packers

Fastener specialist SEAC Ltd has launched a new and improved range of glazing packers. Designed to suit all window profiles, they have an integrated flat and bridge packer function, meaning installers need only stock one variant and can therefore be confident they are fitting an appropriate packer. As bridge packers are traditionally more expensive than flat packers, SEAC’s new integrated packers also save installers money.

Bridge packers are essential in window profiles which do not have built-in channels to aid drainage and prevent condensation build up. Although some installers may be tempted to use flat packers to save money, they are an inappropriate choice for such profiles and will inevitably lead to expensive remedial work at a later stage.

All glazing accessories are moulded using prime grade materials that are resistant to deterioration and unaffected by sealants. The packers guarantee glass alignment and squareness as well as maintaining the correct weight distribution.

The packers are colour coded and generally have a standard length of 100mm. They are available in widths varying from 20mm to 32mm. Each comes in thicknesses ranging from 1mm to 6mm. The two most popular widths, 24mm and 28mm, are available in mixed bags containing a variety of thicknesses. If required, unusual dimensions are also available.

Selecting the correct products and ensuring they are properly installed is crucial in preventing the need for expensive remedial call-backs. To assist with installation technique, SEAC has included a ‘Glazing Guide’ on its website. For more information please visit http://www.seac.uk.com.

GTI Takes a Bow with New AFV370

GTI Kombimatec has launched the AFV370 Automatic Electronic Arch End Milling Machine to complement its new PBM1 Profile Bending System. The AFV370 is specifically designed for precision end milling of transoms in bow, arch and round windows fabricated from either aluminium or PVC profile.

Easy to set up and adjust, the Kombimatec AFV370 has three modes of operation, including straight, convex and concave end milling, to suit all shaping requirements.

The machine also benefits from a quick-change cutter facility that requires no special tools, to maintain optimum productivity on the factory floor. In addition, end milling speed is fully adjustable to ensure the optimum travel of cutters across the profile ends.

Operators can be up and running with the minimum of training courtesy of the AFV370’s intelligent computer unit, which guides the user according to the size required and the angle at which to prepare the transom for end milling. This information is calculated automatically during the setup phase, and the computer prompts the operator at each stage of the setup and working cycle to avoid errors.

The machine also comes equipped with an automatic hinging stop and measuring system to help line up the depth of the transom. The machine’s alphanumeric keyboard and user-friendly LCD display also ensure that the new AFV370 is quick and simple to operate.

In addition to a high performance specification, GTI Kombimatec has designed the AFV370 with a special fully interlocking guard to ensure operator safety at all times during use.

Other features of the new Kombimatec AF370 include pneumatic clamping, mist spray device and air filter. The machine is supplied as standard with a three-phase motor. Options available on request include a single-phase model and cutter block spindle.

GTI Kombimatec’s recently introduced PBM1 Profile Bending System provides fabricators with all the apparatus they need to create bow, arch and round windows, with no special facilities required. Ian Wheatley, GTI Kombimatec’s Sales Director, comments: ‘More and more fabricators are considering bringing bending in-house to add value to their service offering and reduce costs. Our low entry cost PBM1 System can help them take that step, and with complementary machines like the new AFV370, we’re making precision profile bending faster and even easier.’

Conservatory Coupling Made Easy with Duraflex

Duraflex has launched a new Conservatory Sidewall and Bay Coupling System to make fabricating and installing conservatories faster and easier. The system is designed for use with both the Duraflex 65mm and 70mm PVC-U Suites, and is available in Duraflex’s full range of finishes of White, Golden Oak, Rosewood and Mahogany for a completely co-ordinated look.

The new system consists of a range of Joint Options, including 15mm and 30mm In Line Couplers and 90, 120, 135 and 150 degree Angles. These enable coupling of window frames through external fixings, so there’s no need to remove the glass to facilitate through frame drilling. The conservatory can, therefore, be assembled fully glazed, saving valuable installation time and effort, and reducing the risk of costly breakages. A full range of bespoke stainless steel brackets is available for fixing of couplers to the cill.

Duraflex’s Conservatory Sidewall and Bay Coupling System is designed with fully featured cappings for an aesthetically pleasing finish that matches existing Duraflex Featured Suite and ancillary sections. A range of Jacking Pole options is also available to provide high load bearing support for larger conservatories and bays.

Sidewalls can be fabricated in ‘modules’, as opposed to one large frame. These smaller sized modules are much easier to handle in the factory and more convenient to transport. They can then be coupled on site using the appropriate Duraflex Jointing Option.

Commenting on this latest addition to the Duraflex range, Ray McGrady, Technical Director, says: ‘Conservatories are still a growing market within the industry and as such have become an increasingly profitable product line for many of our customers. This new development will deliver significant timesaving benefits for both manufacturers and installers of conservatories, and help boost productivity in the factory as well as on site.’

Speedy Simplicity!

Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems, the supplier of PVC/aluminium conservatory roof systems, has designed and launched its new ridge connector. ‘The single component, manufactured from nylon for strength and rigidity, significantly increases efficiency as the one element replaces a number of parts and stages of traditional ridge assembly.’ says the company.

The component incorporates ridge clip, internal fascia cladding bracket and external ridge cap bracket, reducing component parts by 75% and allowing assembly in minutes.

The ridge connector is the latest in a line of developments by Aztec, in conjunction with the new processing suite which aims to cut roof fabrication time by up to 50% and increase accuracy and consistent quality.

Colin Bennett, Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems managing director, observes, ‘We are executing a major programme of refinement of the system, to make it even more versatile. Central to our ethos is the need to make life as simple as possible for our fabricators, by minimising the number of components they need to build a roof.

‘The new connector replaces other components and reduces the parts list! This reduces stockholding, and therefore capital tied up in it, and speeds up roof fabrication as only one component is used where previously several were needed.’

Titon Simplifies Commercial Locking Handle Supply

The Commercial Department of window fittings expert Titon has simplified the ordering and stocking of locking handles in the aluminium sector with the introduction of its new multi-functional locking handle for Sobinco Tilt and Turn systems. In the past, aluminium window manufacturers needed to order non-locking handles, or a choice of locking handles, either locking or tilt lock. The new multi-locking handle from Titon will allow three options on the window; completely unlocked, fully locked or locked but with the tilt facility still operational. The new handle can be used in all the different desired operational modes, simply by turning the key to the specified position to determine each setting.

Non-locking handles are still available, but from now, window manufacturers need only order the one multi-locking handle, knowing that it will be suitable for all applications. This will simplify stocking levels for both Titon and its customers, and will also help to reduce lead times and ensure faster delivery. This will be an added advantage when working on a variety of projects at one time, as all Tilt and Turn windows can be fitted with the same handle.
