Ultraframe for the Ultimate in Decorative Choice

Ultraframe has launched a new range of decorative glazing bar internal claddings to allow consumers to design their conservatory interiors to reflect their individual tastes.

This range of internal claddings, in a choice of design styles, will allow consumers to further customise interiors to bring additional choice and a coordinated approach to conservatory aesthetics.

The new sculptured claddings complement virtually any window profile and work well with the UltraSelect range of decorative fascia strips - of which 40 KM has been sold to date. This latest addition now provides installers with a full suite of decorative internal claddings.

The Ultraframe Georgian cladding does not require complex mitre cuts at the jack rafter position as it is square edged to facilitate easy and tidy jointing. Similarly, there is no need for silicone for joint sealing.

By enhancing customisation options for installers and conservatory retailers alike, these new undercappings increase consumer choice. Furthermore because these increased options are being offered at no additional cost, they bring an added sales advantage and an additional profit opportunity.

Less Stress with New 4th Corner Weld Cycle

GTI-Kombimatec has introduced an optional 4th corner weld cycle for its EKS432 Single Head Welder.

This feature, which is already available on all Kombimatec Multi-Head Welders, involves a special procedure whereby the setting plate is removed when clamping the final piece of the 4th corner, ensuring that both faces are clamped accurately before the welding process begins. Consequently, no stretching of the frame is required, reducing the stress that would otherwise be placed on the other three existing welded joints.

Suitable for fabricating smaller windows such as sash style frames, the EKS432 is a fully automatic welder unit with integrated digital temperature control for accuracy and reliability. All functions such as welding temperature, pressure etc. may be set individually and independently of each other for greater flexibility. The EKS432 adapts itself to the cross-section of the profile to be welded, whilst built-in programs allow a qualified technician to mimic the automatic cycle to simplify fault diagnosis and minimise inconvenience.

A New Star Sparkles at Wimbledon

Re-new Glass of Slough has been using Chemetall's Crystal Guard to bring a shine to the windows of the Broadcast Centre at the famous All England Club at Wimbledon. Re-new Glass, a company which specialises in glass restoration, protection and maintenance used the Chemetall product Crystal Guard when it was contracted to refurbish the windows of the Broadcast Centre at Wimbledon, in time for last year's tournament.

First the window surface was prepared. Re-new achieves a clean surface by mechanically cleaning the surface of the glass. To achieve this the company uses a polishing system which is quick, clean and free of mess. This process not only removes any contamination caused by the weather and pollution, but it also polishes the surface of the glass removing any scratches.

The problem Re-new then had was how to keep the glass looking good. This was when the company discovered Crystal Guard. Crystal Guard acts as a protective coating on the surface of the glass. It prevents staining of the glass and is hydrophobic so reducing the accumulation of dirt. This was the type of product Re-new needed when it was awarded the contract to replenish the hydrophobic qualities with a simple, cost effective maintenance system. The result is that the glass looks better for longer and requires less upkeep. In order to keep standards high Re-new technicians have been specially trained by Chemetall personnel in the application of Crystal Guard.

At Wimbledon Crystal Guard was applied in situ on the windows. Re-new Glass can also apply this coating onto windows at its factory, before the glass is actually put in place.

KAT Expands its Brand Product Base

KAT UK has expanded its operations to bring its full range of niche window and door products fully under the KAT brand. This has been carried out to better meet the needs of a market place that is putting more emphasis on replacing existing first generation, lower grade PVCu products with more technologically and aesthetically advanced modern day alternatives.

The KAT product range aims to fulfil those areas of the market place that fabricators cannot fulfil with their existing production capabilities. Most fabricators have efficient manufacturing-lines to meet the cost and delivery demands of high volume window and door outputs. Yet specialised products such as patio doors and vertical sliding windows require a completely different manufacturing approach - one that requires significant investment in machinery, components and skills.

'We can take the pressure of manufacturing niche products away from the fabricator, while still giving him the opportunity to add specialised ranges to his overall product portfolio,' said KAT director David Richards. 'The cost implications of adding a new niche product to an existing line is rarely cost effective if the potential volumes are not sufficient - but not having access to that product as an added value alternative might make the difference between winning or losing a contract. This is where KAT steps in.

'The KAT brand has made a significant impact on the market place with its patio doors over the last few years - providing uncompromising quality and service,' he continued. 'Our other products were launched under the same premise but with a little more stealth - we wanted to ensure that they were product areas that would work both for our customers and for ourselves. Both the vertical sliders and the composite doors have made steady headway now and I feel confident that they will add value to our customers' own product portfolios.'

The Macclesfield based company now includes its full range of patio door products, VS vertical sliding windows, and composite doors within the KAT brand.

Joint Shootbolt Development

Millenco Hardware and Marshall-Tufflex have worked together to create a dedicated shootbolt solution.

The Marshall-Tufflex lock takes no longer to fit than a simple, traditional espagnolette, so no increased labour costs are necessary. This means that the same amount of time and effort is being put into a window that is offering far superior security. The shootbolt sits comfortably in Marshall-Tufflex's slimline Strata window system, providing a high level of security without compromising on the timber effect aesthetics of the system's sightlines.

'The choice was to either redevelop the system to incorporate a Eurogroove, or source a dedicated locking solution,' said Marshall-Tufflex's national sales manager Tom Malarkey. 'At the end of the day there was no reason to change the system. Its popularity among our fabricators and their own customer base was indicative of this. Developing our own lock was the simplest and most cost effective way for all concerned. And by starting from scratch we were able to take into account our bevelled suite as well, developing a 'one lock fits all' design for improved stocking requirements.

Marshall-Tufflex wants to encourage its fabricators to take a much longer term perspective on business development. It wants them to achieve this by taking more responsibility for their own brand positioning in the market place. The new shootbolt is an important element in this - increasing security means added value to the finished product. That finished product is an ideal vehicle to 'up-sell' - better security, better installation, better overall performance giving a longer life expectancy. For the quality hungry retail market this means that, with minimal effort and investment on the fabricator's behalf, lucrative new marketing opportunities are opening up.

'Our fabricators have probably got it easier than most,' continued Tom. 'Our Strata system has, for many years, preceded the growing trend for more sculpted timber effect profiles. Adding the Marshall-Tufflex lock to the equation takes an old and trusted favourite well ahead in the market place without the need for large chunks of investment in changing production facilities.'

New Speed Fix Ringbeam from Newdawn

Newdawn and Sun has launched its new Speed Fix Ringbeam designed to make fabrication of its conservatory roof system simpler and quicker. Other roof components have also been improved to complement the product.

The new design cuts time spent on preparing and fabricating the ring beam and box gutter. No need to mark out, drill and then insert fixing nuts. Just cut the ring beam to size and then slide on all the fixing plates before joining the ring beam.

The eaves filler, which swivels with the roof pitch from 2.5 to 45 degrees, is then positioned between the plates and the bar centres are ready. Fixing plates are supplied cut to size with the Hank Bushes inserted and in five different types to suit the style of installation. All are designed to swivel and lock in position at the required pitch when the bars are in place.

Awkward angles are eliminated with the new variable ring beam joint which adjusts to suit the roof. The pre-set ring beam joints have been modified to fit the new ring beam.

The ring beam accommodates either the Newdawn aluminium ogee gutter or any PVCu gutters with ease. For more information, contact the Newdawn technical team.

Quick Slide find WindowMASTER®'s all White

UK Fasteners has introduced a new 'white finish' to the heads of its window screws in the WindowMASTER® range. Available to all UK Fasteners' customers, this finish is available on a limited range of fasteners.

The white-headed screws were initially introduced on the request of Quick Slide, the manufacturer of PVC vertical sliding sash windows.

Previously working with another supplier Margaret Whittaker, Buyer for Quick Slide Windows, explains why the company made the switch: 'UK Fasteners are one of the best screw distributors in the UK - we have never been let down by their products or their service. The price and quality is excellent and we would have no hesitation in recommending them. The white-headed screws were originally only used by Quick Slide, but our sister companies, Quick Frame and Scholes Windows, were so impressed with UK Fasteners they now fabricate using their screws.'

GTI-Kombimatec Opens the Door to Greater Productivity

With many window fabricators now also adding doors to their portfolio, GTI-Kombimatec has introduced two new machines that aim to provide reliable, safe and effective solutions for routing door sections or locks.

For fabricators for whom door manufacturing is becoming an increasingly important profit centre, the AMC602 Automatic Machining Centre offers full CNC control for accuracy and speed. Fully programmable for different routing requirements via a dedicated PC program, the AMC602 is built for lasting performance, with a solid electro-welded steel structure. Automatic tool changing is achieved with six tool options.

Whilst offering speed and precision, the AMC602 is also safe to use, incorporating a pneumatic safety clamping device and full protection of the machine to reduce risk of injury.

Aimed mainly at small to medium output fabricators is the MMC308 Manual Machining Centre for doors. Whilst offering the cost benefits of a manual machine, the MMC308 also has a semi-automated control console for superb precision. An adjustable pneumatic copier pin acts as a template, closely following the shape of each door section or lock to produce extremely accurate end results. Pneumatic rotation from 0 - 90 deg. is achievable for each door section or lock, whilst 4 adjustable pneumatic clamps and electronic variable speed control allow the operator to significantly increase productivity in comparison with traditional methods.

Powered by a three-phase HP motor, the MMC308 represents a long-term alternative to fully automated machinery. Its designers also focused on producing a safer alternative to older-style manual machines, equipping the machine with a pneumatic safety clamping device and full machine protection to protect the operator.

GTI-Kombimatec's Sales Director Ian Wheatley believes that both new machines represent a suitable choice for any size of fabricator wanting to expand its door manufacturing business:
'The AMC602 offers everything a door fabricator would need to increase productivity on a large scale, whilst our MMC308 represents an ideal middle ground between manual and automatic. Both are highly efficient, reliable machines which are also very safe to use and will increase productivity and profits. They are also affordable and fit neatly into an existing production line. We are already receiving many enquiries from fabricators looking for exactly this type of solution.'
