TruSeal Releases Second Product in New Insulating Glass Sealant Family

TruSeal Technologies, Inc., flexible spacer systems for insulating glass (IG) specialist, has introduced the second product in its new family of hot-melt butyl and polyisobutylene (PIB) IG sealants. Named EdgeTherm™, the new product family features high-performance, gun grade IG sealants for manufacturing flexibility.

The second rollout in the EdgeTherm line is PIB-H1, a high viscosity, high strength, 100 percent solids sealant system. The product is based on a PIB polymer formulated to impart reinforcement, resist degradation from ultraviolet light and provide low moisture permeability. With its high viscosity formula, PIB-H1 resists shearing in large, heavy lights of glass and retains flexibility through a wide temperature range to compensate for thermal movement of IG units.

EdgeTherm PIB-H1 is used as the primary seal on IG units while providing the main moisture vapour seal between the glass and metal spacer. It must be used with a secondary seal designed to provide structural strength. The company says that the product's properties provide a low moisture vapour transmission rate, consistent quality and good adhesion to glass and metal through a wide temperature range. PIB-H1 also provides easy application and handling of coated spacer bars and resists degradation from ultraviolet light and oxidation.

Available in black, EdgeTherm PIB-H1 is provided in bulk for application by various type extruders.

Get Round to it!

The potential to build conservatory roofs 'out ofline' is being explored with the development of a new prototype roofing system.

Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems, the UK PVC/aluminium roof system manufacturer, has developed a dome option to complement its Linear core system.

Initial tests indicate the new version can create domed roofs up to 4m diameter, with arc radius depending on the chosen glazing material. Aztec will supply bar length already bent to shape, for glazing to be installed (16mm multi-wall polycarbonate can be cold bent on site, up to 2.7m bend radius on sheet 1700mm wide).

Colin Bennett, Aztec managing director, elaborates, 'Conservatories, particularly domestic or small commercial, in the UK are inevitably linear in structure. We see domes, but they are mainly architectural features in commercial environments.

'Physically there is no reason why we have to build linear conservatories; the commercial building market is increasingly using domes to make an architectural or aesthetic statement with a building. Why not give the smaller commercial and leisure, and domestic, projects the choice to be different?

'Fabricators can charge a premium for something that we believe will be no harder to install than our standard system, which itself is already acknowledged as being perhaps the easiest and quickest in the market to fabricate and build.'

Aztec claims the new dome will meet the same performance criteria ofits core range. The company says that standard system is designed in such a way to cut fabrication and build time by up to 30% on a standard roof, enabling a pro-rata increase in production capability and profit.

'The Aztec roof uses only 10 core components, and has evolved based on sound engineering principles, to create roof systems which offer greater spanning capability and greater flexibility in design and glazing options than competitive premium quality conservatory roofs, yet with fewer components. Unlike competitive systems, its unique ridge can accommodate all common formats of glazing - 16mm, 25, and 35mm.' adds Colin.

'lndependent tests showed the Aztec system will withstand the worst weather experienced in the UK, with wind loadings of up to 2000 pascals. Its design also means it is proven to be more weather resistant than alternative systems, with minimal risk of rain penetration.'

Fitter Friendly KAT Packs Ease Patio Door Installation & Glazing

Specialist patio door manufacturer KAT UK has developed glazing and installation kits to make the fitting of KAT patio doors quicker, easier and more cost effective. Additionally, the company says, the final fitting is more secure and sturdy.

Each Installation pack contains 16 KAT Rapier screws designed specifically for KAT patio doors. The screws, manufactured from C10 22 superior grade carbon steel, can be drilled directly into the structure of the building, eliminating the need for plastic sleeve anchors. KAT Rapier screws have also been designed with a 25° sharp point which means it can be sunk into all wood types without the need to pre-drill, and a 45
° deep single thread providing exceptional holding power and pull out resistance.

Zinc coated to withstand the 240 hours salt spray corrosion resistance test,
the KAT Rapier screws have also been treated with a dry wax seal to ensure a faster insertion and further corrosion resistance.

The KAT Glazing packs contain enough packers to glaze the sashes of the patio doors and to pack out the outer frame.

Sentinel Introduces New 'Narrowline' Door Style

In response to demand from a number of RSL and local authority customers, Sentinel Doors has added a new Series 750 'narrowline' composite door to its range. It is offered as a high-performance, low-maintenance alternative for accommodation such as 'Airey' houses, which have very narrow apertures.

The narrower Series 750 door has been achieved by reducing the size of the centre mullion, producing a door leaf of between 872mm and 915mm wide. The narrowline door is available in a smooth white finish to match the company's existing Series 100 and is available in three styles - 750, 751 and 753.

The Series 750 is manufactured using Duradev - a multi-layer co-extruded sheet material consisting of layers of standard ABS with a top layer of matt acrylic - and can be finished using Sentinel's Twinseal or Flushfit systems.

Commenting on the introduction of the new door style, Sentinel's sales and marketing director Phil Mundell says: 'The 750 has already produced a lot of interest from existing customers, with the first batch being delivered to Leicester City.'

With the use of a correct hardware specification the Series 750 door conforms to the standards required by Secure by Design and has been independently tested to PAS 023 and PAS 024.

Customers of patio door specialist Sliders UK can forget bump stops, thanks to the company’s latest development – a built-in patio door stop. ‘Door stops are best fitted on site once the patio is in position and level,’ explained Sliders’ director Mike Spain, ‘but the number of instances where stops and ancillaries are thrown away with the packaging made us investigate an alternative.’

The solution, part of a number of product enhancing initiatives according to Mike, provides ‘improved aesthetics and performance, one less finishing job for the installer, and a lot less hassle all round!’

Since Sliders UK was formed in November 2002 it says its high quality bevelled and fully featured products, aggressive pricing and reliable short lead times have proven a huge success with customers across the UK.

K2 Springs into Blue/White

Conservatory roof manufacturer, K2, is looking forward to a colourful Spring with the launch of blue/white products across the extensive product range.

The move is part of K2’s ongoing expansion programme and follows feedback from both fabricators and installers requesting the new additional colour. The blue/white product was launched on 1st March.

Comments Managing Director of K2, Sally Fielding: ‘We already had plans to step up our manufacturing output and raised the idea of adding a blue/white option with fabricators and installers. The response was so positive that we decided to implement these plans and were in a position to deliver product at the launch.

‘This is the latest product development initiative aimed at widening the choice available to our customers and enabling them to better address demand. K2’s in-house manufacturing capabilities will allow the company to produce blue/white extruded product that exactly matches corresponding blue/white crests, finials and other injection mouldings.’

Sally Fielding continues: ‘We were determined that we would not launch a blue/white product unless we could be certain that we could avoid the colour matching issues that have historically been a problem in the industry. Customer service and excellent product performance are fundamental to our approach to the market and we are delighted to be offering complete customer confidence with our new blue/white product.’
