Bohle Launches Portable Drill Station

Bohle has developed its own portable drill station for diamond drills. The highly versatile Pico Drill 100 can be used either on site or in the workshop.

Its powerful drive with continuously variable speed control, from 500 to 1700 rpm, allows operators to adjust drill speed to suit both smaller or larger drill holes, up to a maximum depth of 20mm.

Integrated suction holders are included as standard and give the machine extra grip on the glass.

Bohle’s Pico Drill 100 is available in a standard version, and with a point laser (100L), which facilitates enhanced alignment of the machine to the glass.

The 100L model can also be supplied with coolant collecting trays and stopper rail systems, which enable the setting up of an efficient drill station in a workshop, either on a temporary or permanent basis.

Gary Dean, Managing Director of Bohle UK comments: ‘Launched at Glasstec 2004 alongside a number of new drilling machines, the Pico Drill 100 is already proving a popular addition to our own manufactured machinery range.’

It is available direct from Bohle UK’s dedicated machinery sales and support division based in Manchester.

Further information on the Pico Drill 100 or any of the products in Bohle’s machinery range is available by calling freephone 0800 61 61 51, or visiting the company’s website at http://www.bohle.ltd.uk.

New Ecoline Prepping Centre from Stuga

Stuga has just launched a new version of the Ecoline prepping centre. The Ecoline-S is based on the popular Ecoline-1 prepping centre but has the addition of laser measuring to increase accuracy, reliability and output. The Ecoline-S is able to prep around six hundred internally glazed windows per week including drainage, pressure equalisation, espag/shootbolts, trickle vents and all door preps.

The Ecoline-VY is able to do everything the Ecoline-S can do with the addition of ‘V’ and ‘Y’ notching. This version has a lower output due to the extra work involved.

Both the Ecoline-S and the Ecoline-VY are able to work with any form of cutting machine including double mitre saws and saw centres.

The Ecoline machines utilise barcode technology to ensure the minimum of operator skill and risk. The operator simply scans the barcoded label on the cut piece, much like a supermarket check-out, and then places the component on the infeed from where the machine takes over and completes all processes. There is no need for complicated tooling or tool changes as the Ecoline utilises Stuga’s proven rotary tooling system that is both highly reliable and flexible. The finished components are automatically returned back to the operator.

The Ecoline has been installed in over thirty fabricators throughout the country and is therefore well proven in the uPVC window and door market. The machine is sometimes used on high volume door lines at larger fabricators to automatically produce all door preps.

New Finishes for Schüco Corona Window and Door System

Fabricators using Schüco’s Corona PVC-U window and door system can now offer their customers an even wider choice of finishes thanks to the company’s introduction of eight new laminated foil options.

The new foils faithfully replicate the look of aluminium and are therefore suitable for contracts such as housing association projects and commercial developments, where costs need to be strictly controlled. In this context, the fact that short production runs can be accommodated without attracting a heavy surcharge is also an important selling point.

The foils – in brown and several shades of grey - are the latest additions to a range that already includes over 20 different options including three realistic woodgrain effects – Mahogany, Piedmont and Golden Oak - and a wide variety of colours in both smooth and textured finishes.

Applied to white or brown base coloured profiles, the foil finish can be securely bonded to either the inner or the outer faces of the PVC-U section or to both. Like the Corona window and door system itself, all Schüco’s decorative foils are manufactured to the most exacting standards and are not only visually appealing, but also extremely durable.

Indigo Products Upgrades Hardware

Indigo Products has upgraded its range of hardware and door furniture in order to offer its customers more choice and improved security.

The company has introduced a selection of stylish new door handles that are available in four colour options. They feature a durable mirror-like chrome finish and are fully tested to BS7412.

A new security flag hinge has also been introduced; it offers installers a high performance product that makes doors easier and faster to install while allowing full adjustability even after the door is fitted.

Completing the new range is a multipoint doorlock. Designed for both residential and local authority/new build applications, the lock offers the highest levels of security and ease of operation for the end user.

Dave Stearman, Indigo's National Sales Manager commented: ‘this new range of door hardware reinforces the company's commitment to provide our customers with the latest high specification products. We now offer more choice, better security and easier installation.’

May The Force Be With You

Independent hardware distributor, Wagner, has added the 2GBA Door Defender door security device to its product portfolio.

Designed to combat crime committed by bogus callers, the powerful spring within the sash part uses any force used when trying to shoulder-barge or kick the door open to propel the door closed in the face of the would-be intruder.

A swinging arm, attached to a bracket fixed to the wall adjacent to the door, allows enough movement of the sash for the householder to check a caller’s identification, but will work with the spring to slam the door closed should forced entry be attempted.

Once identification has been verified, the arm is disconnected and clipped to the wall, and the door can be opened fully to allow access.

Door Defender 2GBA is available in brass and bright chrome finishes and is available now from stock.

Sash UK Adds Extra Dates to Accommodate Demand for New Product Launch

Yorkshire based window, door and conservatory manufacturer Sash UK Ltd has added PVCu decking and fencing to its Fitrite stable of products. More than 300 people have already expressed an interest following various pre-launch marketing activities and additional open days have had to be added to accommodate the high demand for places.

Supplied direct from Veka in the U.S., the new PVCu decking and fencing will be sold under Sash’s exclusive Fitritedecking and Fitritefencing brand. The new range is set to be a breakthrough product into what is a relatively untouched market, which holds massive potential. In-depth research has been carried out and based on these findings a comprehensive marketing package has been produced by Sash. This is to assist the independent installer to better target their customers, making the Fitritedecking and Fitritefencing proposition all the more difficult to resist.

‘Sash UK is offering a unique opportunity to break into a new market area that is growing rapidly. Although similar products have made an appearance over the years they have not been of the same quality nor have they been marketed correctly. We have ensured that Sash UK can supply the distributor with all the resources they need, taking away most of the possible risk usually associated with embarking on a new business venture,’said Stephen Morrell, Joint Managing Director at Sash.

Sash’s intention is for just a few carefully selected installers to be chosen as distributors to ensure product and marketing standards are maintained. At the Open Day Sash will meet with interested businesses, share its findings about the product potential, suggest how to successfully break into the market and provide the resources to do it. Guest speaker Kevin Seiling, President at Veka innovations in the U.S. is also flying in to talk about the success that the product has enjoyed in the U.S., where it is already well established.

Hailed as the low maintenance alternative to timber products, Fitritedecking and Fitritefencing offers homeowners a luxury addition to their property, allowing them to make the most of their outdoor living space. But what makes the new range really stand out from the rest is a unique system, devised by Sash, to support the installations that will revolutionise the market. Many installers of similar products typically use timber joists. The exclusive Sash system, made from galvanised steel, offers a truly maintenance free solution further adding to the benefits of choosing PVCu over timber.

To book a place at one of the open days taking place throughout the week commencing 21st March, call 01226 715619 and ask for Tim Peters.

Mila’s Dynamic Duo

The latest addition to Mila’s Evolution range of high specification products is the Evolution Duo Cam espagnolette. This high security espagnolette system features twin mushroom cams at each locking point instead of the traditional one. When the smooth, reverse action gearbox is operated the cams travel simultaneously into their double entry striker. This provides exceptional levels of security and any attempt to force one cam from its closed position only forces its twin further into the striker.

The duo cam feature, coupled with a new design of mushroom cam and additional screw fixings allows the Evolution Duo Cam to match the security performance of shoobolt systems but at a fraction of the cost. Indeed further savings can be gained during fabrication due to its speed of manufacture when compared with shootbolts.

The Evolution Duo Cam is available in both 20mm and 22mm backsets, with either 8mm or 9.5mm cams and will suit applications from 300mm to 1300mm. Both the espagnolettes and their strikers are finished in a Chromium VI free, silver coating providing over 700 hours corrosion resistance.

Commenting on the launch, Mila’s sales director Dave Horton said ‘The Evolution Duo Cam is an important addition to our range, it allows our customers to provide a real alternative to espags or shootbolts and to demonstrate practical USP’s over both’.

Bohle Introduces ‘Europe’ Shower Door Hinges

A bathroom is a very personal area where one wants to feel comfortable and be able to relax. Therefore, the demands regarding design and equipment as well as functionality are especially high. An all-glass shower enclosure lends transparency and elegance to a bathroom. Practical aspects of planning, installation and maintenance are very important, because diverse application possibilities, easy mounting, precise and long-lasting setting of zero position as well as low-maintenance cleaning and care are major requirements. Bohle AG has been a reliable trade partner for shower door fittings for many years. With ‘Europe’, Bohle is introducing to the market the first series of shower door hinges originating from Bohle's own development and production.

The new ‘Europe’ shower door hinges are intended for one-sided wall mounting and glass-glass construction (180° alignment) and accommodate glass thicknesses up to 10 mm. They are suitable for glass shower doors up to 100 cm wide (with glass thickness of 8 mm). You can choose from three different finishes: shiny chrome plated, matt chrome plated or stainless steel look. The narrow gap in the swinging axle of the door means less water can escape. Clamps as well as corner connectors (glass-wall 90°, glass-glass 90°) are available in the same finishes as ‘Europe’ and fit nicely into the total design.

Especially worth mentioning is the technology for setting the zero position, for which Bohle has a patent pending. A familiar and annoying problem when setting zero positions is the fact that, after being in use for a while, the shower door settles. Many conventional shower door hinges do not offer an acceptable solution to this problem: once the zero position has been adjusted and set, it no longer can be re-adjusted. Bohle took on this problem and can now present an elegant and easy-to-use solution. With the new Bohle ‘Europe’ shower door hinges, the zero position can be adjusted individually by ±5° and can easily be re-set at any time, even after prolonged use. After setting the zero position, matching-coloured caps cover all screws neatly and securely. Inserts made of an elastic, translucent, wear-resistant synthetic material rest slip-free in a groove of the hinge. The ‘Europe’ shower door hinge is distinguished not only from a practical point of view in terms of function and user-friendliness, but also by its design and elegance.

Bohle is a manufacturer and supplier of tools, machines and supplies for the glass processing trade and industry. The trademarks SILBERSCHNITT and VERIBOR are known worldwide. Also produced by Bohle are a variety of machines for professional grinding, drilling, sawing, sandblasting and fusing of glass as well as vacuum lifting systems. A comprehensive range of products for picture framing and art galleries is a further business sector of the company. In addition, Bohle has one of the largest coloured glass warehouses in Europe.

Everwhite Launches a new 30mm D Section

Everwhite Plastics Ltd has added a new 30mm D section to its product range. ‘The new D section is 5mm wider than the standard,’ comments Vince Richardson, Technical Director of Everwhite.

‘It’s the attention to detail that makes an installation look professional. The new 30mm D section is designed to cover up larger gaps without having to use larger section architrave. The simplicity of styling leaves a neater finish. We constantly look at developing our product range to make it as easy as possible for our stockists to sell.’

Just Glaze the Sash, Jack

Hardware distributor, Wagner, has announced the addition to its range of the SASH-JACK toe and heel device for glazing PVCu, aluminium and timber doors and windows.

SASH-JACK consists of a main body (there are 3 designs available, dependent on where the sealed unit/panel sits in relation to the eurogroove), a threaded bar with Allen drive, a corner packer and clip.

The device, when fitted to the top handle side of the door, allows the door to be quickly and easily ‘toed and heeled’ by winding down the threaded bar against the packer on the sealed unit. This ‘Jacks’ the ‘Sash’ into square.

A major advantage for the installer is a reduction in call-outs where dislodged glazing packers cause the sash to come out of square. These call outs also carry the risk of damaging the glazing beads when they are being removed. In the unlikely event of a door fitted with SASH-JACK coming out of square, this is rectified without removing the beads.

Wagner states that ‘a door that can be quickly toed and heeled, is a door that can be fitted quickly and accurately, thus saving the installer time on site.

‘In cases where the sealed unit needs replacing, less time is wasted chopping out packers that have been fixed into place with silicone.’

The Future is Here - The Era has Dawned

The final pieces are now in place to complete the Newdawn Newera S150 system. Launched at last years Glassex show, the company says that the new roofing system has taken the market by storm over the last 12 months with over 90% of Newdawn’s existing customers and all of its newly recruited fabricators adopting the system.

Four new additions complete the range and make it even more adaptable and able to handle those complex roofs where a fully developed system is required that allows ‘P’-shapes, T- shapes and gazebos to be built from standard items - a new full width wall bar using the standard rafter cap but incorporating an aluminium flashing upstand for ease of installation, a new universal valley providing fast independent rafter fixing and continuous sealing with a moulded undercladding and a new multipurpose wallplate incorporating all the Newera ridge developments to glaze polycarbonate up to 35mm thick and provide faster fabrication times and simple on site installation.

To meet the increasing demand from architects who specify Newdawn Cervoglass the company has added a glass jointing muntin bar to the range. This enables the glass units to span even greater lengths and meet the demands from designers who are increasingly turning to Newdawn for the larger more prestigious projects where the quality and aesthetic appeal of a full aluminium clad glass roof are required.

‘Available in warm and high (blue) white, golden oak, mahogany, rosewood and any RAL colour in aluminium the picture is now clear the future is indeed bright for the ever growing number of Newdawn fabricators.’ says the company.

The Alternative is Versatile

The recent introduction of Celsius Performance Glass into the company's product portfolio means it is available to customers purchasing through both the Versatile Roof System Division and Versatile Global Division.

With its special coating, Celsius reflects heat back into the property, while deflecting excessive solar heat away. This results in a combination of improved thermal insulation with reduced cold spots and condensation. Celsius also reduces unwanted glare, increases sound insulation during rainfall and ensures minimal maintenance by enabling water to run off the glass, taking dirt and grime with it. ‘Celsius fits in flawlessly with our product philosophy’ says Kevin Barnard, managing director. ‘Its amazing heat reflection qualities can help to reduce heating bills and ultimately provide a more comfortable conservatory environment all year round - that's certainly adding value.’

Since its inception in the 1980s, Versatile has focussed on the most important requirements of the installer. ‘Ease of construction without compromise to structural stability and aesthetics has to be the prime consideration’ continues Kevin, ‘but with growth of the conservatory market and increased competition, there is a greater need for differentiation and solutions which fulfil consumer aspirations and give peace of mind. These no longer apply simply to the finished appearance, but include economic and environmental considerations.’

It is these considerations that Kevin attributes to the growing appeal of the company's Versatile Roof System. ‘Certification as an Approved Conservatory Roof System by Network Veka certainly helps to provide peace of mind, but for those seeking a truly, durable, lifetime product, the pultruded GRP ring beam gutter always seems to create a big impression. It offers excellent physical and mechanical properties and low thermal conductivity with greater insulation than ‘traditional’ roof system materials, while its high dimensional stability means minimal expansion and contraction with temperature changes and heat loading.

‘Comparatively priced with thermally broken aluminium, GRP provides a U Value similar to that of timber, is faster to work with than PVCu and is so strong it does not require reinforcement. In addition, the design allows the ring beam to act as an integral gutter, which not only saves time and cost, but adds to the exceptional appearance of the finished product. Invaluable in its adaptability to allow construction in awkward applications, such as properties with low eaves, or the ability to incorporate a chimneybreast, the beam is available in a choice of attractive ogee, or dentil designs and is supplied in sections, for applications where access is restricted to site.’

Customers of Versatile Limited also value the service offered by the company, achieved through the combination of experienced staff and a bespoke operating system which offers on line ordering. The advanced system provides numbered and sequenced drawings, in a true 3D perspective, allowing the most complex design to be constructed with a minimum of effort, yet the greatest accuracy.

‘From a fully prepped kit, through to a complete conservatory package, the same diverse choice of styles, decorative options and colour alternatives are available, together with technical expertise and fast and efficient service’ concludes Kevin.
