Hallmark
Shows Commitment to even Greater PVC Door Panel Choice with New Brochure
In
recognition of the continuing importance of the PVC-u decorative door
panel market, Hallmark has created
a new full colour brochure detailing some of the new choices available
from the company. The enhanced range of Hallmark panels now includes a
selection of sculptured and fused glass designs in addition to new door
styles.
Established for over 25 years, Hallmark Panels Ltd is a manufacturer of
both PVC-u door panels and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastics) composite doors.
Having achieved an overall 25% growth in sales per annum year on year
for the previous five years, in 2004 the company increased sales of its
residential door panels by another 20%. One of the main reasons for Hallmarks
success in this area is the companys full commitment to providing
a wide choice of quality products and a superior service record.
The new door panel brochure summarises this commitment, showcasing the
full extent of the range and revealing some new designs. Fresh designs
for solid and glazed residential doors include the modern Catton One and
Ragley, while a new range of sculptured glass designs includes the aptly
named Michelangelo, Rossellino which uses coloured, sculptured
glass to stunning effect and Cellini.
A new range of fused glass panel designs offers a stylish, modern appearance,
with designs such as Gdansk, Lucerne, Perugia and Palermo expected to
prove attractive options for UK homeowners. Also included in the brochure
are expanded ranges of resin, platinum and gold pane, bevelled, film and
leaded and Georgian bar and leaded designs, in addition to new half panel,
conservatory and triple half styles.
Hallmark continues to invest in its PVC-u decorative door panel division
and believes that the market for these products will remain strong. Sales
& Marketing Director John Rolland comments:
The PVC-u decorative door panel market is a long way from being
dead, as our sales record proves. The quality of our modern
door panels simply cannot be compared with the market norm
of just a few years ago and they offer exceptional value for money. We
see no sign of this market shrinking.

Pilkington
Planar Continues to Evolve
To
celebrate the launch of the new Pilkington
Triple Planar, the world's first triple glazed frameless system, Pilkington
Building Products - UK has introduced a newly revised version of its successful
Pilkington Planar brochure.
The
24-page guide details the full range of Pilkington Planar products, setting
out clearly the criteria whereby each product can be specified for different
projects.
In its newest form Pilkington Planar Triple represents a significant move
forward in terms of improved thermal insulation, design flexibility and
multiple glass combinations for better solar performance or noise control.
Building transparency can be significantly increased by the creation of
larger vision areas, facilitating more comfortable working environments,
while also improving the total aesthetics of the building.
Pilkington Planar, the world's leading structural glass system has evolved
from the original patch plate system pioneered by the company over 40
years ago. The landmark system allows the creation of complete glass envelopes
for buildings, with facades on any plane. The system has revolutionised
the way we look at the application of glass as a building material.
Detailing other products used in the Pilkington Planar range, such as
Pilkington Optiwhite, Pilkington Optifloat, and Pilkington Suncool HP,
the brochure discusses the particular range of benefits that are specific
to each. The brochure also highlights the other new additions to the Pilkington
Planar range and their differing application possibilities. Pilkington
Planar Integral, with its bolt fixing system, Pilkington Planar Heavy
Duty, with its increased weight bearing capacity and Pilkington laminated
glass mullions all represent the pinnacle of glass envelope engineering
systems.
Containing over 50 full colour images of projects from across the world,
the aim of the brochure is to help customers select the correct glass
for each project by presenting clear and relevant information about the
products and their applications. By fully demonstrating the adaptability
of the Pilkington Planar range, and including a detailed section on the
available fittings for use with the system, the brochure represents a
comprehensive reference for anyone with an interest in glass building
systems.

Latest
Hardware Guide Helps Specifiers and Users meet New European Standard
The
Door and Hardware Federation
(DHF) has published its latest best practice guide designed to help specifiers
and users with the correct selection and use of hardware products.
The Best Practice Guide to Mechanically Operated Locks, Latches and Locking
Plates follows the publication of the latest harmonised European standard
for this type of hardware, BS EN 12209.
It is the latest in a series of guides published by the DHFs building
hardware and architectural ironmongery section (formerly the Association
of Building Hardware Manufacturers) to give help on the correct interpretation
of emerging European standards.
Fundamental to this latest standard is a comprehensive classification
system for assessing the wide range of products needed to satisfy the
diverse requirements of the European market. It covers requirements and
test methods for all types of mechanical lock or latch, including associated
or separately supplied striking plates, intended for use on pedestrian
doors in buildings.
Features assessed in the new guide include normal use (and abuse) forces,
long-term durability, fire and smoke resistance, corrosion and temperature
resistance, and security (both manipulative and physical).
The guide also contains guidance on hardware marking including CE marking
because BS EN 12209 is a harmonised standard.
Copies of the printed Best Practice Guide to Mechanically Operated Locks,
Latches and Locking Plates are available from the DHF Secretariat, 42
Heath Street, Tamworth, Staffs B79 7JH. Phone: 01827 52337. Fax: 01827

the new European Standard EN 1279 Glass In Building Insulating
Glass Units, five of six parts of which have already been published.
The outstanding Part 5 is expected to be published in June this year,
with full compliance becoming mandatory by February 2007.
The Chiltern Fire information sheet explains the requirements of the standard
and gives guidance on testing. It also gives some insight into CE marking.

New
Practical Guide to Recycling Window Waste Launched
A
good practice guide to recycling window waste aimed at window replacement,
conservatory and building maintenance and renovation companies has recently
been launched by WRAP (the Waste &
Resources Action Programme).
The publication, Recycling Your Window Waste: A good practice guide, is
designed to provide window fabricators, installation professionals, site
managers and other professionals working in the housing sector with practical
guidance on how to recycle window waste.
Research commissioned by WRAP has found that there is up to 500,000 tonnes
of flat glass waste arising from buildings in the UK every year. At present
very little of this waste is recycled, however, the potential is considerable
and growing.
This new two-part guide highlights these potential recycling opportunities
and the potential cost savings. Clear financial advantages can be gained
by reducing waste disposal costs and recycling segregated glass, PVC-U
and metals found in window frames. In addition, good environmental
credentials are increasingly being seen as a key factor in purchasing
decisions, providing marketing opportunities to generate new business.
The domestic replacement window sector is one of the UKs main sources
of glass waste, with around 6.8 million window units replaced each year.
These units account for around 190,000 tonnes of waste, including 90,000
tonnes of glass and substantial amounts of timber, PVC-U and other frame
materials.
Andy Dawe, Materials Sector Manager for glass at WRAP added, We
have developed this guide to provide practical information for decision
makers in the replacement window industry. The guide covers the key aspects
for those considering recycling their window waste such as deconstruction
and segregation techniques, how to deal with the waste produced and the
costs and savings involved in recycling. It also includes an additional
leaflet designed to provide step-by-step guidance for employees working
on-site.
He added In parallel with the development of this guide, WRAP are
working with industry to put in place the necessary collection and processing
infrastructure to ensure that the desire to recycle can be satisfied.
The guide has been developed out of practical research commissioned by
WRAP and led by BRE (the Building Research Establishment). More detailed
findings from this work will be published shortly.
Copies of the guide can be downloaded from the WRAP website at:

New
Literature from Deceuninck
Deceuninck
has introduced a new literature insert to support the companys popular
2800 decorative suite.
The new insert has been created to complement the companys existing
retail literature and demonstrates the aesthetics, technology and style
options of the window. Designed as an informative guide for the homeowner,
the new insert will be most beneficial for 2800 customers who trade in
the retail sector.
Commenting on the new literature, Marketing Manager, Henry Vowden said,
The Deceuninck 2800 Series is a very popular system; a view that
is shared by our fabricators and homeowners. As such, we felt we needed
a dedicated consumer insert that efficiently demonstrates the many attributes
of the window and so assist with retail sales. It once again demonstrates

Welcome Pack Makes it Even Easier to get ProActiv
Following
the launch earlier this year of the Pilkington
ProActiv on-line scheme, designed to help the trade at
all levels to market and sell the worlds first self-cleaning glass,
Pilkington has now introduced a comprehensive, free Welcome Pack to make
it even easier for customers to register. Available to any company that
fits, sells, distributes or manufactures with Pilkington Activ,
the new Welcome Pack is crammed with information and sales tools for the
product, and answers practically any questions a customer may have about
Pilkington Activ, including a full list of compatible products.
The free Welcome Pack has been designed as a companion to the Pilkington
ProActiv on-line service and introduces the customer to the benefits
offered by the scheme. In addition to the essential details of how to
register, the Pack also includes a wide range of other items to help customers
make the most out of the scheme. Visual aids include a training video
and presentation CD ROM and a time-lapse video CD showing
proof of the Pilkington Activ process. Other useful pack contents
include an audio product guide CD, sales benefits, a comprehensive list
of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), samples of the consumer brochure
and new installation certificate, a mouse mat and notepad, technical and
marketing advice sheets, and even a list of cleaning and maintenance instructions.
However, the main purpose of the Pack is to familiarise customers with
the key advantages offered by Pilkington ProActiv. The scheme offers
an on-line support service that provides access to marketing support materials,
making it easy for the trade to learn about and promote Pilkington Activ.
In developing a powerful range of materials and services, Pilkington carried
out research with 100 suppliers before finalising the details.
In response to the research, a full range of literature including consumer
brochures, POS material, training materials, certificates of installation
and advertisement blocks is available to order on-line. Back up from a
dedicated technical advice team is also available through Pilkington ProActiv.
To keep regular checks on the scheme and ensure that customers are getting
the most out of it, registered companies will be called each quarter for
feedback and to discuss how Pilkington can support their marketing activities
and assist with sales growth. One of the primary objectives of the scheme
is to act as a channel for companies to obtain information and guidance
in addition to promotional items for Pilkington Activ self-cleaning
glass. Perhaps most importantly, by registering for Pilkington ProActiv,
companies will also be added to the list of Pilkington Activ suppliers
published on the website, resulting in further added value sales opportunities.
To obtain a free Welcome Pack and find out more about the Pilkington ProActiv
scheme, Pilkington Activ customers may call the Pilkington Technical
Advice Service on 01744 692000, or email mailto:proactiv@pilkington.com.

Specifire
CD-ROM makes Life Easier for Specifiers
The
specification of the correct fire glass for each application is one of
the most fundamental considerations of any building project. In recognition
of this, Pilkington Building Products - UK
has updated its popular Specifire slide rule to a CD-ROM format incorporating
additional features to help specifiers and users to identify the most
appropriate fire resistant glass quickly, easily and accurately.
As a source of up-to-date information detailing the entire Pilkington
range of fire-resistant glass and its extensive testing portfolio, this
CD-ROM allows users to navigate through the application requirements in
nine easy steps, each requiring just one click of the mouse.
Based on the selections made, the details of the recommended glass type,
together with its properties and links to the corresponding fire test
summary sheets showing the tested framing and glazing materials are displayed.
The development of the Pilkington Specifire CD ROM represents the latest
in a series of innovations from Pilkington Building Products - UK, including
the development of a range of fire glass products including Pilkington
Pyrodur Plus, Pilkington Pyrodur, Pilkington Pyroshield and Pilkington
Pyrostop.
Anne Quayle, Marketing Manager at Pilkington Building Products - UK, commented:
'Pilkington has always been proud of its extensive test portfilio for
fire-resistant glass but ironically choosing the correct fire test summary
was becoming harder and harder! So the development of Pilkington Specifire
in CD ROM represents an exciting way forward for development in the specification
process. By removing the complexity from the process the time it would
normally take can be greatly reduced and the customer has the reassurance
that the correct glass has been specified.'

Kömmerling
Insulation Glass Brochures
For
the insulation glass industry, Kömmerling
Chemie says that it is the partner with the most complete product
range in the market - all the more since taking over the glass line from
Chemetall in 2003. With the broad range of sealants and adhesives, each
tuned optimally to the application-specific requirements, the Pirmasens
company says that it is technologically also one of the leading manufacturers
in the insulation glass sector. As to the state of Kömmerling technology,
that is summarised now by four new information sheets making a total of
twenty pages: Insulation glass sealants (GD systems), Insulation
glass-sealants (Naftotherm), cast resin systems (Ködilan)
and cast resin systems (Naftolan).
The new brochures offer a general view of the product range for insulation
glass manufacturers, detailed enough to contain all relevant information
but at the same time reduced to the most significant to remain sufficiently
clear. They comprise the primary Kömmerling sealants on a butyl basis
as well as secondary sealants on a polysulfide, polyurethane and silicone
basis and hotmelts, and also provide information about thermoplastic spacers
and the cast resin systems Ködilan and Naftolan for the manufacture
of composite glasses with noise-absorbing an/or attack-blocking properties.
The brochures can be obtained at Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik GMBH,
