Kyro's Safety Glass business secures contracts worth in excess of 15m Euros at Glasstec

Tamglass Ltd. Oy and Uniglass Engineering Oy of the Safety Glass Technology business area within the Kyro Group have contracted machinery deliveries worth approximately EUR 15 million in total.
The contracts were agreed during Glasstec 2002, which is the most significant biannual trade fair for the glass industry. The contracts made during the previous Glasstec in 2000 totalled EUR 12 million.
The contracts will be booked to the Safety Glass Technology business area's order backlog once down payments have been received. The contracted machines are for delivery in beginning of the next year, mainly to Europe, North America and Asia.

The contracts are for both architectural and automotive glass production lines. A significant amount of the contracts are for high capacity convection tempering lines for coated glass. In addition, significant contracts for bending and tempering machines were made.

Tamglass Lt. Oy is the technology and market leader in safety glass machinery, and it has
delivered 1.500 safety glass machines and lines to more than 70 countries. Uniglass
Engineering Oy has delivered approximately 60 flat tempering lines.

Kyro Group net sales in 2001 were EUR 147 million, and its largest business area is Safety Glass Technology, consisting of the Tamglass Group and Uniglass Engineering. The business area's share of Group net sales in 2001 was about 82%, and it employs a total of 496 people.

Lack of Space but plenty of Spacer on Ashton stand!

'Ease back there!' was a phrase uttered time after time by the Edgetech applicator man on Ashton Industrial's stand as he tried to muscle away the crowd surrounding him. Record attendances were recorded on Ashton's stand at Glasstec 2002 every time demonstrations of their revolutionary 'Leap – Frog' IG production line were held.

Using Edgetech's Superspacer product, the new 'Ashton' line produced two units per minute due to the patented 'Leap – Frog' conveyor, which by – passes the second piece of glass for each unit through to the press, at the same time the first piece of glass is being applied with Superspacer. No other production line has this enhancement, premiered at Düsseldorf.

Metal spacer frames can also be used to produce more 'traditional' units, simply by selecting the appropriate operating mode via the production lines modern PLC touch system.

Large crowds were also a feature every time the latest 'Ashton' Automatic Seaming Line was run. One of the latest breed of fast – track 'Reverse – G' layouts, this line, already purchased by Glasswerks Inc. of Los Angeles, California, is capable of fully arrissing random sized / thickness pieces of glass every 8 seconds!

The tremendous output rates of both these lines demanded copious amounts of glass for the demonstrations – our thanks to our friends at Hegla for their assistance.

Another innovation by Ashton was the use of state–of-the–art diamond polishing belts on their Triple - Belt Arrissing machine. Working with their diamond belt suppliers KGS, this represents a low cost and very flexible alternative to diamond wheel edging machinery. Samples of the highly polished edge are available from Ashton Industrial.

Record Number of leads for Hot Melt on Bostik stand

Ralph the Robot, star of Bostik Findley's latest advertising campaign, has been hailed as a major success after helping create a record number of sales leads for Hot Melt perimeter sealants at this year's Glasstec.

Bostik Findley's "personification" of robotic technology highlighted how the recent introduction of HMB (Hot Melt Butyl) applicators has been a major breakthrough for the Insulating Glass Unit industry.

The Bostik Findley stand featured a digital presentation of Europe's first fully automated HMB line, which uses Bostik P5125. Growth of Bostik Findley Hot Melt Butyl stands at 15% for 2002, and customer interest in the presentation and the resulting sales leads indicate similar levels of growth for 2003.

Hot Melt Butyl (HMB) edge sealants are single part, 100% solids compounds, specifically developed for the edge sealing of factory produced insulating glass units (IGU's).

Richard Sellman, marketing manager for Bostik Findley comments: "As HMB robotic technology is relatively new to the market, this is the first opportunity that we have had to discuss its use with our market-leading Hot Melt sealants at a major event.

'Ralph the Robot played a major part in conveying how the use of Hot Melt sealants can offer larger manufacturers a range of benefits for IGU manufacturing.

'We have received a record number of sales leads and Glasstec has clearly demonstrated that the IGU market is stronger than ever before.'

Bostik Findley's Hot Melt Sealants, Bostik P5125 and Evo-Stik Hiflo, are manufactured and tested to UK and International standards. Its Insulating Glass Laboratory has comprehensive research, development and unit testing facilities, including the UK's first dedicated test facility for prEN 1279-2 and -3. Bostik Findley offers specialist knowledge and advice and total technical support to meet the industry's every need.

Bohle at Glasstec 2002 - Going Strong in Glass

'The display of interesting new products and the practical demonstrations made the Bohle stand one of the most popular stands at the entire exhibition.' says the company.

The European manufacturer and supplier of tools, workshop machinery, accessories and consumables for all aspects of glass processing, art glass and picture framing presented the following highlights at Glasstec 2002:

Glass Processing

*The Silberschnitt System 2000 universal solution for all possible applications in manual glass cutting: A single oil glass cutter is the basis for all kinds of tools and processing techniques, making straight cuts in all glass thicknesses and also cutting circles, ovals, segments, as well as corner and lateral cut-outs.

*With the Silberschnitt 4000 Bohle presented a high quality oil glass cutter at an especially attractive price.

*The subject of scratch removal is important at Bohle: the 'Scratch-A-Way' system removes surface scratches quickly and effectively.

*The glass cutter 110.0 which had disappeared from Bohle's product range a few years ago has been brought back to life - the combination of new materials and the traditional shape is sure to meet the approval of many customers all over the world.

Glass Processing Machinery

For more than 10 years Bohle has been a recognised manufacturer of high quality glass processing machines for the glazier's trade - whether for grinding, drilling or sawing.

*New at Glasstec 2002 are vertical glass drilling machines in automatic and manual executions, which feature high performance and quality while requiring only a minimum of space.

*In addition there was an edge coat removal table and a manual tool to remove edge coatings from insulating glass, a twin belt grinding machine for dry grinding and a vacuum fixation system for processing glass parts with manual power tools.

*Belt grinding machines and glass drilling machines were also on display. in further improved executions.

*Also new was a complete range of grinding and polishing discs for all common edge processing machines.

Material Handling

*With the production of the Veribor suction lifter Bohle became a noted handling specialist. So it was only natural to expand this competence to include vacuum lifting equipment. For the first time at Glasstec, Bohle exhibited brand new vacuum lifting systems in several variations (electric, battery/electric, rotating/swivelling, with 2, 4 or 6 suction plates and load capacities up to 600 kg), which are distinguished by their solid construction while at the same time being relatively small and lightweight.

*In addition to the vacuum systems for the glass sector, Bohle also produces lifting systems for different applications, e.g. facades in building construction. A new model of glass lifting pliers which are good value for money are now part of the range.

*In the area of manual suction lifters Bohle presented the expanded series of 'Blue Line' suction lifters, which are distinguished by ergonomic design and all bear the 'GS' sign of tested safety.

Glass Bonding

Bohle is a world supplier of tools, consumables and accessories for glass bonding.

*Aside from the detailed practical demonstrations, new glass bonding fittings were at the centre of attention this year.

*An additional attraction were the new positioning films, which make bonding of metal parts to glass surfaces substantially easier. The time involved in bonding (and the associated costs) are reduced considerably.

Surface Treatment

The treatment of glass surfaces is becoming an increasingly important subject. The removal of dirt as well as the application of protective coatings to prevent new soiling is provided in a complete and convenient product assortment which Bohle introduced at Glasstec for the first time.

*A set of six different cleaners remove all imaginable kinds of dirt, whereas two different coating kits serve to protect sand-blasted as well as 'normal' glass surfaces. When used as directed, the products are guaranteed to protect the surfaces for 5 or 10 years, respectively!

Internet

The Bohle web site, which was introduced at the last Glasstec, has clearly proven itself in the past two years. The web site allows you not only to view Bohle's complete range of products, but also to order online. Registered customers receive a password, with which they can call up their personal prices and conditions and, with a user-friendly shopping basket function, can put together and place their orders.

*Not all of the more than 15,000 Bohle products can be shown at the exhibition - therefore eight internet terminals were available for visitors to view the extensive range of products at their own pace.

On the stand of over 1,000 m2 Bohle not only be presented the above-mentioned main product areas, but also offered expert advice on all subjects related to glass processing. More than 90 people from Bohle's headquarters as well as from the seven subsidiaries were on hand as sales consultants, demonstrators and service personnel to help customers from all over the world.
