Natur-Al Knocks on Wood

Natur-Al has introduced a standard range of decorative interior claddings for its patent protected conservatory system. A selection of wood veneers, from pale ash to dark red mahogany, is now available to bring the beauty of wood to the inside of any Natur-Al conservatory. The veneers can also be varnished, painted or stained to create additional colours and effects as required.

The different wood finishes are created by applying the chosen stain to the wood veneer which has already been laminated onto MDF profiles. These are then cut to size. Quick and easy to fit on site, the profiles are affixed to the conservatory's aluminium structure with heavy-duty double-sided tape. And if the owner wants a new look, the existing cladding can be removed and replaced with an alternative finish. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the cladding also acts as an additional thermal barrier.

Developed with the backing of the Timbmet Group, the Natur-Al conservatory system has a construction concept consisting of aluminium load bearing support columns with external coloured pressure plates and decorative internal claddings. This separate exterior and interior construction allows for almost limitless colour options both inside and out.

‘The new range of interior finishes reflects the flexibility of the Natur-Al system which can be designed to match the owner's taste. Wood effects are always popular but, following feedback from customers, we already have plans to extend the choice to include a more diverse range of options such as mirrored and stainless steel finishes,' comments Steve Crossley, Timbmet's Group Marketing Manager.

Thermlock Delivers Thermal Performance Breakthrough

Thermlock - a patented thermally-enhanced reinforcing profile from Sheerframe systems company L.B. Plastics - enables windows to achieve Part L ratings without the need for soft-coat glazing.

Used with Sheerframe four chamber profiles, Thermlock ensures that even the most complex fully reinforced windows, achieve the 1.8W/m2K rating required from March 2003 under Part J (Scotland) of the Building Regulations. The tougher requirements for the thermal performance of windows are expected to come into force in the rest of the UK in due course.

The product is the result of a three-year development programme by L.B. Plastics and is available exclusively to Sheerframe fabricators. As well as its thermal performance, the new reinforcing suite - there are eight different profiles available for use with Sheerframe co-extruded 6000 and 7000 window systems - offers a range of other benefits.

'Thermlock delivers a torsional rigidity nine times better than steel. On deflection strength it is 50% stronger than standard aluminium. Once in place, its specially designed screw pick-up ridges make fixing into Thermlock easier, delivering 25% greater pull-out strength for handles, keeps, shootbolts and hinge fixings.' says Sheerframe Product Director David Strang.

'Many reinforced windows barely scrape through the current 2.OW/m2K requirement and will be unable to meet the new tougher standard without using soft-coat glazing. Thermlock represents a major breakthrough in window performance and delivers significant market advantage to Sheerframe windowmakers, enabling windows to meet the building regulation requirements whilst still using the traditional glazing materials which the fabricator prefers.'

Warrior Sinidex Friction Stay Fights Forced Entry

Hardware manufacturer Mila Hardware has launched the latest addition to its Warrior range, designed to provide a high security specification for casement windows. The Warrior Sinidex friction stay offers extra high security features that claim to have been proven in tests to resist human attempts at forced entry for three minutes and will also withstand in excess of 3500 Newtons of applied force.

The Warrior Sinidex friction stay is manufactured in the UK using high grade stainless steel. Officially approved and licensed by the police Secured By Design initiative, the Warrior Sinidex friction stay achieves security and weather sealing through the use of a nylon reduced-friction end cap. This strengthened end cap, along with a heavy-duty vent arm, ensures that the stays themselves will not give way even when leverage is applied.

In addition, however, the friction stay is also smooth in operation. The special design of the vent arm and end cap makes the window easy to open and close, providing inteference-free movement. The location of the metal against the plastic cap cover also acts as an enhanced weather seal.

Suitable for top and side hung window applications of all sizes, the Warrior Sinidex friction stay conforms to the requirements of BS 6375 Part II.

New Ornate Door Handle - Looking Better for Longer

Shepley Window Systems is about to launch a new range of door handles featuring a scratch resistant finish. The company claims that in laboratory tests, the finish has been proven to withstand 1000 hours of salt-water spray as well as showing good resistance to UV radiation and general household cleansers. Gary Torr, md, explains the benefits for installers, 'The new handle is an improvement, because it now looks better for longer - another benefit from Shepley that makes it easier to sell and gain customer satisfaction from the homeowner.

'Other features of the door handle are its swan neck design giving it a more traditional, stylish look,' continues Gary. 'It's available in a scratch resistant gold finish, as well as white, black and silver. It is particularly good for conservatory installations where the gold finish on the door handles perfectly complements the gold window handles. What's more it doesn't cost any more and it still comes with a 10-year guarantee.'

Aztec Extends Design Choice

The majority of modern conservatories feature roofs pitched on all open sides, but increasingly, there is a demand for gable-ended options.

Aztec Conservatory Roof Systems has added a gable option to its standard range.
Explains John Sales, Aztec product development director, 'People do ask for gable ended roofs, and with our system it is easy to produce, using our standard system. This means fabricators can extend the choice they offer their customers without having to stock a whole separate range of components, and their customers have the reassurance of fitting a system they already know.'

The Aztec gable system utilises the same ten core components to its standard pitched on all open sides design, but replaces the end face down slope with a firring cover and gable cap to the ridge, enabling glazing to be fitted in a vertical plane.

Fabricators simply make the ridge longer, so it terminates level with the ring beam, rather than short of it, as with a pitched roof.

The gable option complements the Aztec range, which includes standard and heavy duty Victorian and Edwardian styles, and a gazebo. All feature Aztec's gasket, which enables the same ridge to accommodate 16mm, 25mm and 35mm glazing.

Deceuninck Launches New Decoroc® Colours

Deceuninck is extending its Decoroc® options with the launch of six new colours. These additional colours complement the growing demand for variety in PVCu window, door and building product finishes, for both the commercial and retail window refurbishment and new construction markets.

Decoroc®, is a Deceuninck patented process for the application of a durable colour coating to PVCu profiles which are used to fabricate coloured constructions such as windows, doors, fascias and other building products. The process gives the colours a good resistance to scratching and chemical abrasion, prevents permanent adhesion of graffiti and cement veils, yet retains the innate suppleness and flexibility of the PVCu profile.

A key advantage of Decoroc® is that it is applied to the profiles prior to delivery to the window manufacturer. The manufacturer can then produce coloured window and door products from scratch, rather than sending the finished product away for colour coating. This reduces the risk of affecting the final quality though over-handling the product and attributing damage liability. Equally, with no minimum profile order, there are no prohibitive pricing issues.

Deceuninck is offering its full range of Decoroc® colours with a no quibble ten year guarantee. The impact resistant finish is achieved by drying the coated profiles in a 50°C oven for eight hours.

The new range of colours include: RAL7031 blue grey; RAL5008 grey blue;
RAL7033 cement grey; RAL5010 gentian blue; RAL7026 granite grey; RAL9006 white aluminium.
