Synseal Adds Glob-AL Aluminium Top Caps in White: Stand B070

The latest addition from Synseal is glob-AL, aluminium top caps, and like all Synseal's roof kits, glob-AL is available in just three days from order to delivery.

While the majority of conservatory installers use PVC, some sections of the market have always preferred aluminium top cappings. This part of the industry has not benefited from the continual innovation of PVC-U roof systems, but glob-AL gives customers the latest technology in aluminium. The new top caps have a white 70 micron polyester gloss, powder coat finish, and are available now.

Aluminium top caps are not new to Synseal, for three years they have been available in woodgrain finishes. 'We have listened to customers who said they liked working with aluminium, but wanted it for white conservatories too.

'No other roof system gives installers a choice between aluminium and PVC-U, but now Synseal customers can make the decision. And because it's global, of course, it is quick and easy to install. Only having one top cap on glazing bars speeds up installation, and the internal concealed gaskets mean there are no unsightly black lines around the roof glass.'

Synseal says that it has become the number once choice in conservatories by listening to what customers want. 'Adding aluminium top caps gives installers the choice of materials to keep them ahead in the market'.

Edgetech to Launch Simulated Divided Light: Stand G120

Warm edge specialist Edgetech will be launching its new Simulated Divided Light (SDL) at Glassex. Designed for the growing astragal bar market, the SDL is a no-metal structural foam system designed to give the appearance of individual panes of glass within a sealed unit and provide a warm edge solution as a replacement for standard metal duplex or integral bars. Unlike standard aluminium products, SDL allows for compression of the sealed unit caused by temperature changes and virtually eliminates the risk of stress cracks normally associated with rigid bars.

SDL's unique patented fixing system also cuts wastage and problem call backs by ensuring accurate placement which prevents operator error when jointing to the spacer bar. The SDL system can be used on manual or automated manufacturing lines and greatly reduces production time. SDL also uses tried and tested Super Spacer technology to dramatically reduce condensation.

Edgetech's Managing Director Andy Jones comments: ‘We are delighted to be launching our Simulated Divided Light at Glassex. Manufacturers, fabricators and installers will be able to see the benefits it offers and the difference it makes when used in sealed units. Unlike metal bars, SDL reflects the colour of the frame to enhance the traditional aesthetics of the window so manufacturers and fabricators can now offer a thermally efficient, high performance, aesthetically pleasing traditional style window’.

SDL can be seen on Edgetech's 'Taking the Stress out of window energy ratings' stand at Glassex, no. G120, Hall 17.

Edgetech and Pilkington Launch WER: DIY (Edgetech: Stand G120)

Two of the leading campaigners for energy efficient windows in the UK, Edgetech and Pilkington, announce the launch of the most comprehensive, independent study into UK Window Energy Ratings (WER) to date.

Incorporating information on almost every system, profile, glass, spacer and component that can potentially make up a window, the WER assessment calculator includes almost 8000 simulations covering every possible permutation, focussing on different glazing & warm edge technology performances. Whilst not an official BFRC simulation, the information resulting gives a very accurate guide to the likely rating achievable.

Andy Jones, Managing Director of Edgetech UK, comments: 'We have chosen the name WER:DIY to market this study because it’s a fantastic self-assessment guide for any fabricator who wants to see for themselves what WER band their window can achieve. The WER:DIY is a free and easy service that allows fabricators of almost any PVC-U system to see in a minute how their individual windows perform against the BFRC ratings. Visitors to our Glassex stand can even enjoy a professional massage while their window specification is simulated.'

Andy McDowell, Float & Coated Products Manager for Pilkington adds: 'BFRC Window Energy Ratings (WERs) have taken the UK and Ireland fenestration industry by storm over the past 12 months. With interest increasing still further, this new tool is a unique guide for unit processors and window fabricators/installers alike, allowing a range of possible WER options to be evaluated in real time, without incurring excessive costs. Now its even quicker and easier to see the benefits of Pilkington K GlassTM in energy-rated windows.

Andy Jones continues: 'The WER:DIY is just part of Edgetech’s ambitious drive during 2007 to help companies along the entire supply chain in a practical way to benefit from WERs; from advising fabricators who want to carry the label on their window, helping sealed unit manufacturers who want to achieve EN1279 Parts 2 and 3, putting installers in touch with ESR suppliers, to educating home owners on the ESR scheme with our ‘Windows that won’t cost the Earth’ DVD.'

Anyone interested in knowing how their window performs, or has any other questions relating to energy efficiency in windows, is invited to visit Edgetech’s ‘Taking the Stress out of window energy ratings’ stand at Glassex, no. G120, Hall 1.

Further information on glass and glazing options can be found via the web : http://www.pilkington.co.uk/WERs, email : Pilkington@respond.uk.com or by phone on 01744 692000.

'Installers can play the DVD to homeowners when visiting them in their homes, or have it on display in their showrooms. Either way it shows their window is different which not only helps get the sale, but also achieves a premium for their products.

Cervo Solar Clear: Stand D060

For Cervoglass, the conservatory glass roof manufacturer, Glassex will once again provide the perfect arena for a new product to be unveiled. ‘Cervo Solar Clear’ is a new glass that is suitable for side frame glazing and will offer installers the ability to provide complete thermal solutions for conservatory installations.

Additionally, vistors to Stand D 060 will be invited to take part in a competition to be run during the exhibition, where a conservatory glass roof worth £1,000 could be won. The Cervoglass team are offering an open invitation to those visiting the stand to join them at the 'Glass To Glass' Bar for a free drink in an informal and friendly environment.

‘We will be demonstrating our leading market position on a visually dynamic stand with a modern, predominantly all glass exhibit that will clearly display the superiority of the Cervoglass brand,’ said the company.

‘Last year Glassex proved a phenomenal success story for the company that is statistically placed as one of the leading Pilkinton Activ Blue customers. A massive escalation in demand for quality performance glass for conservatories has arisen through the recognition of more discerning consumers. Consequently the Cervoglass range is firmly established as having many advantages over competitors with the new generation glass range offering superior performance levels to other alternatives.

‘Cervoglass will demonstrate how the brand surpasses other conservatory glass roof options with the obvious performance benefits being highlighted as well as the superior support services available that have helped to establish the company as a primary industry innovator.’

After the launch of the Cervo Activ Blue and Cervo Sol Plus ranges at the exhibition last year sales have continued to increase at a steady pace for the Liverpool based company.

‘With solar control and self cleaning properties proving so successful Cervoglass will demonstrate how glass for conservatory roofs combines technical superiority with aesthetics that are unmatched in the industry which is clearly defined by the continual upward trend in orders placed with the company.’

‘Focus will be placed on additional key benefits available from the company at the show, including the large delivery fleet that delivers nationally, direct to customers or to factories, within 5-7 working days. The flexibility of in-house manufacturing and the superior support services provided by the Cervoglass team combined with choice, quality, production control, reliability and progressive attitude continues to place Cervoglass ahead of competitors within the conservatory roof glass industry.’

Graham Price, Managing Director comments, ‘Glassex proved such a success for Cervoglass last year we felt it was an important arena to help introduce additions to the range and highlight the changes, developments and progression of the firm. The exhibition helped to firmly establish our products and we feel sure with the additional improvements taking place at Cervoglass that exhibiting this year will greatly assist in further confirming our leading market position.’

Cervoglass will be demonstrating the latest information on new generation glass on stand D060. For more information on the Cervoglass range please call 0151 522 6604 or alternatively visit the website http://www.cervoglass.co.uk.

Lift & Lock Installer Programme: Stand D130

A new company has been launched to recruit and oversee quality installers of the new, recently launched security handle from Lift & Lock.

Lockguard Security Handle Ltd will manage the nationwide recruitment and appointment of registered and approved installers to provide, principally, the retrofitting of the armoured versions of the Lift & Lock security handle and is showing the new system for the first time at Glassex (Stand No D130).

At this moment, more than 30 qualified companies have approached the company ahead of the formal launch and this number will rise dramatically in coming weeks as advertising and other promotional activities take place.

Proving a complete answer to the security problems of 'cylinder snap' and 'cylinder pull' that make millions of homes vulnerable to burglars, the product range, being marketed as 'The Lockguard Security Handle' can be retrofitted to almost all door locks that have been installed in the last 25 years. The product incorporates a universal fitting system that incorporates a sliding keyway accommodating cylinder centres between 68 and 92-mm.

Lockguard approved and registered installers will also have access to other models in the Lift & Lock range in order to provide a comprehensive 'complete house' customer service, including internal locking and non-locking door handles to give a cohesive, unified appearance throughout the home.

However, the emphasis is on the high security retrofitting range initially which meets the highest Grade 4 level and the soon-to-be-harmonised European thief-resistant codes - a first in the UK. All products comply with BS/EN 1906, PAS 24, EN 1627-30, SS306, CDTM 02 and meet guidelines laid down by both the police and fire authorities.

Yale Home Security Solutions: Stand E030

One of the world's leading names in home security has confirmed its attendance at Glassex 2007.

Yale UK, part of the Stockholm-based Assa Abloy Group, will be showcasing its new range of multipoint locking solutions for the first time at the Birmingham exhibition.

And the lock company has plenty to talk about, with its comprehensive range of bespoke locking products, suitable for uPVC, timber, composite and aluminium doors, its range of services and its Extended Range of home security initiatives. With this complete package of services and solutions, Yale really is taking things to the next level.

Among the new product offerings being launched for the first time at Glassex is the Yale Asgard PAS 023/024 range of Composite Door Locking Solutions. Fully flexible, the range of stainless steel locks and keeps offers durability and first class security.

Also on show for the first time is the high security PAS 023/024 compliant Yale Asgard Slave Door Solution for use on PVC French Doors. This lock works in conjunction with two high security shoot-bolts, top and bottom, for improved strength, overcoming some of the problems traditionally associated with slave door locking products.

Yale's comprehensive range of multipoint locking products also comes complete with an offering of fully adjustable High Security Dynamic Hinges for rebated doors and its brand new range of Top-Turn Reversible Hinges, which are tested to BS7950, and are suitable for uPVC, aluminium and timber windows.

Yale's customers wouldn't expect to visit the companys stand without seeing the long-established high security G2000 product range, which is fully flexible, with products to meet a range of requirements set down by uPVC and aluminium door manufacturers. Customers also have an extensive choice of Yale branded handles and cylinders to choose from.

Something they won't expect to see, however, is Yale's new Extended Range of home security options including a home CCTV system which utilises the latest in wirefree and digital recording technology, which was previously only available to the professional market.

The new SVS1100 CCTV system from Yale is a 'one-box' solution to the complex world of CCTV, and is extremely quick and easy to install and operate, as well as being cost-effective.

The Extended Range offering also includes Yale's Wirefree Alarms which have seen a complete revamp, with improved ease of installation and a sleeker and glossier new look. The new circular bell box and PIRs complement Yale's brand identity. Other products within the range include smoke detector, flood detector, telecommunicating control panel, web-based control panel and remote control.

Completing the ‘one-stop’ package is the Yale Installer Scheme which was re-launched to the industry last year. Sarah Massey, Marketing Manager explains: ‘We talked to our fabricator and installer customers and, following their advice, developed a Scheme that we felt would boost business for our Multipoint customers.

‘With benefits such as website access, a host of product literature, branded merchandise and ready-made artwork for press advertisements, customers can buy into the selling power of the Yale brand - a brand which has 98% recognition and is associated across the world with trust, reliability and value. This level of recognition is what will distinguish our Installer Scheme members from their competitors.’

To talk to Yale about the Installer Scheme, their Extended Range offering, or any of its other products and services, visit the company at Glassex on stand E030.

Force 8 Tightens its Grip: Stand D002

Force 8, the UK window and door manufacturer, noticed that one of the problems with arched French doors, was the distance between the hinge at the side, and the shoot bolt at the top, which can be over a metre.

With no fitting along the arch, misalignment would happen, causing gaps. Without an unbroken seal round the doors the weather could instigate problems and it could also hinder security.

The new concept developed by Force 8 is to use a tilt and turn espagnolet, which spans the gap by following the curve. This means that when the door is closed, it is pulled in at the top and along the curve, creating a perfect weather proof seal.

Force 8 has also adapted this for the single arched door, which can also suffer from the same problems. The arched doors themselves are made from a single piece of profile which is unique to Force 8, using its own specially developed bending techniques.

Managing Director, Dennis Sumner commented: ‘We are constantly striving to improve our product range, and as far as we know we are the only company in the UK with this system, Force 8 can also offer this new innovation in a fast seven day turn around, and provide glass sizes within 24 hours’.

Force 8 Fabrications is a family-owned and operated business, which manufactures and supplies windows, doors and conservatories to installers and fabricators all over Europe.

Its extensive product portfolio includes a range of design variations to meet every requirement, including arched and unusually shaped styles.

Composite Doors with Distinction: Stand C096

'Composite doors are simple to manufacture, are simple to install, are cost effective, trouble free and bring substantial rewards’ - that's the message from Drew Wright, sales director of Distinction Doors Ltd. ‘Our goal is to supply a reliable, high specification product, supported by our expertise, ensuring that installers and fabricators gain entry to the retail composite market with ease’ continues Drew.

Determined to take up the challenges facing the retail market, the team at Distinction Doors ensures that everything possible is done to help fabricators and installers supply composite doors that compete in all areas with their pvc and timber counterparts.

As a totally independent distributor of fibreglass composite door panels, the company holds a huge stock of door leafs in over 130 variations of style and colour, including mahogany and oak grained finishes. ‘With detailed historical sales data, we are able to monitor the popularity of designs and colours, which allows us to maintain the right stocking levels to provide short lead times and help fabricators to market the right product range right from the start’ explains Drew. ‘This is just a small part of a dedicated service offered to fabricators, created to provide solid support and offer various routes to enter the composite market with confidence.’

The service also includes sound advice from Distinction's Technical experts on how best to make the minimal changes to door production lines as well as comprehensive training on how to cut to size, route and finish the door leaf. And as Drew points out, ‘with all the major system companies now offering a standard rebated outer frame for 44mm, fabricators are able to integrate the door into their production facilities without any problem. There are many fabricators that just hate the thought of any production change over, so at Distinction we go one step further by offering fabricators contact with experienced producers who can fulfil a prepping service, either before a fabricator commences composite production or to help ease the way during the transition period.’

Manufactured by the Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, the high quality composite door panel supplied by Distinction Doors has proven popular with many of the leading names in composite door manufacture. ‘Once they've seen it a prospective customer has no doubt as to the quality and visual appeal’ enthuses Drew, ‘but the real selling points are those features which have been developed with Nan Ya specifically for the UK market and which are exclusive to us, making the finished door unique and, well, distinctive!’

Amongst these special features are three alternatives with which to cover the facing after the blank has been trimmed - a lock strip, an aluminium strip and a beading to match the door leaf, providing a perfect finish. A Distinction panel does not require any treatment following the cut-to-size process as engineered composite rails and stiles combine with the composite sub-frame, completely sealing and waterproofing the insulating core.

But it is a glazing cassette, actually designed by Drew in conjunction with Nan Ya, which has really made an impact on many door manufactures and installers. The cassette simply snaps together, eliminating the need for the traditional, but unsightly, plugs and screws. Through-coloured, like the Distinction door slab itself, the cassette also eliminates the lengthy lead times required for spray-painting in situations where the door has one colour on the internal face and another on the outer. What's more, the grain on the cassette matches perfectly with that of the door itself, providing an outstanding finished appearance, whilst making glazing a breeze.

‘Of course installers like the ease with which the door can be fitted too’ continues Drew. ‘Installation is fast and simple, providing great application flexibility, as the leaf can be fitted into a timber or PVC outer frame, making the door an installer's dream.’

With many years experience of the composite door market, Drew is well aware that consumers are constantly seeking higher quality and security for the entrance to their home, yet they are often talked out of purchasing a composite door because of lead times or perceived high prices. The Distinction Door product offers high impact resistant GRP skins, which are pre-pigmented and through coloured for scratch resistance, with a 45mm thick leaf for increased security. In addition, the compression moulded panel provides six times the insulation than an actual timber product and can be hand-stained to match PVC foils.

‘Our product is exceptional and available at affordable prices. At Distinction we put our money where our mouth is - every panel carries a 25 year structural warranty!’ exclaims Drew. ‘But it is our approach to service and support which will enable fabricators and installers, as well as the end user to reap the true benefits of the composite market.’

Elumatec Proves a Saw Point: Stand E070

Elumatec is providing visitors with an open and honest look into how its machinery works by exhibiting its unique five bladed sawing unit that is capable of accomplishing rapid cutting for all types of cuts, and its machining unit that has been designed to undertake precision routing at high speeds.

The SBZ 122 and the DS703 RTS Welder are also on display.

The stand is the perfect place to relax in comfy surroundings, whilst absorbing in the all important information and customer testimonials detailing each machine displayed, allowing visitors to take it all on board at a pace that suits them. Elumatec will be showcasing its latest range of newly developed consumables too.

Based in the North East of England, Peter Haney Windows Ltd specialises in the manufacture and fitting of PVCu windows and doors. Last year, the company took possession of an Elumatec SBZ610 profile centre with the specific aim of boosting the company's manufacturing capacity as well as reducing staffing costs. Six months on, and the managing director, Peter Haney is a very happy man.

‘This is the first time that we have used an Elumatec machine and so far, it has proved invaluable,’ he enthuses. ‘Not only has it substantially saved on labour costs with the machine doing the work of at least three people, we are also assured on a uniform and precise profile at all times. This obviously enhances our reputation for producing quality windows. Customer satisfaction is the key to our success! Since being established in 1988 we have been proud to manufacture and supply the very best in UPVC window, door and conservatory products. We serve a variety of domestic and trade customers across the North East with extremely high standards of workmanship and very competitive rates.’

A major factor in the specification of the Elumatec SBZ610 was its compactness of design. With limited space in the Consett factory, it fitted neatly and easily into the existing operational framework. ‘There was minimal disruption during the installation process,’ continues Peter Haney. ‘The operators were trained on the machine by Elumatec, and so far production of the profiles has progressed extremely smoothly. We are able to boost capacity and develop more business.
Moreover, the value for money that the machine represents is obvious. The SBZ610 has the ability to produce each profile systematically identical and to the highest possible quality standards, and we expect a very short payback from this investment thanks to its high performance and quality output.’

However, the new product that David Maybank believes will pull in Glassex visitors most is a series of stone pillars for use in conservatories. ‘There simply isn't anything else like these on the market at present,’ says David. ‘This will set any conservatory apart from the rest.’

HWL is also working hard to attract Glassex visitors by promoting its appearance at the show in every way possible, including using the show's online enquiry service as a link from its own website. ‘I think Glassex is going to be exciting this year, particularly with some of the bigger, blue-chip companies supporting the show once more,’ says David Maybank. ‘The Glassex team is certainly doing its best to create opportunities for exhibitors.
