Unitecs
Golf Safari
In
glorious sunshine and in a scene reminiscent of a mini safari, a convoy
of over fifty motorised buggies weaved their way onto the famous Nicklaus
Course at the DeVere Carden Park, Cheshire, ready for a shotgun start
in this years Unitec Charity Golf
Challenge.

With
twenty-seven teams taking part, the Unitec Hardware golf day ranks as
one of the industries premier sporting events. Following a Le-Man style
start up, Phil Moulds, Unitecs Managing Director, led out a prestige
field of customers and suppliers for this, the companys 9th annual
charity golf tournament.
On finishing the course a jubilant Phil commented This is our
first time at Carden Park, but based on the many positive comments from
the other golfers, I am sure it wont be the last. The course itself
was in superb condition and whilst it looked like a simple walk in the
park, the layout ensured that every hole was a real head scratching
challenge'.
In addition to a host of on course prizes to be won, including a Mini
Cooper on the hole-in-one, numerous sponsors generously supported the
event, which culminated with an after dinner auction. This included
advertising space donated by industry magazines, Glass and Glazing Products,
Glass Age and Fenestra Journal and courtesy of Glassex organisers EMAP,
a stand for the 2004 exhibition. The event was an overwhelming success
and raised £6500 for the Downs Syndrome Childrens
Charity.

Float
Glass Industries Customer Day - a Success in One!
A
big 'Thank You' to key customers and suppliers for their support and
patronage over the years was the main reason behind The Float Glass
Industries (FGI) inaugural Golf Day. Deemed a tremendous success
by all who attended, the event took place at the Marriot Worsley Park
Hotel & Country Club on 18 September. Non golfers were not forgotten
and participated in a range of exciting activities including Reverse-Steer
4x4 Driving and Crossbow Archery.
Golf Pro, David Screeton, hosted the after dinner prize ceremony where
Atul Patel of All In One Windows was particularly congratulated for
achieving the highest individual score of a fantastic 48 playing off
a handicap of 15. It was a good days golf for Atul who was also
part of the Stableford winning team which included Chris Matthews of
Glass Link, Eddie ONeil of EJ Electrical and FGIs own Mike
Thompson.
Winners of the non-golfing activities were Rob White and Neil Butler
from BGGS.
FGI held an Open House the next day, inviting customers to see first
hand the new Tamglass ProConvection toughening system up and running
to schedule and new efficient factory layout, as well as the companys
recently relocated dedicated glass processing division.
'As one of the FGI golfers, which included most Offland family golfers
not least Chairman, Roy Offland, and past Chairmam, Ken Offland, I can
safely say we all enjoyed excellent company and great golf,' commented
Joint Managing Director, David Offland. 'The day allowed us to demonstrate
our appreciation to valued customers, suppliers and industry friends,
many of whom have been with us for many years, indeed decades, and we
look forward to continued good business relationships. The Open House
event also proved very popular and presented the ideal opportunity to
show customers around our newly refurbished operation.

Synseal
Customer Hits Hole-in-One for Charity
Steve
Judge, partner of Synseal fabricator
Shield Conservatories Ltd, won a car with three friends after taking
part in Oldham Athletic Golf Classic tournament. The golfers meet once
a week for a round together so in true team spirit, on hitting a hole
in one, Joe Shammah, a solicitor, insisted it was a team effort.
It was as a team they decided to give the prize away to the St Francis
Hospice in Manchester, which cares for terminally ill children.
When the sponsors of the Hole in One, Lookers of Oldham,
heard about the plans for donating the prize they upgraded the car to
a five-door saloon to make it easier to transport the children.

Alternative
Win for The 4th annual Jotika Golf Day
Now
a firm fixture in the Glazing industry events calendar, The 4th annual
Jotika Golf Day was held last Friday, 13th June a date that offered
a great excuse for having a bad round! Despite which, the overall standard
of play was excellent, even from the novices, and there were some very
close scores.

Darren
Pratt won with a 43, while the Winning Team was CDM
Overall Winner was Darren Pratt of Alternative Windows with a Stableford
score of 43, and who also came first in the 0-18 Handicap. The 19-28
Handicap was won by Anita Day of AG Glass with a score of 40.
The Winning Team was CDM, which comprised brothers Jim and Dave Warburton,
Jim Jellicoe of Promac, and Andy Priestly of Glass & Glazing Products.
The Brownhills Glass team came in 2nd with a score of 84, and snapping
at their heels in 3rd place was Alternative Windows with 83.
Other
prizes were:
Nearest the Pin, won by Andy Priestly of Glass & Glazing Products;
Longest Drive was Stephen Holden of HW Glass; Most Improved golfer was
Jerry Hawthorne of Darby Glass; Best Excuse of the Day (we kept the
award despite the date!) was from Phil Manley, also of Darby Glass,
who 'didnt know there was any water there'.
Best Gross Score was Jim Jellicoe of Promac, who we think is going to
be the one to watch at Mike Greys Fun Charity Golf Day held in
July, as Jim says he is now going for the hat trick of winning
the three major industry golf tournaments in a row.
Winner of this years Media Challenge trophy, sponsored by Austen
Harlow Flitter PR for the best scoring Glass Industry Media player,
was The Glazines own Norman Setra with an excellent score of 33
that saw off the competition (pictured left).
The event also raised over two hundred Pounds for the Air Ambulance
service, which was raised by taking a £5 bet from each player
at the 6th hole to see if they could get on to the green in one. Were
pleased to say that every player that did achieve the feat, immediately
returned their 'stake' to this worthy cause.
The scores were compiled by the specially written piece of Jotika software
that enables Stableford computations to be made as easily and as rapidly
as individual scores are entered in to the laptop computer from the
players scorecard. Jotika will be pleased to give this software
away completely free of charge to any industry golf tournament provided
there is a benefit to charity from the occasion.

- to the charity PACT (Parents' Association of Children with Tumours
and leukaemia), based at Sheffield Children's Hospital.
PACT
was established 25 years ago, with the aim of providing relief and support
for children in the care of Sheffield Children's Paediatric Oncology
and Haematology Unit, and to help with the continued care of children
following treatment. The charity funds a "Home from Home"
just a few hundred yards from the hospital, a refurbished house which
is not only a refuge for children receiving and recovering from treatment,
but also offers parents and siblings the opportunity to stay with or
near the children, providing vital support to families in stressful

Premier
Profiles' donation will be put towards the ongoing upkeep of the PACT
Home from Home. Managing director Paul Dickins and commercial director
David Mulholland visited the house in person to present the cheque to
PACT co-ordinator Beryl Welburn and house manager Sheila Jackson. Beryl
commented: "The PACT Home From Home has been open for over ten
years now, and is absolutely essential to the well-being of children
receiving treatment at the hospital, and their families. We are very
grateful to Premier Profiles for their contribution towards the ongoing
running costs of the house, which will enable us to continue offering
children and their families much-needed support."
Paul
Dickins added: "I would like to thank all the customers, suppliers
and employees who supported our Golf Day and enabled us to raise over
£7,400 for such a worthy cause. It was remarkable to see the effort
and enthusiasm that PACT puts into caring for poorly children and their
families, and we are delighted that our contribution will help, in however
small a way, to continue such admirable work."
