KAT
UK Launches New KAT Zendow Patio Door
KAT
UK,
the supplier of patio doors and sliding sash windows has announced the
exclusive launch of the KAT Zendow patio door system.
The KAT Zendow patio door exactly matches the new Status Zendow window
profile. The 45 current Zendow window fabricators now have the complete
window and door solution.
The KAT Zendow patio door will be enhanced by original KAT UK features
such as the stainless steel six point locking mechanism, optional top
and bottom shootbolts, exclusive handle design, threshold and trims.
Members of the KAT team spent time in Belgium developing the new patio
door with the design department of Deceuninck Status to ensure that the
finished product matched current market needs.
The new Zendow patio was thoroughly tested prior to its launch on 1st
September 2005. Prior to this, in May 2005, KAT UK imported a Zendow patio
from the continent, added KAT UK's features then mounted it on a van and
presented the patio to its customer base.
KAT UK's managing director, David Richards said: The new Zendow
patio was very well received with some customers wanting to place an order
the day they were notified that KAT would be fabricating a Zendow patio.
We're very confident that it will be a popular choice among fabricators,
specifiers and installers.

Pro
Display - UK Based Screen Manufacturer Launches LCD Glass and LCD
Film into the Architectural Glass Market
LCD Glass (10.5mm laminate) from Pro Display
is a new product which the company says will transform the world of visual
display and advertising. Not only can this LCD glass be used for privacy
and security, but this special LCD polymer has been developed as a high
definition projection screen and should not be confused with standard
privacy glass products. This special glass laminate consists of a liquid
crystal polymer which changes its visual appearance when an electrical
current is activated. A simple ON / OFF mode transforms the glass from
being transparent (clear) to translucent (opaque) - When the glass is
in its opaque or frosted state, images can be projected onto the glass
to create a high definition digital video / presentation screen (up to
UXGA resolution) Suitable for advertising, presentations and home cinema
applications. Plasma quality images projected onto glass.

LCD Film (370 microns) - this film technology can
be applied to existing glass.
Pro
Display has also developed a new LCD Film which can be applied to
any existing glass or Plexiglas. The LCD Film offers greater flexibility
within the industry; installers can apply the LCD technology in areas
where it is difficult to replace the glass. This special film consists
of a liquid crystal polymer which can change its visual appearance when
an electrical current is activated. The edge of the film has an electrical
contact strip which transforms the film from clear (transparent) to frosted
(translucent) using a simple ON/OFF switch. When the film is in its translucent
or frosted state images can be projected onto the glass creating a high
definition digital display screen (up to UXGA resolution). Other applications
for the LCD Film include privacy and security. Pro Display is actively
seeking dealers within the glass industry to market the companys
LCD products.

Even
More Plus Points to Solaglas New Conservatory Roof Unit Range
SGG
CLIMAPLUS® COMFORT+ conservatory roof double glazed units are the
first on the market to incorporate SGG BIOCLEAN® to give the dual
action self-cleaning function in combination with advanced solar control
performance (solar factor of only 0.38) and advanced thermal insulation
(centre-pane U-value of 1.1W/m2.K).
'The beauty of the SGG BIOCLEAN® pyrolitic coating is that it will
last the lifetime of the glass itself', says Kathryn Dalgleish, Marketing
Manager of Solaglas MSN. 'It does not wear off or diminish in performance,
like alternative spray on easy-clean coatings. This means
that its photocatalytic properties continue to break down dirt and the
hydrophilic action of the glass causes rain water to wash the dirt away,
year after year after year...'.
Thanks to the unique combination of high performance glass coatings, which
gives the unit an attractive blue tint, the SGG CLIMAPLUS® COMFORT+
range offers more benefits than ever before. With three products in the
range: COMFORT+, COMFORT+ PROTECT and COMFORT+ SILENCE, there is a solution
to meet even the most demanding homeowners needs (see table 1).

In
order to assist sales to both commercial and domestic buyers a suite of
literature is readily available to Solaglas customers, in addition to
product samples and heat reflection demonstration units for showroom use.

New
i3 System for Effective Perimeter Sealing
The TechSpec Division of illbruck Sealant Systems
UK Ltd. has introduced a three level perimeter sealing system
that comes with a 10-year performance guarantee.
The new i3 Window Sealant System is designed to meet the latest building
regulations dealing with weather resistance, air tightness and energy efficiency
and provides a state of the art universal perimeter sealing solution for
all window and conservatory installations.
The system comes with an insurance-backed guarantee covering effective joint
sealing, air and water tight performance over a 10 year period.
By sealing at 3 levels of the installation (external, internal and intermediate)
the i3 system eliminates the risk of condensation or damp penetration, both
of which can lead to the growth or mould or fungi and create an unhealthy
living environment. This is achieved by the systems dual ability to
prohibit cold air and weather from penetrating the joint externally while
allowing any warm internal air to escape into the external atmosphere.
The user can create their own sealing solution to meet specific requirements
through the choice of three of eight available components within the system.
Externally, a flexible foam sealant strip or specialist foil can be used
to provide the necessary weather protection and cope with any joint movement,
while still allowing any internal vapour to escape to the external atmosphere.
On the inside, an internal window foil, butyl tape or low modulus silicone
can be used to successfully separate the internal environment from outside
conditions. Between the two, an intermediate or insulation level window
foam gap filler provides thermal and soundproofing properties.
By selecting appropriate product combinations for different situations,
the i3 system provides an externally weatherproof system, which also prohibits
warm, internal air penetrating the joint and forming condensation.
Independently tested under rigorous conditions by the Institute for Window
Technology in Germany, the new i3 system meets the 600Pa driving rain tightness
demands of DIN EN 1027 and DIN 18542. It also provides an airtight seal
to UK Building Regulations Part L (Part J for Scotland) and DIN 4108-7.

New
Schüco Door has a 60 Minute Fire Resistance Rating
New from Schüco International is
Firestop II EI 60, an aluminium-frame fire door conforming to BS EN 1634-1:
2000, with a fire-resistance integrity and insulation rating of 60 minutes,
the maximum standard normally required in the UK. An alternative version
offering a60-minute fire-resistance integrity only rating is also available.
Based
on Schücos tried and tested Firestop II system, it uses profiles,
fittings and accessories which are largely identical. Since it also shares
common components with the Schüco Royal S65 window and door system,
the need for extra storage space is kept to the minimum and fabrication
and installation are quick and easy.
It is available as a single leaf door (up to 1400 mm x 2491 mm) or in a
double leaf format (up to 2637 mm x 2491 mm). It has a multi-functional
groove and an innovative quick-fit-hinge for fast clamped fixing
of locks and security bolts. It is suitable for use as an emergency exit
door and can be fitted with electronic locking for controlled access purposes.
The door can be glazed with a range of well-known fire-resistant glasses
and its aluminium frame is thermally broken to ensure efficient insulation
in everyday use. Its construction incorporates fireboard to cool the frame
and heat-reactive intumescent strips to provide a secure seal in the event
of a fire.
Narrow barrel hinges (in aluminium or stainless steel) and an optional concealed
top door closer add aesthetic appeal. Matching EI 60 fixed glazed wall units
come in a variety of sizes up to a maximum height of 4000 mm.
The Firestop II EI 60 system has been subjected to a pan-European testing
procedure instigated by Schüco. The way in which fire protection agencies
from the UK, Scandinavia, France, the Benelux countries, Austria, Switzerland,
Poland and the Czech Republic have all co-operated on the project is being
seen as a model for future industry co-operation.

Häfele
Modular Entrance Door Pull Handle System
Häfele
has announced the launch of a German made grade 304 Stainless Steel Modular
Pull Handle System. The modular system allows door manufacturers the opportunity
to fabricate on site pull handle sizes to their clients requirements.
By using pre-fabricated modules, the pull handle can easily be assembled
and fastened. The effect is a stable and long lasting full height entrance
pull handle in satin stainless steel finish feature which can be mounted
as bolt through or back to back.
The benefits of the modular system, as well as being 304 grade for external
applications, offers many design opportunities in a choice of two diameters
of stainless tube, in 35mm or 40mm diameter. The tube is available in
2 or 3 mtr modules and is cut to suit desired length on site; errors in
cutting are compensated upto 5mm as cut edges are concealed within the
end supports. A quick and easy assembly is the systems main feature,
while providing freedom of design for each doorset.
The length of pull handles can be upto 2000mm ; beyond this by the use
of mid-point supports extra long lengths can be achieved. After sawing
the tube, it is attached into the end support clamping system in the head
of the support and then fixed complete by tightening the clamping screw.
This clamping system negates the need for welding and offers a high level
of stability for most applications. A choice of offset 45Æ end supports
are available to allow easy access to door locking cylinders and clearance
for key or cardswipe entry.
The system is rounded of with a choice of four decorative end-caps which
are screwed onto the end supports with locknuts and then tightened with
a wrench or made permanent with a suitable adhesive. The system thus allows
multiple applications with very few respective modular parts. The fixing
methods include simple bolt through with a stainless cap on the reverse;
back to back version for timber and even a glass door fixings pack offering
the option to mount onto frameless glass doors 10-12mm thick.

Profile
22's Fully Sculptured FS70 Suite
Profile
22
says that its new FS70 sculptured profile system successfully combines
the advantages of PVC-U windows with the aesthetics of traditional timber
products. The new 70mm suite provides many benefits including low maintenance
and good thermal performance, yet looks like wood both up close and from
a distance giving it kerb appeal.
Available in white and a choice of two wood grain finishes, or with wood
grain on the external face with white internally, FS70 is hard to distinguish
from timber. The new profile also benefits from an integral low line high
performance gasket, which maximises the glass area while at the same time
giving an improved weather seal.
Energy efficiency ratings are further enhanced by the new system which
incorporates not three but four thermal break chambers in its design,
comfortably exceeding Government Building Regulations.
An extension to the comprehensive Profile 22 product range, FS70 can be
specified with Safeware hardware for optimum security and peace of mind.
The profile itself also holds security Kitemarks from the BSI and the
police-approved Secured by Design scheme.

Wendlands
Styal Select Offers Structural and Regional Accuracy with Postcode
Database
Wendland
says that its Styal Select roofing design and survey software is
now the only system of its kind on the market to offer regional wind speeds
and snow loading data as part of its automatic calculations. All customers
need do is input the initial letters of the postcode area where the conservatory
is to be built and the package accesses data displays to calculate glazing,
rafter and tie bar options appropriate to both design and geographical
area.
Styal Select has already been praised highly by Wendland customers
for its easy-to-use qualities and accuracy. As a relatively small piece
of software that runs as a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel, it can be
carried to site using a basic laptop and provides fast, simple calculations
to ensure that accurate, realistic and price-sensitive quotations can
be given from the outset. This avoids common misunderstandings regarding
issues such as tie bars, resulting in far fewer callbacks.
The software can easily be used by everyone from sales staff to site surveyors.
Customers simply input initial figures, measurements and style options
and Styal Select produces precise calculations as well as listing
glazing bar options, advice on the use of reinforcements and whether or
not tie bars are required. The addition of a postcode finder allows the
user to obtain even more precise information as to the correct roof specification
according to typical wind speed and snow loading data.

Stuga
Rotary Tooling System Really Comes into its Own
The
rotary tooling system that is standard on all Stuga
Flowline cutting and prepping centres and Ecoline stand-alone prepping
centres has proved to be invaluable to fabricators and profile companies
alike with the demise of some of the well known systems suppliers recently,
meaning that these large automatic machines have to be modified to handle
changeovers in a hurry.
All
cutting and prepping centres other than the Stuga ones have fixed tooling
heads and when it comes to profile changes these heads usually have to
be altered or sometimes even changed completely to allow for different
preps, different hardware and different profile geometry. The Stuga rotary
system is totally flexible with the possibility to stop any head at any
position within three hundred and sixty degrees around the profile. The
whole process is a simple software change followed by a rigorous testing
procedure.
Numerous Premier Profiles fabricators have benefited from the ease of
changeover and Schuco customers will shortly be benefiting the same way
with the first one being Orion Windows in Devon who Stuga are re-programming
to Profile 22.
As the market consolidates Stuga expects more rationalisation together
with companies swapping systems to get the best deal. The company is uniquely
placed to handle this with a team of three software specialists working
in the field at all times.
The Flowline and Ecoline centres can quite comfortably handle multiple
profile systems, which is extremely difficult to achieve with fixed head
machines and a number of fabricators are running two, three or four systems
now.
The rotary system Stuga uses is extremely reliable and has been used on
various machine tools by many manufacturers worldwide for over one hundred
years.

Groupco
Offers A Winning Finish with Fuhr
Independent
hardware distributor, Groupco, is
introducing the enhanced Fuhr Silver
Finish on all Fuhr components at no extra cost to its customers. The new
silver bichromate coating offers improved corrosion protection and is
double passivated to increase abrasion resistance.
Prior to being launched in the UK, Fuhrs advanced Silver Finish
has been tried and tested throughout other export markets for over two
years. It has passed 500 hours of salt spray testing without red rust
formation. In addition to technical benefits relating to durability, Fuhrs
new passivating process is also free from Chrome Six.
Groupco is phasing in the improved Silver Finish on Fuhrs current
range of hardware, including the popular Multisafe range of multipoint
locking systems.
Richard Duncan, Groupcos Managing Director comments: This
is much more than just a cosmetic change and offers a number of major
customer benefits, particularly in terms of durability, without a corresponding
price increase. And although the new Silver Finish will now be offered
as standard, fabricators and installers will still be able to order Fuhr
components with the existing yellow bichromate finish for repair and maintenance
purposes.
As part of the changeover to Fuhr Silver, Groupco is also adopting Fuhrs
part numbering system to enable easier product identification on packaging,
in stores and on orders/invoices. Further information, including the pages
in Groupcos catalogue that have been modified to reflect the change,
can be downloaded in PDF format from Groupcos website http://www.groupcoltd.co.uk.
