Introducing TEN Human Resources, Launched
by Industry Specialist Bill Pratt...
With 15 years industry experience Bill Pratt is a specialist in his field
and less than a year after setting up his own recruitment consultancy
in the window industry, TEN Human Resources is starring to make its mark.
TEN concentrates on all aspects of the industry and at all job levels,
from sales representatives to senior management and Board levels throughout
the UK Offering a bespoke service tailored to the needs of clients, Bill
has his own views on the current job market and recruitment selection.
'It
may be obvious to say that recruitment is a people game, however it is
incredible that so many companies lose sight of the fact that it is the
quality of the people they employ that determines the long term success
of their business' says Bill. 'If you profess to be a specialist in recruitment,
surely you must have to have knowledge of the market you are specialising
in! You have to have real front end experience.'
'But just where do you find the good people who can help you to achieve
your aims? And who do you to turn to find that next National sales manager
or Managing Director.'
'I believe there is too much emphasis placed on strict criteria with regard
to any given vacancy. Being too specific can often eliminate a high quality
candidate - it's a people business. Personalities are important and people
buy from people they trust, and although job specifications are important
and define the requirements, it's not about a ten-page CV, but a question
of being in front of people and selling yourself on your own merits.'
'Today's market is extremely competitive. Margins are lower, yet you still
need to generate profitable business. Latest trends indicate that identifying
quality individuals is the greatest challenge - self-belief is vital.
So many people in this industry could achieve more if they had greater
self-belief.'
'It is easy to become closeted, accepting your lot, assuming that you
are not good enough to climb further up the ladder. Quality individuals
are hard to find in any industry, but they are out there! If they have
self-belief and a desire to realise their full potential they will come
to the surface. These people are the future of our industry.'
According
to Bill, there's been a big shift in general industry attitudes. Traditionally,
sales staff working for machinery suppliers were considered to the top
earners. A profile sales person, for example, can earn a significant overall
package if he or she can genuinely generate new profitable business. The
same could he said in trade frame or the new build market.
Other suppliers have now caught up, and to the extent that they realise
the top performers achieving top results expect top money. Naturally.
'Consequently.' says Bill, 'If people take time to evaluate their current
circumstances then maybe there are better opportunities out there. Certainly
in my view, the top organisations with well-managed overheads are still
making very acceptable profits covering all sectors of the industry.
'It is these companies that are very often actively recruiting. I have
an open brief with a number of clients who say: 'Find the right people
and we will create the position.' It is these companies that are strong
and profitable and they will take the industry forward. Would you like
to work for one of them?'
And for those who are still hesitating Bill has these parting words: 'If
you have any concerns about make making that initial move in their next
career step, remember that confidentiality is key. It's our business!'
