The New Synseal Box Gutter

Towards the end of 2002 the Synseal Research and Development Department created a box gutter to supply the benefits of the existing design with new ones to boot, namely no need to run a PVCu gutter within the aluminium section.

The base of the new box has two skins of aluminium, creating an air void between the external 'weather' skin and the internal face, eliminating the risk of internal condensation even more. There is also an anti-drip adhesive beneath the gutter. The removal of a PVCu gutter inside the box vastly increases the capacity of the box gutter.

Due to the fact it only needs a single design of box gutter adapter, which fixes mechanically inside the aluminium box, the normal guttering section can still appear to run inside the box.

Bohle gets Drilling

Bohle has applied its advanced technology to a new range of vertical glass drilling machines. With a choice of automatic or manual models, these latest additions to Bohle's machinery collection are specifically designed for processing glass panes in a vertical position.

Bohle's GBMAV 2/1300 automatic glass drilling machine enables the fully automatic positioning and processing of upright standing glass panes. Users simply pre-program drilling templates for the required pattern of drill holes, and the machine automatically completes drilling in accordance with the data entered. The machine's two diamond drilling heads operate vertically with horizontal movement of the glass. High-precision guides ensure the accurate positioning and alignment of both heads, and only when different drill diameters are required is it necessary to exchange drills within a working cycle.

The manual version of Bohle's vertical glass drilling machine employs proven technology from the company's horizontal drilling range. A suitable tool for glazing workshops dealing with a wide variety of requirements, the new GBMV 2/900-10 is highly adaptable and features a space-saving construction.

After setting the glass down and entering the desired drilling position, the glass is automatically positioned vertically. Drilling measurements lengthwise can be set either by scaled stops or laser lines, and precise alignment of the front and back drill heads is assured with a stable C-frame support. The new machine has an ideal height for processing small and medium-sized glass panes.

Further information on these new vertical glass drilling machines or any of the products in Bohle's machinery range is available by calling freephone 0800 61 61 51, or visiting the company's website at http://www.bohle.ltd.uk.

AMC702 Automatic Machining Centre Offers Speed and Flexibility for Greater Production

UK machinery manufacturer GTI-Kombimatec has introduced a 'big brother' to its recently launched AMC602 Automatic Machining Centre that incorporates a number of new features, all designed to provide the extra speed and flexibility that fabricators need to boost production.

Suitable for working PVCu and aluminium sections, the AMC702 Automatic Machining Centre offers all the benefits of the AMC602 - such as full CNC control, clever tooling and easy operation - but with several additional advantages. The most significant of these is its ability to process two profile lengths simultaneously instead of just one, doubling production speed instantaneously. Two zones of operation also enable the machine to double capacity yet again when routing shorter pieces. Programs can be run any number of times between the two zones, allowing the operator to load zone A whilst zone B is still being worked on and vice versa.

A special tool enables the AMC702 to work on three sides of the profile length, whilst axis movement on linear guides aided by circulating ball screws enables both smooth operation and precise results. The 3 axes are controlled via high-speed servo positioning drives, enabling quick cycle times and accuracy to 0.1mm.

Fully programmable for different routing requirements via dedicated PC software that is easy to use and operator-friendly, the AMC702 boasts a special CAD CAM tool that enables quick drawing of the shape or cut-out required. This can then be converted into a machine program either on the machine itself or by using special software on an office PC, in advance.

Built for lasting performance, with a solid electro-welded steel structure, the AMC702 has also been designed to provide long-term flexibility. The machine offers seven tool positions into which different routers, cutters, drills, taps and even a milling blade can be loaded. A mist spray device keeps the tools and working area cool during operation whilst a travelator located below working zones A & B moves cut-outs and swarf to one end of the machine.

Whilst offering speed and precision, the AMC702 is also very safe to use, incorporating a safety guard for the router spindle at the front of the machine, and a safety gate at the rear protects the moving parts and personnel. Two special pressure sensitive mats in Zones A & B also monitor operator presence.
The AMC702 is available in both 4 metre and 6.5 metre versions to accommodate 4000mm and 6500mm X-axis travel respectively.

Bohle Deletes Edges

To meet the ever growing demands of sealed unit manufacturers, Bohle has introduced three new machines for edge coating deletion of low-e glass.

An in-depth understanding of the many varied requirements of companies across the spectrum has enabled Bohle to develop a solution which satisfies small glaziers as well as large glass producers. The machines range from a simple hand held power tool device - ideal for the smaller company and those looking to edge delete shaped units, to a more robust hand held unit through to a full semi-automatic edge deletion table. Prices start at £595 up to around £7,500 depending on specification and type required.

'We've seen a significant increase in the demand for edge coating deletion equipment in sealed unit production as the use of low-e coatings moves from partial to almost complete,' comments Bohle's Sales Manager, Nelson Graham.

'We traditionally cater for all size and type of glass company and so it was important to have a full range from large standard and bespoke tables down to affordable hand held machines, all of which are now available for 2003.'

With the acquisition of VV Agencies in Wembley last summer, Bohle has been able to build on an established market to offer a comprehensive package for sealed unit manufacturers throughout the South East .This includes spacer bars, IG sealant, desiccant and all other core products for the production of double glazed sealed units - all available ex-stock on Bohle's own delivery fleet.

Carl F Supplies new Shootbolt

High security with ease of installation and smooth operation are the key benefits listed by Carl F Petersen of the new Lockmaster 2 window shoot bolt.

Designed to meet fabricator requirements, and with increased security in mind, the latest addition to the hardware supplier's portfolio is available in two versions.

A 'croppable' bolt with just four different rod sizes helps to keep stocking to a minimum while an extendable version saves time in fabrication. Both 20 and 22mm backsets are available in each variant, with or without integral mushroom locking point. Additionally, a one-piece combined mushroom and end keep feature is designed to save time and money.

Commenting, Carl F business development manager Bruce Bradshaw said:
'Routing detail is identical to other products in the market, making it easy for fabricators to change, while the fixing screws on the Lockmaster gearbox are set wide apart to ensure secure fixing every time.

'In the very near future, a further option will be available in stainless steel, for improved appearance and corrosion resistance. The launch of the Lockmaster includes system specific keeps for ten of the leading PVCu systems, and more will follow.'

Setting the Seal on Part L

Alfas Industries Ltd has launched a new foam perimeter sealing tape, which can help building designers meet the air leakage and thermal insulation requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations.

The new Alfas i tape is an impregnated PU foam tape encapsulated in a special polypropylene film that is designed for application to door and window frames in the factory.

Once the window or door has been installed, the sealing properties of the tape are activated on site by partial removal of the film. This allows the pre-compressed foam to expand and fill the gap between the frame and the inner wall construction.

The result is a quality air seal that also provides thermal and acoustic insulation. Alfas i also acts as a moisture vapour barrier preventing the formation of interstitial condensation within the wall construction.

Unlike conventional 'wet' sealants, Alfas i is clean and easy to apply. There is no curing process and therefore no hazardous or objectionable odours are emitted. The product can be activated in adverse weather conditions and will act as a temporary weather seal until the final external sealant can be applied.

Supplied as a continuous strip on a spool in a range of sizes, Alfas i is capable of accommodating varying joint widths up to 15mm wide.

The product complements a range of glazing tapes and specialist sealants available from Alfas.

Solaglas Clears up with New Easy-Clean Showers

A new easy-clean shower glass was launched in the UK recently by Saint-Gobain Solaglas, the suppliers of processed glass to the shower industry.

SGG Aquacontrol® Showers has a transparent coating of hydrophobic (water-repellent) material which is invisible to the naked eye. When water makes contact with the surface of the SGG Aquacontrol® Showers, the droplets merge together and tiny beads of water form and run straight off the glass surface. Any leftover residue can also be more easily cleaned away.

The company claims that the labour-saving easy-clean coating gives SGG Aquacontrol® Showers unique properties compared with normal shower glass:

- The inside of your shower is easier to clean: less dirt adheres to its surface
- Less frequent cleaning is required : the glass stays cleaner for longer
- Shower-cleaning costs are reduced
- The lessened reliance on detergents will help protect the environment
- You can spend more time on yourself, and less on cleaning the bathroom!

SGG Aquacontrol® Showers is suitable for the interior of any glass shower application (flat or curved) and suitable also applied to screen-printed, patterned or opaque glass for increased flexibility and choice. The mechanical performance of the glass remains unaffected by the SGG Aquacontrol® Showers coating. The look is identical to that of normal glass; both transparency and visual appearance are maintained.

The coating has been certified by the German TUV which is recognised worldwide as a qualified product safety testing and quality certification organisation serving a variety of industries in the world's major markets. SGG Aquacontrol® Showers is guaranteed for 5 years.

Saint-Gobain Solaglas are co-licence holders along with Glas Funke, a German subsidiary of Saint-Gobain Glass network, and the first suppliers of curved, toughened glass in Europe. Together, these two companies offer a one-stop-shop for processed flat and curved shower glass supplies.

SGG Aquacontrol® Showers was presented at Glasstec, the major European Glass Products Trade Fair in Dusseldorf. Launched in the UK last month, the new product will be available from February 2003 supplied by Solaglas Bradford, to specialist manufacturers of shower cubicles and bath screens.

Stuga Autocut

'When the Stuga Autocut Saw Centre was launched eight years ago it was then well ahead of its time. Sales to a number of foresighted companies followed but then remained flat until around the beginning of 2002 when fabricators began to realise the folly of purchasing more and more double mitre saws and as a result find more operators.' says the company.

'The main advantages of the Autocut go well beyond the 700 windows per week that it can produce into areas such as considerably lower skill requirements, far greater accuracy and of course consistency.'

The Autocut operator only has to load up to fifteen 6.0m profile lengths onto the infeed table and the machine will automatically produce all forty-five and ninety degree cuts in addition to producing perfect arrowheads every time due to the self-centring mechanism built into the machine. More profiles can be added at any time to fit in with the natural rhythm of cutting.

The Autocut comes in left-to-right and right-to-left versions and the standard left-to-right version can also be upgraded to a full Flowline sawing & prepping centre at a later date. The natural companion for the Autocut is the fully automatic Ecoline prepping centre.

Wright Style Introduces New Structural Glazing System

Wright Style, the steel glazing specialist, has introduced a new structural glazing system for use in flush-fitting glass facades.

The Wright Style SG system, based on the firm's SR series curtain walling and roof glazing system, eliminates the need for external pressure plates and capping profiles - giving designers new aesthetic options.

The SG system is suitable for vertical, sloped or roofglazing applications and allows architects and designers to incorporate much larger or multi-faceted areas of structural glazing into their designs than previously.

The SG system utilises a combination of Wright Style's SR steel and stainless steel grid profiles, with glass panels structurally silicone bonded to either aluminium or stainless steel retaining profiles.

The profiles are then secured to the grid by concealed stainless steel retaining bolts, giving the appearance of a four sided structurally glazed glass wall, with no visible method of mechanical retention and producing a sleek unobtrusive facade.

The SG system claims to be fast and simple to erect, and utilises standard SR grid profiles with internal gaskets. The system is then finished with backing rods and structural silicone between the glass, providing an effective weather barrier that maximises both aesthetics and practicality.

With a wide range of grid profiles in either 50 or 60mm wide sight lines, produced in steel and stainless steel in differing wall thicknesses and profile depths, large spans of glazing can be achieved without the need for additional supportive steelwork.

All Wright Style glazing systems are backed up by a development and testing programme, with particular emphasis on performance, ease of manufacture and installation. In addition, the SG system complies with the requirements of document L when used with suitable high performance glasses.

The SR system, from which the SG system was developed, has recently been installed in the Muburak TV centre complex in Cairo and the University of Hong Kong medical centre.

'Wright Style is committed to the development of products and systems that push the design envelope - whether it's doors, partitions, curtain walling or roof glazing systems. Our systems are designed to be technically superior whilst remaining cost-effective across our comprehensive range of interior and extemal systems,' said Tim Kempster, Commercial Manager.

The SR system has also successfully completed UK high-pressure blast-resistant testing, underlining the system's strength as a full-glazed primary protection system against explosive risks - an important design consideration for today's architects.

Wright Style steel glazing systems are available through a global network of licensed fabricators.
