Planet is Over the Moon with Judy's £8,000 Conservatory Win

Planet Leeds and Wakefield, had the company's first prize of an £8,000 Planet conservatory won on Yorkshire's, Real Radio's Inside Out competition drawn live on Terry and Debbie's Breakfast Show recently.

Judy Hudson of Huddersfield and mum to 7-year-old Alicia and 5-year-old Peter said she was over the moon to win the conservatory from Planet. 'It's going to make a big difference to me and the children and I'm really impressed with the designs and quality of conservatories that Planet produces. Planet will ensure our conservatory is completed within two weeks of starting on site so we're really excited at the prospect.'

Partners Martin Ibberson and Phil Naylor who run the Planet PVC Group showrooms in Mirfield near Wakefield and in Seacroft, Leeds said: 'Judy was one of four finalists on the show. She had successfully identified a tune played backwards to ensure her place in the final. We're delighted her name was pulled out of the hat. Depending on Judy's requirements the £8,000 will enable her to have a fabulous conservatory in time for the summer.'

The competition was part of a branding and awareness campaign for Planet's Wakefield and Leeds showrooms. The prize and the Planet name were heavily promoted over an intense two week period with 108 pre-recorded, 30 second slots, giving mentions across the day plus a further 88 live mentions from the presenters of the station's popular morning drive time programme.

'We're delighted with the impact the campaign has had with a high number of showroom visitors saying they had heard the promotion and it has resulted in additional sales, which is what it's all about,' added Martin and Phil who launched the Wakefield and Leeds showrooms in June 2002 and September 2002 respectively.

Planet PVC Group's Wakefield and Leeds showrooms are over 650 sq metres in size and each feature an impressive display of 10 fully built conservatories along with a window and door gallery.

Planet Conservatories have featured a number of times on Carol Vorderman's 'Better Homes' TV programme.

Vitraseal adds Q-Mark to New Livery

Double glazing manufacturer Vitraseal has invested in new livery for its fleet of delivery vehicles which now sport the BM TRADA Certification and Q-Mark logos, underlining the company’s commitment to quality.

Vitraseal was one of the first members of BM TRADA’s Q-Mark third-party certification scheme for Insulating Glass Units (IGUs), designed to help manufacturers meet the demands of EN 1279: Glass In Building – Insulating Glass Units, expected to be ratified later this year.

Vitraseal Production Manager Gary Cooling said the company had decided to pursue testing to EN 1279 ahead of time to be able to offer more than their competitors. ‘We were aware that BM TRADA worked closely with local authorities and that was a significant factor in deciding to move our testing to them.’

The company decided, in fact, to go further and to target the Q-Mark scheme, to give customers the added confidence of a respected quality mark. To achieve the Q-Mark, manufacturers must satisfy factory production control requirements (including audit tests) and carry out initial type testing.

There is a heavy emphasis on verifying the workmanship of the units on the production line, which was another important factor in working with BM TRADA. Mr Cooling said, ‘Vitraseal was established more than 25 years ago and we have a reputation for quality which we are keen to uphold. BM TRADA’s approach is in line with our own thinking, that an audit should focus more on the product than the paperwork.’

The Q-Mark scheme will pave the way to CE marking, as the requirements are virtually identical, Mr Cooling added. ‘CE marking is another area in which BM TRADA has a growing reputation and that was a further reason for choosing to work with them. With EN 1279 fast approaching, we feel we are all on a learning curve, but working with BM TRADA we don’t feel that we are on our own.’

Pearl Opens a Window for Key Customers and Suppliers

Pearl Window Systems recently held an Open Day in conjunction with K2 for 20 of its top customers and suppliers on Friday 2nd April at the company's show site in Bolton.

The event included a speech by Jeff Walsh, owner of Pearl Window Systems, as well as a presentation by Bill Kenyon, Technical Support Manager at K2. Products on display included K2's Celsius performance glass installed in a K2 Gable conservatory. As part of Pearl's ongoing first class customer service promise, the company is able to ensure that Celsius is delivered direct to consumers or to the site where the conservatory is being constructed. This direct delivery service not only increases efficiency and saves time, but also reduces the likelihood of breakages.

An L2 in a Pack roof was also amongst the products on show, with K2 staff demonstrating the modular roof system's quality and ease of installation, by assembling L2 within 20 minutes. This was joined by K2's new blue/white product range, as well as several new product enhancements unveiled at the recent Gleneagles customer conference; including the new ridge, eaves beam and Edwardian hip bars.

Finally, K2's all new Window and Door System was available for viewing, which Pearl has recently added to the K2 roof system that it already distributes. K2 launched its new window and door system at its recent customer conference in Gleneagles. The new division offers a fully sculptured, five-chambered system with totally concealed gaskets and a sculptured Georgian bar.

Comments Jeff Walsh, Managing Director of Pearl Window Systems: 'We have been supplying K2 roof products for several years and have always been happy with the levels of product and service quality the company has provided. We were also very impressed by K2's recent customer conference at Gleneagles, which inspired us to hold our own event to show our appreciation to our customers and suppliers.'

He continues: 'When we heard that K2 was going to extend its range into window and door systems we were keen to find out more about the range. Having seen the products and the level of innovation that has gone into developing them, we had no hesitation in stocking them and have already received significant interest from our customers for a complete K2 conservatory.'

Comments Marketing Director of K2, Iain McInnes: 'We were happy to assist Pearl with this Open Day and delighted that the company is now stocking the full range of our products, meaning that it can now offer a complete K2 system, providing a perfect colour match and consistent sight lines throughout the build.'

He continues: 'Pearl Window Systems is one of the most highly regarded dealers in the UK and its stocking of our Window and Door system is the first step towards achieving good market penetration for the range. We have invested significantly in ensuring that the system offers a superior product range and have a clear programme of marketing activity in place to support dealers that stock the products.'

K2 is already in high-level talks with a number of its other key dealers regarding distribution of the K2 Window and Door System range.

Eurocell and Eastwood Find the Winning Formula

Eurocell sponsored Eastwood Town travelled to Thackley in Yorkshire with a 2 goal advantage from the first leg of the Presidents Cup final, and when James ‘Topps’ Whitehead gave them the away goal in the 1st half, Thackley then needed to hit four in order to prise the Cup from Eastwood’s grasp. In the second half, Wael Nazha added his 24th and 25th goals of the season to see the ‘Badgers’ go home comfortable winners in the end, 5-0 on aggregate.

Keith Smith, Eastwood Town’s new chairman stated, ‘we thoroughly deserved our victory; we were the better team over both legs. The team have been excellent since I took the helm and the new additions to the playing staff have certainly helped drive us on. This victory will build our confidence for the league run-in.’

Network Rewards Classique with a £12,000 Van

Retford-based Classique Windows has been presented with a £12,000 Renault Trafic van by Network Veka for becoming the fastest-growing member company in 2003.

Proprietor Mick Colley won the fully-liveried vehicle after beating 140 other companies across Britain and Ireland by more than doubling turnover in the year.

Ironically, the company began to snowball after Mick tried to reorganise his week to see more of his family, as he explained:
‘I tried to take a step back from installing and put aside a couple of days a week just for meeting customers. But the more customers I met, the busier we became and now I am working longer than ever!’

Classique’s win was arranged via Network Veka’s fleet deal with Renault.
Harry Charnock, Network Veka’s Northern England Quality Auditor who handed over the van, said Classique’s expansion was well earned:
‘Mick has always gone to great lengths to uphold our strict quality standards,’ he added. ‘And our Customer Satisfaction Survey makes it very clear that homeowners appreciate that.’

The new van, Classique’s third, looks set to make the company even busier, as Mick explained: ‘We already get calls simply from people who have seen the existing van on the road.’
