Mighton Helps Fundraising

The annual GM Fundraising Gala Dinner, held to raise funds for terminally ill children and their families, is being supported by Mighton Products, the sash window hardware specialist, this year.

Gary Morton, Chairman of GM Fundraising, explains why donations are so important: ‘Most hospices providing palliative care receive very little funding from the health service. So it's important to keep fundraising on their behalf to ensure that the best care is given when it's most needed. Mighton Products has generously donated a week's holiday at an exclusive Villa in Tobago as the star prize for the auction being held at the Gala Dinner. It's a five star residence and past guests have included pop stars and celebrities. So I'm confident, that with such a great prize, we will generate a lot of interest and raise a lot of money.’

The Gala Dinner takes place on the 17th June at The Palace Hotel, Manchester.

Conservatory Outlet Supports India's Budding Artists

Children in India are brushing up on their art skills thanks to a donation from Conservatory Outlet. During their recent visit to the Children's Village near Guntur to open the Conservatory Outlet boys' dormitory Matthew and Andrew Glover donated £100 to UK-based charity Health and Education for All (HEAL) so they could buy art easels for children living in the village.

‘The children living at the orphanage are very underprivileged and wouldn't normally have access to this type of equipment,’ comments Matthew. ‘The children are getting a lot of enjoyment from painting so it shows that even a small amount of money goes a long way. During this year we hope to raise even more money for HEAL and we hope as many people as possible will support our fundraising events, which will include our charity ball in September.’

Securistyle Steps Up to Charity Marathon Challenge

Staff at Cheltenham-based window hardware manufacturer Securistyle are putting their best feet forward in a Marathon challenge in aid of a local cancer charity.

The team of 10 trained for the 18th Cobalt Relay Marathon Challenge on Sunday 7th May at Cirencester Park in which they competed against other teams to beat the time of the London Marathon winner. Each team member ran 2.6 miles.

Technical project engineer and team leader John Lambert, who has run the BUPA Great North Run in the past, says: 'We have developed a great team spirit and are looking forward to the challenge. We hope to raise at least £500 for this worthwhile cause and hope to complete the marathon in less than four hours.'

The firm, which is a manufacturer and supplier of window hardware products such as locks, handles and hinges, employs 320 people at its factory at Kingsmead Industrial Estate and has a turnover of more than £25 million.

The team, which comprises two women and eight men from the sales and marketing and technical departments has been sticking to a strict training schedule, usually in the evenings after work.

Cobalt Appeal Fund is a leading medical charity, which has played a major part with the NHS in establishing the Cheltenham Oncology Centre caring in particular for patients suffering from cancer throughout Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The charity aims to fund a £7 million state-of-the-art diagnostic centre at Linton House Clinic in Thirlestaine Road, Cheltenham, which will open its doors to its first patients later this year.

Kidnap Plot Promotes Elite 70

To promote sales of Spectus' easy-to-fabricate Elite 70 system and to mark 10 years in business, The Trade Plastics Centre (TPC), Stroud recently staged a charity open day at its Cheltenham store.

Part of the event involved a speed trial demonstrating how quick Elite 70 is to glaze, an event organised in conjunction with Spectus fabricator Indigo Products Ltd. However, the real headline grabber was the staged kidnap of customer 17 year-old Ashley Kirby of C&R Decorators, Cheltenham. Held 'against his will' by two stunning local models, Ashley's release was negotiated by his boss live on local radio station, Star FM.

The £50 ransom payment was donated to the Meningitis Trust along with £200 raised by the open day.

Says Richard Phelps of TPC: ‘The open day was a fantastic way of marking our 10th year in business and also getting customers along to look at the Elite 70 system.’

Spectus' Elite 70 is available in bevelled and ovolo versions complemented by a range of finishes and accessories.

Network VEKA High-Rollers Bring Luck for Cancer Research

Luck was on the side of Cancer Research UK when Network VEKA members tried their hand at the gambling tables.

The charity was chosen to receive £810 raised by more than 200 delegates and guests at a charity casino during the organisation's AGM evening entertainment.

Choice of charity went to VEKA plc National Sales Manager Colin Davidson as his prize for winning the Heads and Tails game.

Cancer Research UK Community Fundraiser Ruth Hardiman, left, received the cheque from Network VEKA's Susan Lunney, Shelley Crocombe and David Hartley.

This year's AGM, held at the National Motorcycle Museum on the eve of Glassex, was a special one for Network VEKA, marking both its tenth anniversary and the completion of its 100,000th installation. The organisation also used the event to announce its association with Steve Davis, the six-times World Snooker Champion who is to endorse the organisation in future advertising.

Conservatory Outlet Aims to Raise £10,000 for Children in India

Conservatory Outlet is once again teaming up with UK-based charity Health and Education for All (HEAL) to raise money for under privileged children in India.

Conservatory Outlet aims to raise £10,000 to educate 220 poor and very poor children in Hyderabad. The money will pay for teachers' wages, rent, rates, uniforms, and books. If enough money can be raised the school could also be moved to bigger premises. HEAL is a charity closely associated with Conservatory Outlet. In 2005 Conservatory Outlet raised £15,000 to build a boy's dormitory in nearby Guntur, India, and Managing Director Matthew Glover was appointed a Director of the charity.

‘The money we raise will help educate children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and who would not have access to this kind of education without HEAL's help,’ says Matthew. ‘We hope as many people as possible will support our fundraising events, which will include our charity ball.’

Palram: Helping those in Crisis at Christmas

Palram honoured the true spirit of Christmas this year helping the needy and the vulnerable, by offering free building materials desperately needed by the Crisis Open Christmas to renovate a disused building and create a safe haven for the homeless, at what can be a particularly lonely time for those without a home or family.

Palram in association with The Polyplastics Centre, Ponders End EW1 provided 54m2 of Opal and Bronze Sunlite multi-wall Polycarbonate sheets which were used as light diffusers at the shelter, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere for the hundreds of homeless people in London this Christmas.

Here's hoping that the shelter, which was also a gateway offering guests access to a wide range of services and learning and skills activities will have inspired them to positive engagement and a better life for 2006.

KAT UK Helps Protect Tigers with £3,735 Donation

KAT UK, the supplier of patio doors and vertical sliding sash windows, donated £3,735.20 during 2005 to Care for the Wild International (CWI) to aid the charity's work in protecting wild tigers.

KAT UK agreed to make a contribution to the charity for every unit it sold and will continue to support CWI throughout 2006.

Sales and marketing director at KAT UK, Paul Randall said: ‘We've used the tiger in our logo for almost eight years but regardless of that connection, we believe this is a worthwhile charity that undertakes extremely important work as there may be less than 5000 tigers left in the wild today.

‘Our donation will help Care for the Wild International protect wild tigers by funding equipment, manpower and extra support for forest guards - several of whom are killed each year by poachers.’

CWI has been working since 1995 to protect the tiger in India and has delivered over £200,000 to develop a variety of key projects.

Since it was founded, CWI has provided 35 vehicles for anti-poaching teams working in India's Tiger Reserves. Over £100,000 of equipment has been donated to date for the protection of the Bengal tiger including jeeps, motorcycles and motorboats, binoculars and cameras. CWI has also provided 192 forest guards in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve with insurance policies for life and sick cover. CWI was also first to address the world's biggest threat facing tigers today - wildlife trade involving Tibetans and other Himalayan communities - securing the support of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to act as a champion for wildlife protection.

Newstead Darts Fans Support Charity

To raise funds The Donna Louise Trust, Newstead Trade Frames ran an on-line auction of items donated by Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor.

The 12 times World Darts Champion signed several darts shirts, mousemats and flights when he officially opened Newstead's Building Plastics trade counter last year.

The auction took place on Ebay with darts fans able to log on to bid for their chosen item.

Duncan Maydew explains how Newstead came up with this latest idea to raise money: ‘Darts is a very popular sport in the company and we have already raised more than £1,200 for charity. Phil Taylor's gesture in letting us auction these signed items on Ebay received generous support from darts fans.’

The Donna Louise Trust which provides respite and palliative care for children is self-supported and depends on voluntary contributions like this from the public. Support from prominent companies like Newstead really makes a difference.

Glass UK Takes to the Road for Charity

Glass UK hopes to raise in excess of £2,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust after taking part in this year's Cannonball 8000 sponsored rally from London to Rome. Glass UK's Rod Milicevic and Neil Sharda took to the road in a powerful VW Golf R32 sporting the slogan 'avit large at Glass UK’, promoting the company's expertise in producing oversized glass units alongside other specialist glazing services. The intrepid team reached the finishing line in just 48 hours, reaching speeds of up to 165 mph - but only where legal, of course!

The Cannonball 8000 was set up in 2001 and captures the true spirit of the legendary runs across the United States in the '70s. This UK-based event attracts entrants from all walks of life with a taste for adventure. Glass UK has taken part for the last two years, raising over £5, 000 so far for children's charities, including Children with Leukaemia. ‘It's great fun and we get sponsorship from colleagues, customers, friends and relatives,’ explains Rod. It's not too late to make a donation for this year - send cheques made payable to 'Cystic Fibrosis Trust' to Rod at Glass UK.

After successfully completing this year's Cannonball 8000, Rod and Neil are already revving up for next year's run. Aimed at pushing drivers to the limit, the 2006 event to Budapest in September will cross five countries in less than 72 hours. ‘Sounds like it's going to be a really exciting way of raising much needed money to help improve the lives of sick children,’ says Rod.

There's a chance to see the Cannonballers in action on this year's trip to Rome when it's shown on ITV1 in December.
