New Brochure Apeers with Sidelights

New World Developments has published a new 28-page brochure on its double-skinned GRP doorset, Apeer. Showing the diversity of entrances that can be achieved, it is packed with illustrations of Apeer’s latest sidelight range and glass designs.

Apeer, the GRP composite doorset, is New World’s flagship product. Looking good and with real timber grains, its patent pending features, as well as an aluminium-reinforced frame, give Apeer a high security status but with ‘kerbside appeal’.

Apeer’s seven solid and eight glazed styles are manufactured with a matching glazing trim unit and complementary hardware for perfect fit and aesthetic appeal. Available in a choice of black, white, blue, green, red, rosewood and light oak finish embedded into the GRP resin, Apeer has a triple glazed system that cannot be removed externally.

'In the new Apeer brochure the numerous variations of sidelights and fanlights, incorporating traditional glass designs, will show how the district and householder’s personality can be indulged without compromising security, longevity or good looks. It will be a source of inspiration in helping customers choose their ideal entrance. ' says the company.

Celuform Launches New Partnering and Sustainability Documents

As evidence of commitment to the social housing sector, cellular PVC-ue specialist, Celuform, has issued two documents that set out the company's strategy for delivering Sustainability, Best Value, Partnering, and Environmental Management.

'These four philosophies are progressive business concepts that are frequently confused because they are related,' says Andrew Wakelin, Celuform's managing director.

'We have developed an integrated strategy that allows us to maximise the benefits from a sound environmental management system and pass them on to the client in the form of sustainable best practice techniques through the partnering procurement process.'

Celuform has a long record of serving the local authority, social housing and new build markets and is major supplier of maintenance-free cellular plastic roofline, cladding and windowboard systems. The two publications, 'Sustainability' and 'Partnering' look at the company's business philosophies and ongoing work on issues such as recycling, optimising resources, energy conservation, training, on time delivery, and packaging.

The Partnering document includes details of performance measuring and reporting by customers and features a questionnaire that covers key performance indicators including value for money, after sales service, product satisfaction, equality and diversity, as well as waste reduction, transport movements, and packaging management.

'It is very important that our social housing customers understand and can see how seriously we take sustainable partnering and our commitment to the principles of Local Agenda 21 and the Egan Review of Skills for the Sustainable Community,' Andrew Wakelin comments.

The Sustainability brochure also sets out evidence of how PVC-ue has become the material of choice for many specifiers and installers, who now prefer it to timber, which is increasingly being recogniseed as a material which offers limited opportunities for recycling. Cellular plastic products by contrast are highly traceable, last significantly longer, are recycleable, cheaper and quicker to install, in addition to requiring almost no maintenance. Timber production is also being increasingly criticised because it contributes to the production of 'greenhouse gases'.

There are a full range of Celuform PVC-ue systems to suit all applications. Features include plain or decorative choices, square or bull-nosed profiles, as well as a wide selection of white finishes and colours such as Expresso Brown, Mahogany, Golden Oak and Ebony. Widths range from 150 - 450mm. Widely specified Celuform brands include Conquest, Elite, Multi-Purpose Board, Duoform and Emperor.

New Information on Pests and Finishes from TRADA

TRADA Technology Ltd has revised two of its Wood Information Sheets, 'Pests in Houses' and 'Finishes for Exterior Timber'.

'Pests in Houses' lists the types of insects found in houses, with a photograph and brief description. Many of the insects found are associated with materials other than timber, however, and there is no cause for concern.

New houses, particularly of brick and block construction, may be quite damp for a year or two, as the concrete and plaster dries out and insects attracted to these conditions are sometimes seen. Insects common to the garden may also be casual visitors, especially towards the end of the summer.

The Wood Information Sheet deals with: plaster beetle, silverfish, wood lice, earwig , biscuit, bread or drug store beetles, flour beetle, larder or bacon beetle, sawflies, carpet and fur beetles, forest longhorn beetle, ambrosia or pinworm beetles, bark beetle, lyctus or powder post beetle, common furniture beetle and house longhorn beetle.

'Finishes for Exterior Timber' describes the range of finishes available, why finishes are used, common problems which can arise and guidance on maintenance.

Timber exposed to the weather and not protected by some kind of finish will ‘weather’ and quite rapidly become bleached and grey. While this effect may be desirable, the result is often dirty and patchy, giving the timber a neglected appearance.

Some form of protective treatment or finish can avoid this.

The design of a building and its components can greatly influence both the performance of the timber and its finish. Timber building components are sometimes stored on site for several months before they are installed into a weathertight building. During this time, they may be subject to damp or to contamination with dirt. It is sound practice therefore, to apply at least one coat of primer, paint or other finish in the factory before packaging for dispatch to the site.

TRADA members and registered users of the askTRADA website may view the contents of these two Wood Information Sheets free of charge at http://www.trada.co.uk. To purchase a printed copy, please contact the Publications Department on 01494 569602 or email mailto:info@trada.co.uk. Cost is £5.75 (incl postage & packing).

Home security specialist Yale Door & Window Solutions has produced a free technical briefing update outlining the security issues, relating to hardware, that need to be considered by local authority and housing association specifiers.

Introducing the Handy Guide to Pilkington

Understanding the role glass plays in modern construction has just got easier with a handy, quick-glance product guide from Pilkington Building Products - UK. Available for the first time in this format, the company has produced a four-page guide featuring 43 individual products across ten benefit led categories.

Glass is becoming an increasingly common feature in the present day urban landscape and it performs a number of important functions within buildings as well.

This guide is a timesaving and quick reference guide to the company's entire range of products. As each product has been placed into a benefit led category it offers specifiers, installers, contractors, merchants, processors and glaziers alike, an instant reference to the virtues of each product. Its aim is to make the specification of glass a whole lot easier.

Each product has been separated into different groups in accordance to what it has been designed to do. The categories have been divided into solar control, thermal insulation, fire protection, noise control, safety, security, self-cleaning, decoration, glass systems and special applications.

A benefit-led symbol has been created for each product category, with each appropriate product then listed alongside. To simplify the process even further, a description of each product then follows to give readers a clear explanation as what each glass is designed to do.

With Pilkington Building Products - UK responsible for many of the technical developments in glass over the years, it is entirely fitting that the company has produced an introductory summary to the visual, aesthetic and practical benefits of its unrivalled product range.

GAP’s New Brochure is Just Enough of a Good Thing

We’ve all been to coffee shops where you are forced to consider umpteen varieties and sizes of Americano, Latte, Cappuccino, and Espresso, plus various toppings and flavours, when all you wanted was a quick cup of coffee. That’s why GAP, Europe’s fourth largest door panel manufacturer, has introduced its new glossy brochure, ‘Cosmo’. It’s an easy-to-use, condensed version of the popular ‘Cosmopolitan’ booklet.

Mark Simm, Group Sales and Marketing Manager for GAP, gives further details: ‘Customers love our door panels, and the enormous number of options to choose from. But they told us some homeowners were bewildered by the choices. There were just too many to choose from, and that made it harder for them to buy.
‘We listened and thought about it, because we know how that feels. The result is our ‘Cosmo’ brochure. It features only the 40 best selling door panels, so choosing is easy.

‘We’re not reducing the range, and the original ‘Cosmopolitan’ brochure with all 140 designs is still available. But the new brochure will make it a lot easier for homeowners to make up their minds, and a lot easier for installers to sell.’

Direct Daylight
