Last Chance to get your Naked Charity Calendar

It's your last chance to get hold of Conservatory Outlet's charity 2007 calendar in aid of HEAL (Health and Education for All) charity. Conservatory Outlet staff have stripped bare to raise money that will be put towards providing homes, food, education and medical care to orphaned children in India.

Pictures feature staff from Conservatory Outlet's factory and dealer network carrying out various stages of construction of a conservatory in the buff. The calendar will help reach their £20,000 target for donations to HEAL.

Matthew Glover, Managing Director of Conservatory Outlet, comments: ‘Christmas is all about giving so why not give the woman in your life their ideal present and give money to charity at the same time!’

Email Matthew Glover on matthew@conservatoryoutlet.co.uk to purchase your copy of the naked calendar.

Synseal Gets in the Pink

The entire Synseal team got in the pink on Friday when it raised £608 for the Breast Cancer Campaign. Employees at the company made a massive effort and dressed up in pink for the occasion. The canteen sold out of pink fairy cakes made to support the charity - and it made 408! News of the day was reported on Radio Mansfield, and the photographer from the local paper took photos of everyone.

'The day has been a fantastic success,' says Sarah Newsome, Synseal's Communications Manager. 'It's been brilliant to see how much time and effort went into wearing pink, and that's reflected in the amount of money we raised.'

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Friday 27 was designated as Wear it Pink day. For more details about the charity www.wearitpink.co.uk.

Conservatory Outlet's 235 Mile Challenge for Charity

A group from Conservatory Outlet, the bolt-on brand for small to medium sized companies looking to add or increase sales in conservatories, has completed a demanding bike ride in aid of charity and raised nearly £7,000. Eight riders took part in the four day cycle ride which covered 235 miles and started at Conservatory Outlet dealer Evalast Windows in Barrow-in-Furness. The group also visited Conservatory Outlet dealers West Yorkshire Windows, Orion Windows, Visual Effect and Weatherglaze Windows before crossing the finishing line at Prime Windows in Sheffield.

The aim of the ride was to raise money for the UK-based charity Health and Education for All (HEAL), a charity closely associated with Conservatory Outlet. HEAL helps orphaned and underprivileged children in India gain essential skills and education as well as providing safe homes and healthcare. The group included Usha Koneru, who is the wife of HEAL's founder Dr Koneru Satya Prasad. The group covered an average of sixty miles a day riding through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.

Conservatory Outlet's Managing Director Matthew Glover comments: ‘This bike ride proved to be a challenge and was great fun. Parts of the route were gruelling but everybody who started crossed the finishing line. The money raised is in addition to the £12,800 we raised at our annual Charity Ball in September.’

Conservatory Outlet's naked charity calendar is on sale now for £7.99. To buy a copy email matthew@conservatoryoutlet.co.uk

‘Style-ish’ Golfers Raise £500 for CFSN Charity

In true sporting style, big hitting golfers from Windowstyle UK, part of the Style Group, the independent replacement window and door manufacturer and retailer, have raised £500 for the Cystinosis Family Support Network at their annual golf challenge.

The golfers were so impressed by the reported bravery and thoughtfulness of local Barnsley girl, Laura Herring, who despite suffering from the rare and chronic renal disease, cystinosis, has raised more than £5,000 herself for the Charity. As a result they decided to make a special effort at their annual company golf day challenge staged at the Forest Pines Golf Club at Scunthorpe. Staff and suppliers alike chipped in to support Laura and her special cause.

From its state-of-the-art factory at Wombwell, near Barnsley, Windowstyle UK is the area's largest single employer producing up to 10,000 quality-assured frames per week. It is part of the Style Group which includes Windowstyle UK, the manufacturing arm, Safestyle UK, the retail side which is renowned for its celebrity-fronted television and radio advertising campaigns, and Tradestyle UK to serve the trade.

Style Group Director Nick Lilburn commented: ‘Having met Laura recently and wanting to support a local cause, we instantly felt that for one so young who has suffered so much she is extremely impressive in desire and attitude. We hope in our own small way our donation will help in the on-going battle to fight this disease.’

Despite facing a kidney transplant in the near future, 12-year-old Laura, from nearby Dodworth, is a recent winner of the Sheffield Star Superkids award for fundraising and is determined to help others and other families in a similar predicament.

Laura commented: ‘To receive a donation is nice as normally I have to do all the organising myself. So far I have tried a variety of different ways to raise much needed funds including selling specially designed wristbands and persuading family and friends to do a sponsored cycle ride and even to stop smoking. Every penny we raise goes towards making the lives of other youngsters like me and their families a little easier.’

Conservatory Outlet Raises £12,800 for Charity

Conservatory Outlet's annual Charity Ball has raised £12,800 for underprivileged children in India. The event, held at the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield on Saturday September 30th, was in aid of Health and Education for All (HEAL), a charity closely linked to Conservatory Outlet. HEAL helps orphaned and underprivileged children gain essential skills and education as well as providing safe homes and healthcare.

Naked men might not be your cup of tea, but there were plenty of women in the audience who appreciated the boys' bodies! Copies of the calendar sold like hot cakes, and not one woman left the ball without a personal copy. The signed copy raised even more money in the auction - it sold for a whopping £160!

The evening, which was attended by 170 people and hosted by former Leeds United footballer John Stiles, included an auction with lots including a signed Ronaldo football shirt, a Ferrari poster signed by seven time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher and a house full of windows. Managing Director Matthew Glover comments: ‘The evening was a great success and I am delighted that so many people decided to support this worthy cause by attending the ball. Every penny raised at the event will help children supported by HEAL.’

Advantage Supports Breakthrough Charity Walk

Danny Hague, Group Commercial Director of Cheshire-based trade fabricator, Advantage Windows and Conservatories Ltd, has given his full support to the Aviva Breakthrough Weekend. He has raised over a thousand pounds through the support of Advantage's customers and suppliers.

Six years ago Danny's sister in law Janice was diagnosed with breast cancer. In September she, along with thousands of others, is taking part in the 60 km 'breakthrough for breast cancer walk' - taking place over the weekend of September 23rd and 24th in Birmingham.

Every month 1,000 women die from breast cancer in the UK and it is estimated that this terrible disease affects one in 9 of all women. Each walker has to raise a minimum of £1,500 from sponsorship to take part in the walk and all of the funds are committed to fighting the disease through research and awareness. In partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research, 'breakthrough for breast cancer' has set up the first dedicated breast cancer research centre.

'CAB's Support for the Bewick's Swan'

The Council for Aluminium in Building have donated proceeds from their recent AGM charity raffle to the Slimbridge based Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust which is close to the CAB offices in Stonehouse. During a short presentation, a cheque for £1000 was handed over to Lady Philippa Scott by David Earle, CAB's Technical Officer. Founded in 1946 by the artist and naturalist Sir Peter Scott, The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the UK's only specialist wetland conservation charity with a national network of wetland visitor centres.

The CAB donation is to go towards further research into the 'Berwick's Swan Survival Study'. In the mid 20th century, the number of Bewick's Swans in the Northwest European population (including those wintering in Britain) was very low. Population size was estimated at around 10,000 swans in the mid 1970s, rising to 17,000 by the early 1980s and peaking at around 29,000 in 1995. Since then numbers have shown a worrying decline. International censuses found that there were 5% fewer Bewick's Swans in Britain and Ireland in 2005 than in 2000. Declines have also been noted in other parts of Europe since the mid 1990s, particularly in the swans' stronghold in the Netherlands.

Swans revisit their breeding grounds every year and are identified by their unique beak markings, these are hand drawn at Slimbridge and held in a register where the swan is also named. Swans offspring are also recorded and several generations of families have been recorded returning to Slimbridge. The CAB hopes the funds given will help to understand the reasons for the dwindling numbers of this species and hopefully help to increase numbers worldwide. Further information about the activities of the CAB can be found on the CAB website at www.c-a-b.org.uk and in the CAB's free monthly industry newsletter which can be seen at www.aluminiuminarchitecture.com

Alcoa Foundation and Mercy Ships Partner in New Youth Health Centre in Ghana

Alcoa Foundation announced on 16th August $68,000 funding for Mercy Ships creation of a new youth health and recreation centre in Ashaiman, Ghana, a sub district of the Tema municipality in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Mercy Ships, a global charity, is the leader in using hospital ships to deliver free world-class health care and community development services to the forgotten poor.

Alcoa Foundation is working in partnership with Mercy Ships and Ghana Health Services, the Ghana government health agency, to establish the new centre. Alcoa Foundation funding will support Mercy Ships, who will manage the construction of the centre and equip the centre, which will be staffed and managed by Ghana Health Services.

'We are thankful for Alcoa Foundation involvement in the development of this multi-purpose facility to create an enabling environment for youth, health and development within Ashaiman,' said Dr. Glenn Strauss, vice president International Programs for Mercy Ships.

The new centre will be constructed on land adjacent to an existing small clinic in Ashaiman, which has not expanded to meet the needs of the growing population and is limited in services. 'The needs and services required by the youth of Ashaiman can't be met by the existing community health clinic,' Strauss said.

The planned youth-friendly centre will offer young people improved access to health facilities, raise health and hygiene awareness, provide family planning and consultation services, and a recreational unit. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

'This new centre will address some of the critical needs of the youth in the community and create an environment where they are encouraged to access healthcare and support services relevant to their needs. It will be a welcoming place for them to meet and socialise in a safe environment,' said Meg McDonald, President of Alcoa Foundation.

Alcoa's presence in Ghana is through Volta Aluminum Company (Valco), a joint venture with the government of Ghana, and the Alcoa-Ghana Bauxite and Alumina Project. Valco provides aluminium ingot from its smelter in Tema to Alcoa customers around the world.

Mark's Doing it for the Kids

On Sunday 9th July 2006 Mark Moxon, Managing Director at Tradestyle, tested his endurance in a gruelling Triathlon.

In aid of the Baby Care Unit at Barnsley District General Hospital, Mark raced in the British National Middle Distance Championships at Belvoir Castle in Leicester (known as the Beaver). The race consists of 1.25-mile swim, 54-mile cycle and a 13.1-mile run.

The Baby Care Unit at Barnsley DGH was recently home to the granddaughter of a Tradestyle team member for a short time after her birth, and with Mark's daughter ready to go into labour any time soon, the cause is close to everyone's heart. Mark explains,

‘As one of the largest independent employers in the Barnsley area I wanted to do something to support the local community and to something everyone either has or will be affected by at some time in their lives.

‘The neonatal unit at Barnsley Hospital saves baby's lives everyday and is always appreciative for any donation no matter how big or small. A baby incubator alone costs over £20,000, which they just haven't got to hand. That's why they need our help.’

On a typical morning Mark gets up at 5am and cycles 20 miles or runs 6-10 miles before donning his suit for a long day in the office. This dedication and determination doesn't stop when he finishes his training session,

‘I apply the same commitment to my training as I do every day at work. I have a personal trainer to guide me with my fitness levels and getting me ready for events just like the one in Leicester. At Tradestyle Dave Evans, Sales Director, is like my works personal trainer. We have the same ideals and drive to progress and get stronger.’

‘These standards then filter down to the Area Sales Managers and to the office team, so each and everyone of us are preparing and devoted to the same result.’

Mark and the Tradestyle team's dedication is clearly evident. Output per Area Sales Manager is up by 100%. The reason for this is Tradestyle support their clients and feels communication is key. New Initiatives were introduced at the beginning of 2006 to ensure all customers are provided a personal service. All aspect of their order and delivery are communicated to them every step of the way.

After the launch of the online ordering system, Tradestyle customers now receive in-house training and continuous support is available to ensure clients feel happy and confident in using the system to estimate and order.

Mark explains:
‘We understand our customer needs and complement this with the support we provide. We are always on hand to listen to our clients for whatever they require.’
