David
Carrick is Laid to Rest with Cavalcade of 75 Harley D's
The
funeral of David Carrick of J Preedy and Sons Limited, took place at Randalls
Park Crematorium, Leatherhead on Monday 14th April 2003 at 4.30pm in celebration
of his life.
The hearse turning into the cemetery flanked by a police escort, and seventy-five
Harley Davidson motorbikes, was certainly something that will stay in
the memory. The crematorium was full to capacity, and the hour-long service
paid tribute to Davids many talents. People had flown in from different
parts of Europe to pay their respects to David who was very well liked
by all who knew him.
Graham
Preedy of Preedy Glass recalled how David had started at the company 25
years ago as a surveyor, and how his role had evolved into becoming the
General Manager of Prefit, Preedys ironmongery division, when it
opened its branch in Park Royal two years ago.
He paid tribute to Davids loyalty, and hardwork for the company,
and thanked Linda for her work behind the scenes supporting David at the
numerous glass and fittings exhibitions he attended.
The scouts were out in number, and Tony Edwards recollected stories of
camping adventures spent with David, and how he had been awarded the chief
medal for Scouting.
A tribute was paid by John Fisher, representing the local Harley Davidson
club, which David and Linda had joined three years ago, and he spoke of
all the enjoyable weekends, and holidays that they had all gone on together.
A letter to David, written by his wife Linda, expressing her love for
him was read out, and moved all who heard it. A solo was sung, and Ivan
Gideon played the Last Post.
After the service, everyone then gathered at The Star Public House in
Chessington, for some drink and food, and many fond recollections of their
memories with David.
What came out of all the tributes was that David was a fun loving, loyal
and kind person, who would always be thinking of others before himself,
and would do anything for anyone if asked.
He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him, and our heartfelt
sympathy is sent to Linda, whom David loved very much.

Some
other recollections:
David
was a good friend and a well respected through out our industry. Someone
who understood the glass and glazing world, a true professional and good
to be around. We have had many good times together exchanging stories,
fun with our motorbikes and working together. David will be sorely missed
by me and every one who had the opportunity to meet and work with him.
I would like to send my Love and deepest sympathy to Linda at this most
difficult time.

I
was deeply shocked to hear of David's death. I have, in one way or another,
attended the Glassex Exhibition for many years. The one endearing factor
was that David always made an effort to say hello, event though we had
no real direct association in business. Sure, we had some mutual interests
but David always helped everyone without bias. He will always be remembered
as a good friend to me.
My condolences go to his family and everyone who knew David.
God Bless

Glassex
will not be the same without a smile and a wave from David as I whizz
past his stand at least 10 times a day followed later by a chat and more
leisurely drink or two courtesy of Glass Age or The Glazine. One particular
memory is the very enjoyable dinner hosted by Glass Age at Nailcote Manor
a couple of years ago where his wit and humour as always were infectious.
And, he was one of very few people who got away with calling me 'Little
Les'!
