New Sash Brochures Provide the Personal Touch

Sash UK Ltd, the UK trade fabricator, has introduced a series of distinctive new sales brochures that have been designed to draw attention to the personal tastes involved in choosing new windows, doors or conservatories. Following the same theme, the brochures may also be personalised with installers’ own branding and logos as a superior sales tool.

Illustrated with bright, colourful photography of both the company’s wide range of products and interior and exterior examples of varied installations, the new Sash brochures target two groups of customers: window and door buyers and conservatory buyers. The window and door brochure focuses mainly on the individuality and freedom of choice that can be enjoyed by customers of Sash UK products, represented by images of the wide variety of styles and glazing options offered by the company. Various ‘looks’ are then explored by the brochure, with room styles ranging from ‘contemporary’ to ‘elegant’. High security and emergency escape options are also explained.

Titled with the phrase ‘I have a dream…’, the Sash conservatory brochure explores the individual personality that can be expressed in a customer’s choice of conservatory design. Distinctive examples are used to illustrate the wide-ranging possibilities offered by Sash UK, including a conservatory used as a snooker and sports room, another as a fully compatible extension to an unusual house and another as a grand entrance porch, plus many more. Sash products such as sculptured and bevelled sash profiles and decorative strips are also featured.

Both these brochures may be supplied branded with the name and livery of the window company selling the product, acting as a sales aid for consumer presentations. Nick Hibberd, PR & Marketing Manager for Sash UK, believes that the brochures represent a fresh approach to selling windows, doors and conservatories:
‘All of us are now used to seeing a profusion of DIY and home improvement programmes on TV and consumers now know how much choice is available to them in home decoration. Sash has recognised that the same is true of choosing windows, doors and conservatories and that homeowners should be presented with their choices in the same way as they would be presented with any other home improvement option.’

A Shepley Guide on how to Profit from Conservatories

Shepley Window Systems, the UK trade fabricator of PVCu windows, doors and conservatories, has written ‘A Guide on how to profit from conservatories’. A guide for installers who feel they could benefit from straightforward, sound advice provided by installers who have already succeeded in the growing conservatory market.

Many installers see the conservatory market as a growing sector with huge potential and the evidence towards this is overwhelming. In 1998, the UK conservatory market topped 180,000 conservatories a year, worth a cool £1.2b at installed prices. In 2003, the market is believed to be some 60% bigger at around 290,000 conservatories. Currently, a third of all of the industry’s windows and doors go to make sidewalls for conservatories. If current trends continue, at some point in the near future what was once an interesting niche sector, conservatories, appears destined to become the main market!

‘Conservatories are different in many ways from windows, and those differences impact strongly on the structure of a business,’ explains Gary Torr, managing director of Shepley. ‘They make the difference between getting by and making a profit. For many installers, conservatories are not the honey pot they first thought. Some have found that the more conservatories they install, the more money they lose, and businesses that are well tuned to selling and installing windows may not be tuned to conservatories. Which is why we have produced this guide. Conservatories can be a profitable addition to an installers portfolio, but their business may need to change. This guide tells them how.’

To order your free copy of Shepley’s guide on how to profit from conservatories please call Shepley on 0161 339 2433.

UK Fasteners Simplifies Screws

UK Fasteners has launched its latest marketing support item to help fabricators and specifiers understand these small but crucial window components. ‘Which Screw Where? A Guide to Fasteners for Specifiers and Fabricators’ simplifies the subject of screws to ensure the right fastener is used in the right application. This clear, impartial guide details the different types of screws and materials available, their benefits and shortfalls and the applications in which they should be used. It includes products not offered by UK Fasteners. Perhaps most importantly the guide goes beyond the technical jargon a lot of fastener suppliers rely on.

‘We want to provide the facts,’ says David Ballinger, Managing Director of UK Fasteners. ‘As UK Fasteners offers the widest range of quality screws and materials in the UK, our advice is not restricted to one product or material. We want you to make the right choice each and every time.’

New Brochure from Phoenix Door Panels

Hot on the heels of the company’s move to purpose built 30,000sq ft premises, Phoenix Door Panels has launched its new Cambridgeshire Collection brochure.

The brochure has been completely re-designed and now offers over 120 different glass designs featuring both traditional decorative glass and a selection of new Crystal Resin designs, some of which feature coloured borders.

In response to market demand, the company has also launched a High Security Upgrade for three of its most popular panel designs. The upgrade combines a solid, moisture resistant MDF core with laminated safety glass providing a secure door panel for the most demanding installations.

Euro-size panels are also now available. Designed primarily to meet the needs of the company’s export customers, these new larger panels offer the UK installer the opportunity to meet the growing demand for wider access door openings. The range features ten panel designs which are all available with the company’s glass bevel designs and some will also feature the new Crystal Resin designs.

‘The launch of our new brochure is the result of considerable investment not only in the quality of the brochure, but in the product range we offer’ comments Phoenix Sales Manager, Tony Wiggins. ‘Installers in today’s market expect high quality point of sale literature from their supplier which helps promote their image to their customers and initial reaction to our new brochure has more than justified the time and cost invested’.

20 Year Guarantee Information

The new 20 Year Extended guarantee from Freefoam Plastics, roofline and rainwater systems’ manufacturer, was launched earlier this year and the company claims it is proving a success for Freefoam, its customers and home-owners alike.

Stockists across the country benefit from offering a system with added-value, installers have a purchase protection incentive to support their sales, and homeowners have greater peace of mind in knowing their property is covered by a genuine guarantee.

Freefoam has published a set of Information sheets to give stockists and installers a better understanding of how the 20 Year Extended guarantee scheme works and on the various ways of registering installers and installations. They also highlight some of the most frequently asked questions relevant to homeowners and offer advice on how to check if an installer is registered.

‘The guarantee scheme is another initiative in our quest to become the stockist and installers’ supplier of choice for roofline and rainwater systems’, comments Tony Walsh, Freefoam Managing Director.

‘Cowboy fitters and rogue traders have made the whole issue of printed warranties a minefield of potential abuse. Our system is online, self-administering and specific to each installation, which means there is no scope for forgery. The homeowner can be guaranteed their guarantee is real.’

For your copy of the 20 year guarantee information sheets call direct on 01604 759871 in the UK or 021 4911055 in Ireland.

Shepley Helps Customers Produce Accurate Price Lists

Retail price lists can be effective sales tools but they are often not accurate. If they are not right, profits may not be what the company expected. Shepley Window Systems has created a price list on CD for customers to use in their day-to-day business. The list is in an easy-to-adapt Excel format with a formula for customers to add their own retail mark-up to produce an accurate price.

Ease of use was a priority: the CD takes customers through the list, step by step. Glazed and unglazed lists are available, as well as different width and height options.

The CD also allows customers to ‘customise’ the list – to put their company name on it as well as their own prices.

‘We’ve made sure the list is flexible to meet customers’ needs,’ explains Paul Thompson, IT Consultant for Shepley. ‘Different customers like to do different things, and the CD makes the process easier while ensuring prices are accurate.’

Timber Windows are the Natural Choice for Homebuyers

The British Woodworking Federation has launched a major new marketing initiative to promote the use of BWF Accredited Timber Windows to housebuilders.

As part of the campaign, the BWF has produced 'Timber Windows: The Natural Choice for Your Home', a glossy 8-page brochure aimed at homebuyers. Lavishly illustrated and with a modern design, the aim is for the brochure to be displayed in showhomes across the country.

The BWF publication stresses that modern timber windows are highly engineered products that not only look and feel good, but are easily capable of lasting for many decades with only minimal maintenance. Buyers are reminded that today's timber windows are guaranteed against decay and fungal attack for 30 years and, with the proper minimal maintenance, should last much longer than that. Thanks to modern coating systems, they also need no re-coating for a minimum of five years if stained and eight years if painted. When it does come io re-painting, all that is required is a quick rub down with very light sandpaper and one coat of paint, with no scraping or burning off old coatings required.

Two New BWF Machine Safety Guides

The British Woodworking Federation has extended its series of Machine Safety Cards with Number 11 covering ‘Safe Use of Double End Tenoning Machines’ and Number 12 entitled ’Safe Use of Boring Machines’.

No 11 will act as a constant reminder that only trained and authorised employees should operate the machine, which is typically used in the production of square-shouldered tenons, stepped shouldered and scribed tenons and profiled panel products. It emphasises that all guards and safety devices must be fitted and adjusted before start up and that any defect must be reported at once to a supervisor.

Procedures detailed in the new No 12 guide include fitting and adjusting guards, reporting any defects to a supervisor, clamping components securely, not leaving the machine unattended, the use of braking devices and ensuring that foot-operated machines incorporate all necessary safety equipment such as a shrouded operating pedal.
