Kolorplas
Goes Over the Rainbow
Kolorplas has launched the Rainbow Collection of coloured PVCu entrance
doors. The new range of doors is available in four standard and over 1500
other colours, courtesy of an innovative coating process applied by Kolorplas
during manufacture.
The Rainbow's standard range consists of red, blue, black and green, selected
by Kolorplas from experience as the most popular colours for entrance
doors. Doors can be coloured inside and out, or outside only as required.
The colour can also be applied to a textured finish giving an attractive
'timber' appearance. 'We've seen the market for coloured entrance doors
double in the past two years, with over 40% of our customers now specifying
colour as the trend for a more traditional look continues,' comments Sales
& Marketing Director, Chas Hollis. The Rainbow Collection can also
be supplied in a variety of woodgrain finishes and over 1500 other colours
at a supplementary cost.
In addition to the choice of colour, the Rainbow Collection is built to
high standards for performance, security and durability. Depending on
the door design, frame joints are grooved, mechanical or hand polished.
Also, each door panel in the collection is reinforced with solid ply for
extra safety and security. Featuring the Schlegel Lock Master claw locking
system, Kolorplas Rainbow Doors offer a high level of security against
intruders.
With door designs to suit both traditional and contemporary property styles,
the Rainbow Collection consists of three classic options - the symmetry
of the Buckinghamshire panels, the Oxfordshire, characterised by a large
top fanlight, and the Berkshire with a split top light. For a more individual
look, there is an extensive selection of coloured fanlights and bevels
available, any of which can be fitted into the preferred panel.
Kolorplas manufactures the full range of WHS/Halo 70mm Eclipse and Esthetique
window and door systems. The new Rainbow Door Collection complements both
profile types, and further extends the company's portfolio of coloured
PVCu products. All Kolorplas colour coated products come with a 10 year
warantee for adhesion and colour stability.

NEW
RESIN BEVEL DOOR COLLECTION FROM GBW
GBW Panels has launched a new range of resin bevel door panels. The Worcester
Collection offers a choice of designs exclusive to GBW which combine rich
bevelled glass with functionality.
The bevels are manufactured for GBW by glazing system specialist, Glasslam,
using resin technology to achieve stunning visual effects. The moulded
resin designs are encapsulated between two panes of Tempered Safety glass,
recreating the attractive sparkling effect of traditional bevelled glass,
but without the associated cleaning problems.
Commemorating GBW's successful move to larger premises in Worcester a
year ago, each design in the new range will be named after geographical
landmarks in the area. The four bespoke patterns currently available -
Avon, Stour, Severn and Teme - are named after local rivers, and a further
two additions are due to be announced shortly.
'Glasslam's patented process offers numerous performance benefits over
more expensive decorative glass alternatives, including a 99% block from
UV rays that can fade floor coverings and upholstery. In addition, the
unique triple layered glass dramatically reduces sound transmission. Using
resins also allows greater design flexibility, and the bevels in the new
Worcester Collection are all unique to GBW.' commented GBW's Director
of Sales, Geoff Foster.
'The Worcester Collection reflects GBW's commitment to offering its customers
the benefits of the very latest technology, and plans are already underway
to extend these exciting new resin bevels to our high performance Discovery
range of composite doors,'Contact: Geoff Foster

Authentic
Sash Horns From CWG
Launched at Glassex were the latest additions to the Corby Windows Group's
product range. Using Rehau's Tritec-Style 60mm profiie, authentic run
through sash horns provide an attractive, strong and above all traditional
look to PVC windows.
CWG
Director Jason Wilder commented, 'Though sash horns, bonded as additions
to a standard sash, have been around for years, we were concemed about
durability. We've heard from installers of call back after call back which
isn't good for their work load or costs and credibility with their customer.
After considerable development, we have introduced the new horns secure
in the knowledge that they will perform under the most demanding conditions.
'Research has shown that both trade customers and the new build market
are exceptionally interested in both the appearance of the horns but in
particular the reliability that continuous profiles afford - in fact,
the total reliability experienced from using PVCu profiles to fabricate
frames.'
CWG's installer customers from across the country can take immediate delivery
of frames complete with horns. Trade customers, including other Rehau
fabricators, will be able to procure either completed or virgin sashes
produced to their precise instructions.

SAPA
ANNOUNCES NEW PART L COMPLIANT SYSTEM DETAILS
Sapa Building Systems has announced details of a new product range, called
Dualframe, due for launch this month and designed to exceed the requirements
of Part L.
Sapa's
existing Glostal and Monarch product ranges comply with the Part L requirements,
but the new system will offer fabricators and installers many new features.
The new range will initially include casement, pivot, reversible and tilt
before tum windows as well as entrance doors. Frame depths of 55mm, 65mm
and 75mm will be available, making the system flexible and suitable for
residential and commercial specifications, in both new build and refurbishment
projects.
Exceeding the requirements of Part L with hard-coat low-e glazing and,
depending on the application, air-filled rather than argon-filled units
as well as using standard edge spacers rather than warm edge spacers;
the new profiles are multi-functional across the residential and commercial
markets. This means that stockholding and machining requirements can be
kept to a minimum even if a customer is supplying both sectors.
Dualframe features a high performance polyamide thermal break, dual colour
option, slimmer sight lines, Monaframe couplers, adjustable strikes on
doors and a patented security bead.
Jon Palethorpe, Sales Director commented on the new system: 'We are very
excited about the launch of Dualframe. Following thorough research it
has been carefully thought out to provide a complete product solution
for our customers. As well as its many innovative features Sapa has applied
for patents for two unique elements of the system design, which are a
new polyamide strip with a Eurogroove on the door ensuring the lock is
centrally placed in the leaf yet maintaining the thermal break; and a
polyamide strip with integral bead retention leg to minimise opening light
outer-projection and improve security'.
Details of the new range have been sent to all Sapa customers and a training
programme, as well as marketing plans for the launch, has been put in
place.

Cobra
Plus from HF Securite
The
new Cobra Plus is the latest addition to HF Securite's range of Euro profile
security cylinders. Designed to meet European standard BS EN1303 (Building
Hardware - Cylinders for Locks), this entirely modular cylinder can have
its length varied, allowing it to be adapted to a host of security applications
and levels.
Heat-treated
components within the cylinder structure protect the lock from damage
by drilling, picking and forced rotation. Cylinder breakage and pulling
are prevented by a speciaily designed steel crossbar and its cap design
makes it resistant to chisel attacks. The cylinder is also resistant to
extreme temperatures and corrosive environments.
The double-ended and thumb-turn versions of the Cobra Plus are available
in lengths starting at 66mm and going up to 106mm in steps of 5mm. The
single-ended option is subject to the same increments, but ranges from
45.5mm to 105.5mm.
The Cobra Plus is supplied with three non-reproducible Axira keys, which
come with an identification code and security card. The card must be presented
before a duplicate key can be made. The duplicate is then cut from a secret
combination contained in the identification code, rather than simply being
copied from the original.
The Cobra range of cylinders are available in either nickel- or brass-plated
finishes.

SYSTEM
OVOLO FROM KÖMMERLING
Kömmerling has launched a new third-generation window system. The
classic curves of the Connoisseur Gold ovolo profile were designed specifically
to complement more traditional-looking homes.
'Connoisseur's
curved, slimline ovolo shape creates a much 'softer' look, more in keeping
with traditional wooden windows, while giving the unrivalled benefits
of maintenance-free PVCu,' says National Sales and Marketing Manager Dan
Whalley.
The current widely-used chamfered profile evolved from the original square
profile which was the first type of PVCu window on the UK market. 'So
it's only natural that a more superior product, in the form of an ovolo,
should evolve from that.'
Kömmerling's Connoisseur Gold range forms an extensive suite of ovolo
curved-profile products: outward opening casements, top-hung or side-hung,
and modern tilt-and-turn windows, all finished in white or wood-grain
mahogany and Golden Oak - or a combination of white inside with woodgrain
outside - along with inward and outward opening residential doors and
French windows.
The new window system exceeds Part L of the Building regulations - and,
like the profile in all other Kömmerling windows, is stabilised with
Calcium-Zinc instead of lead.
Says Dan Whalley: 'By adding the ovolo system to the Gold range, we're
giving the public better choice and giving our fabricators and retailers
a better opportunity in a competitive market. The classic curves of Connoisseur's
design appeal not only to home-owners wanting to replace their existing
windows, but to New Build as well. Many New Build homes are going back
to a more traditional appearance - and Connoisseur complements that perfectly.'

No
screw-ups in sight with Marutex
'If you manufacture PVCu doors and windows using inferior screws you put
your customers and the reputation of your business at serious risk. If
products fall apart, or don't last as long as they should, they can cause
injury or even death. That's why UK Fasteners first developed its revolutionary
self-drilling screw, Marutex.' says the company.
Marutex is manufactured from modified martensitic material which gives
it excellent corrosion resistance - the equal of austenitic. It self-drills
into steel easily, and because Marutex is magnetic it has significant
application benefits for fabricators, saving time and hassle in manufacture.
The company claims it is the only brand of screws the British Board of
Agrement (BBA) certify for windows and doors, for both external and internal
use. The BBA subjected Marutex to extensive testing - when subjected to
neutral salt spray according to BS 7479:1991 for up to 1000 hours they
'showed no signs of corrosion'.
'UK Fasteners make sure that the products they distribute are of the highest
quality, and Marutex is our star performer. With 25 million screws in
use and a 20 year £20 million insurance-backed warranty that covers
both material and labour, Marutex has proved itself where it matters.'
the company adds.

3M
Accentrim Adhesive Tapes: The look of bevelled glass - with an adhesive
tape
3M have introduced a new range of adhesive tapes designed to enhance glass
applications with the beauty of bevelled and v-groove light.
3M Accentrim Tapes simulate bevelled and v-groove designs on windows,
doors, mirrors and cupboards as well as transparent plastics whilst eliminating
the need to invest in expensive machinery and manufacturing processes.
The products can be applied to clear plastics and glass, and can be used
with other decorative methods for impressive effects.
'The benefits of using 3M Accentrim tapes over traditional methods are
numerous.' says the company. 'Stunning effects can be created on thinner
glass; thinner glass is not only cheaper it also weighs less, reducing
stress on cabinet hinges. Pre-toughened glass, formerly not an option
for manufacturers can now be used for decorative purposes.'
3M Accentrim Tapes incorporate a clean application process and can be
applied in-house, reducing lead times and allowing greater flexibility
of design options. The products can also be applied in-situ, eliminating
the need to remove glass before application.
3M Accentrim Tapes are available in various roll widths: the v-groove
effect is available in 12mm - 25mm and the bevel effect in 12mm - 31mm.
Using an M90 precision cutter the product can be cut to the desired length
and to angles of 30, 45, 60 and 90( to make mitres, crosses and corners
for hand application quick and neat. A semi-automated machine can also
be used to apply the product, facilitating fast and accurate application.
Once applied 3M Accentrim Tapes carry a 5-year guarantee; on single pane
applications and, if applied correctly, the company claims they resist
shrinkage, discoloration, delamation and common home glass cleaners.

Dual
Function Sliding Sash Window Launched by CWG
CWG Duo-Sash was launched by Corby Windows group at Glassex. The new product,
fabricated from Rehau 719 PVCu profiles, has all the appearance of traditional
sliding sash windows and operates in the way expected with each fully
weather stripped sash sliding up and down. But Duo-Sash has a hidden but
very important additional asset that could, quite literally, save life.
The
hidden asset? its quite simple, but effective. Either sash of Duo-Sash
will not only slide conventionally but when required, one or both sashes
can be hinged inwards for cleaning but more importantly, for escape in
the event of fire.
Operation is simple too. Releasing a standard catch on the meeting rail
allows sashes to slide then by releasing two, easy to use, lateral catches
on the meeting rail releases the lower sash to hinge inwards. The upper
sash can then be opened by releasing two similar catches on the top rail
allowing the sash to also hinge inwards leaving a large, clear area for
access or escape.
Fire escape standards vary across the United Kingdom. ln England, the
open area of large conventional sliding windows may be enough to meet
the specification of Building Regulations Part B. For smaller sized frames,
the ability with Duo-Sash to open both sashes will assist with compliance.
ln Scotland, the specification for clear area of escape is much greater.
Just one open sash is usually insufficient to meet the regulations. However,
the Duo-Sash capability of swinging both sashes inwards should be enough
to meet the more stringent requirements.
'CWG Duo-Sash provides a good looking, low maintenance, high performance
solution to the fire escape requirements of the Building Regulations where
sliding sash windows are specified for replacement, renovation or new
build projects.' says the company.

Shootbolt Extends Mila's Warrior Range
Hardware manufacturer Mila has launched a shootbolt under its Warrior
brand, extending this range of value-for-money products that already includes
espagnolettes, handles and friction stays.
'The
Warrior Shootbolt, manufactured by Mila in the UK in high quality stainless
steel, offers the combination of remarkable performance and highly competitive
pricing that will be familiar to buyers of other products in the Warrior
range. It combines strength and security with proven operation to provide
a product that is simple to fabricate, reliable and extremely secure.'
says the company.
The operating mechanism is highly effective: by operating the handle the
smooth reverse action gearbox throws the steel shootbolts in opposing
directions into their dedicated strikers.
Simultaneously the mushroom cams effectively seal the window for weathertightness
and provide additional anti-separation points for security. The mushroom
cams feature compression adjustment and the shootbolt throw may be simply
adjusted for either 10mm or 13mm throw.
Designed to suit all types of casement windows the inline gearbox is available
with a number of options. It may be specified with or without mushroom
cams, in 20 or 22mm backsets, and with either 8 or 9mm adjustable cams.
Combined shootbolt/mushroom strikers, which feature a night vent facility,
provide additional strength in the corners of a window. Strikers are available
for most profile systems, and stocking requirements are reduced with only
4 sizes of extension required.

New
Process for Printing Photographs onto Glass is Clearly a Good Idea
Photographs have been printed onto photographic paper for almost as long
as photography has been around, but now photographic artist, Chris Ward,
has developed a new process for printing onto glass that opens a new chapter
in the print process.
'A
new medium for printing photographs onto was long overdue,' says Chris,
who is currently looking for a glass manufacturer to team up with. 'The
advantages of printing onto glass are enormous, he explains. 'By lighting
the image from behind, for example, its colours become much richer and
more vibrant than they would be if they were printed on paper. Another
major advantage is that using glass there is no need for a frame around
the print, which can be highly visually intrusive if it is not in keeping
with the setting in which the print is hung.'
As well as being more aesthetic, using glass as a medium, Chris says,
is considerably cheaper than dry mounting a print, covering it with glass
and putting it into a frame.
Chris Ward will undertake individual commissions from clients and work
with them to produce the imagery they desire. Each photograph can be tuned
to the surrounding in which it is to be viewed by manipulating its colour
and shape to perfectly capture the mood and atmosphere desired by his
clients.
Ward is highly experienced in the photographic field, having worked as
a sports photographer worldwide, an advertising photographer, video editor
and IT trainer. As well as looking to partner with a glass manufacturer
for production purposes he is also looking for one interested in sponsonng
an exhibition of his work. 'Manufacturers of clear glass must have a marketing
challenge on their hands as one piece of glass looks very much like another,'
said Chris. 'At the risk of being immodest my work would show their products
to their best advantage, so such a collaboration could be very mutually
beneficial.'
Examples of Chris Ward's work can be seen on his web site at: http://www.web-vision-on.com
