GTI In-House Exhibition makes the Rounds

GTI recently held an in-house exhibition of its low entry cost PVC profile bending systems at the company's manufacturing plant in Luton.

26 companies visited GTI by appointment over the 4 day show which provided live demonstrations of profile cutting, bending, welding and cleaning using window sections provided by Eurocell Profiles.

A special showroom was constructed in the factory for the event. This permitted hands-on experience of profile bending for the visitors to see just how easy it was to produce shaped windows.

Although some of the attendees were already familiar with the process, for many it was completely new. Adding a profile bending facility to their businesses has the potential of improving customer service and enhancing profits.

GTI delivers, installs, commissions and provides operator training for all the equipment supplied and sees after sales support as a vital component of the service it provides.

As with all Kombimatec machines they are fully guaranteed for 12 months without quibble.

GTI Kombimatec has an extensive partner reference list and invites window fabricators and profile suppliers to visit the design and manufacturing plant in Luton, England to see machines being built to high exacting standards. Please call 01582 455 934 to arrange a visit or alternatively view products on-line at http://www.kombimatec.com.

Answering the Call

DIY SOS is the popular BBC TV programme that provides a lifeline for DIY botchers - or those who live with them. Early in August, HW70 fabricator, Cash & Carry Windows received an SOS from the programme's production team. Joint Managing Director Terence Clark took the call.

‘It was a simple request for a U-PVC front door,’ says Terence, ‘the difficulty was that it was required in double quick time. In the end we made, glazed and delivered the door in less than two days.

‘We had no hesitation in becoming involved with the project. Every time I have seen the programme I have enjoyed it. It was fascinating being part of the production process and seeing some of the work that goes on behind the scenes to get the programme to air. We are just sorry that we didn't get to meet any of the presenters, though our driver did when he delivered the door.’

‘The property was a terrace house in Longridge, near Preston. The half-glazed front door proved ideal, letting in loads of light, a traditional problem with terraced houses. We chose a climbing rose pattern for the glass and I think the finished article was very attractive’.

As a thank you for the the company’s help Cash & Carry windows will get a credit at the end of the programme and the company's details will be listed on the DIY SOS website, which receives over half a million hits every day.

Ian Clarke, Cash & Carry's other MD says, ‘I can't wait to watch the programme when it goes out sometime in the New Year. Seeing our door on the TV and knowing that eight million other people are also seeing it will make me very proud. I imagine I shall feel a bit like Wayne Rooney's Dad!’

Tools for the Trade

Major investment in marketing by Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems is set to help its customers continue to win profitable business. The company is unveiling a range of tools designed to help its customers.

A new advertising campaign for the trade is being executed, emphasising the ease of fabrication and fitting of an Aztec roof, its competitiveness and benefits of working with Aztec, building on the ethos laid down earlier in the year of the support Aztec gives its fabricators.

A comprehensive portfolio of new marketing literature is being produced, developed in conjunction with Aztec customers to deliver an end-product that meets as many of their requirements as possible, presented in a quality way. The literature will emphasise the quality of the Aztec system, its impact on the overall conservatory and helping end-users understand the considerations in specifying a conservatory.

The literature is reinforced by plans to enable Aztec fabricators to benefit from the Aztec resource to develop their own, bespoke websites.

Aztec’s marketing and business development manager Kerry Connon observes, ‘Aztec maintains its product is already proven in the current price-competitive market as its order book continues to grow, and more fabricators move into roof fabrication using the Aztec system, or switch from a competitive option.
‘The premium quality sector of the conservatory market is becoming more sophisticated in its marketing.

‘We need to ensure we give our customers all the support they need to succeed, not only in providing quality marketing tools but identifying business opportunities for them, and working with them to maximise the potential of that. Most fabricators do not have the resource to be able to invest in a major marketing programme: we have that resource and will do that for them, working in partnership to grow their business.’

MRA Shortlisted for Best Agency in Construction Marketing Awards

Fact-based PR and marketing specialist Michael Rigby Associates (MRA) has reached the finals of the Agency of the Year category in The Construction Marketing Awards 2004 on its first attempt. The awards are organised by EMAP Construction Network and supported by CIMCIG (Chartered Institute of Marketing Construction Industry Group). The Award for Agency of the Year is for any agency, whether advertising, business development or PR, that has performed for clients, changed perceptions and made a measurable difference. ‘This is something that is always our objective on behalf of our customers,’ explains Fiona Lund, Business Development Director of Michael Rigby Associates. ‘We are delighted to be one of just three agencies to be shortlisted in this category.’

The Awards, to be presented in December, are for marketing and business development best practice within the construction supply chain. Tracy Collins, Head of Events at Emap comments on the award entries this year: ‘The prestigious Awards, now in their fourth year, are universally recognised as a unique and highly regarded measure of excellence in construction marketing and business development. This year the Judges had a really hard job on their hands. The quality of entries was higher than ever.’

‘The PR we do at MRA is different,’ continues Fiona. ‘We call it ‘fact-based marketing’ and measuring results is a key part of what we do. Unusually we combine both PR to create advantage, and market research to measure the result. We specialise in creating new markets, repositioning brands and high-level campaigns to change perceptions or proactive defence when brands are under attack. We are also members of BMRA, the professional research body, and have BS7911 the recognised standard for market research.’

Aztec Helps Win British Gold and Break World Record

Britain has won its first Paralympic gold medal ever- with help from Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems.

The Haydock based company, a conservatory roof system provider which markets on the speed with which its system can be built, sponsors the Yasumitsu-Schlapp cycling team, based at Manchester Velodrome. The team’s Ellen Hunter provides the ‘eyes’ for visually impaired rider Aileen McGlynn, who together have won Gold in the 1km tandem time trial, simultaneously breaking the world record.

The pair clocked up speeds of 50kph, completing the 1km in just 1m 11 seconds. It is the first time the pair has competed in the Paralympics. They went on to win another Silver medal in the championships. The success is especially sweet for Ellen: she broke her back racing last year and was told she may never ride again.

Andrea Ingram, Yasumitsu Schlapp team manager, commented ‘Ellen has shown incredible courage since her accident and performed superbly. Her success in Athens is a superb tribute to her and her commitment to the sport, and due in no small part to Aztec’s sponsorship which has enabled us to send our top cyclists further afield to gain the competitive experience they need, invest in the equipment and reduce financial constraint.’

Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems’ managing director Colin Bennett, added, ‘It is great to see Britain succeed, and be at the pinnacle of sport. It is a good feeling that Aztec as a company has helped achieve that, albeit in a small way.’

Aztec has been backing the Yasumitsu Schlapp team for two years. Colin said, ‘Aztec has an on-going commitment to help British athletes in areas that otherwise do not receive the financial support. Speed cycling fits well alongside our ethos of providing a system that is simpler, better and faster than the competition, and the team is local to us.’

Aztec Customers get Revved up

Conservatory roof fabricators were ‘firing on all cylinders’ when Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems hosted a Classic Car Day.

The Haydock-based company treated a group of customers to a day driving classic cars round the Cotswolds with TV presenter, motoring journalist and former racing driver Tiff Needell.

After meeting at Birmingham, the guests drove a Maserati Ghibli, Aston Martin DB7, Bentley Mulsanne, E-Type Jaguar, Porsche 911 Super Sport Targa, MG-TF and a Ferrari Mondial on a route to Broadway, where Aztec provided lunch at the luxurious Dormy House Hotel, and back to Birmingham. Strategic change-over points en-route ensured everyone had a drive in each of the cars.

Aztec directors Colin Bennett, Steve Pike and John Sales with sales manager Gordon Cooke and marketing & business development manager Kerry Connon selected customers specifically for their enjoyment of cars and driving, giving each the opportunity to bring their own guest - business partner or customer.

Said Colin, ‘The smiles on our customers’ faces at each change-over point and the end of the day was proof enough of what a brilliant, unforgettable day they’d had.

‘To us, the day gave synergy to our marketing theme of ‘simpler better faster’: we used Tiff and the E-Type in our corporate video, and Tiff has joined us on stand at Glassex, so the classic car day with Tiff was a logical progression. It is also somewhat different to traditional corporate entertainment events- and Aztec prides itself on giving customers something different!’

The Classic Car Day was one of a series of corporate events being staged by Aztec, to thank its customers for their business.

Ritec Prize goes to K2

Ritec customer Iain Whittaker, General Manager of K2, was the lucky winner of a DVD player in a Silicone Eater special prize draw following this year’s Glassex at Birmingham. The delighted winner was presented with his prize at K2’s Bolton plant by Stuart van Dort, Ritec’s UK Sales Manager.

Silicone Eater SE-550, which was launched by Ritec last year, dissolves unwanted silicone sealant from glass or any surface where the silicone should not be. In the factory, sealants may contaminate glass, framework, equipment, conveyors, tools, workbenches and floors. During installation, sealants can be accidentally spread onto glass, framework or other surroundings. And after installation, some sealants ‘bleed’ onto glass and framework, causing unsightly marks and staining.

Visitors to the Ritec stand at this year’s Glassex were offered a free sample of Silicone Eater so that they could try it out for themselves. This was accompanied by a questionnaire to find out how well the product worked for them, and Ritec donated £1 to the Macular Disease Society for each questionnaire returned.

Customers Benefit from Freefoam Brand Audit

Freefoam will introduce several new customer-focused initiatives over the coming weeks and months as a result of a recently completed brand audit. The brand audit was conducted by an independent research company and identified perceptions of Freefoam held by a wide range of existing and prospective customers, and by employees. Audit recommendations will result in a number of new initiatives to meet and exceed customers’ product and service expectations.

Among these is the introduction of a large range of new guides, brochures and point-of-sale materials that will be available to all Freefoam customers, including a detailed Fixing Guide for Installers; a New Build & Specification Brochure outlining the diversity of products and services available to Architects and Specifiers; a desktop Point-Of-Sale Display Stand to display brochures and guides; and a Product Wall Chart providing an overview of Freefoam products.

Other initiatives include providing CPD (Continuing Professional Development) seminars to Architects, Specifiers and other professionals in the construction industry, which have already begun; the introduction of a number of new products; and the introduction of a new corporate identity consisting of a new, evolved logo and design that will be incorporated into a complete new suite of literature, point-of-sale materials, truck livery and related media.

Brendan Hyland, Freefoam’s Marketing Manager, comments, ‘The world’s strongest brands share a number of important attributes. Top of the list is that the brand should excel at delivering the benefits customers truly desire. This brand audit has identified the benefits desired by the customers and markets that we serve, and has identified a number of initiatives that will provide these benefits. Implementation of these initiatives over the coming weeks and months will add significant value to the brand from our customers’ perspectives and will contribute to our goal of becoming the No. 1 Manufacturer of roofline products in Northern Europe.’

Bolton Netball Team Shows Absolute Determination to Reach the Top

A netball team of nine women sponsored for the first time this year by trade fabricator Absolute Windows Ltd of Bolton has already proved its worth by moving up a division in just one season. The Absolute Windows team played with such resolve in this year’s Bolton Summer Netball League that it has moved from Division 5 to the top of Division 4, and has high hopes of achieving further progression in Division 3 next season.

Led by Captain Hallima Kasseum and Vice Captain Gaynor White, the Absolute Windows team started life five years ago and is made up of nine regular players ranging in age from 24 to 42 years old. While the original objective of the team was simply to keep fit and have fun at the same time, Gaynor White says that they are now aiming much higher:

‘Over the years, and because we have got to know one another and our relative strengths much better, our playing has improved enormously. Whereas we used to just enjoy playing for the sake of it, we have now developed a stronger competitive streak and are really working hard to get better and better. We now train regularly and play at least once a week. We want to do as well as we possibly can because we think are a strong, winning team.'

As the team grew in skill and ambition, its members decided that they needed a sponsor to help spur them on. Team member Sarah Dance suggested talking to brother-in-law Jim Dance, Director of Absolute Windows Ltd, and convinced him to come and watch the team play. Says Jim:

‘I was really impressed with their speed and skill on court. Netball is actually a very fast-moving game and it takes a lot of hard work and determination to become good at it. I thought the team deserved our support and I am very proud of what they have achieved so far.’

Gaynor White believes that the Absolute Windows team has what it takes to get to the top:

‘Quite a few of the teams playing in the Bolton League include younger members that actually play for the County, so I think we’ve done really well to get this far in competition with them. We are a very good team with real potential, and having a sponsor has given us the confidence to believe we can do even better. We are setting our sights high for the Winter season.’

The team members are:
Hallima Kasseum
Gaynor White
Sarah Dance
Joyce Elder
Elaine Gaskall
Katherine Canning
Helen Aitken
Paula Quinn
Alethea Faulkner
