The Stuga CNC Saw Centre Automat

Lack of volume on double mitre saws, especially with internally glazed windows, is a common problem. Also accuracy in general, but in particular with arrowheads being off centre due to variations in width of profile. There is also the difficulty in finding and keeping good sawyers as well as the cost of paying them enough money to prevent them leaving.

The Stuga CNC Sawing Automat is a simple answer for the price of two electronic double mitre saws and the skills required to work it are few.

The Stuga saw not only produces forty-five and ninety degree cuts quickly and accurately but also utilises a self centring device to ensure a perfect arrowhead every time.

The Stuga CNC Sawing Automat

The machine comes with a fifteen bar infeed magazine for pre-loading 6.OM lengths and full offcut and swarf extraction equipment. In addition there is a highly recommended (and reliable) on-board label printer available and the machine can also be networked to the office I.T. system so that batches are fed directly from the office to the saw.

The machine is available with an on-board optimiser that will handle offcuts directly at the saw and use them immediately in the next batch. This works in conjunction with the office optimiser dramatically increasing efficiency .

Stuga machines are purchased direct from the British manufacturer, spare parts are all in stock, the engineers are factory trained and when required an engineer is guaranteed within 24 hours (during normal working hours).

The Stuga Saw Centre can be upgraded later to a full Flowline or work in tandem with a choice of Stuga prepping centres.

THE VERSATlLE EDGE

Conservatory Roof Systems are time consuming and complicated to fabricate and install - or are they! Fabricators and installers of the Versatile Roof System would have to disagree and so would Kevin Barnard, Director of Versatile Limited.

"The Versatile roof has always been simple to install, but when we invested in the "all new" Conservatory System, launched at Glassex 2001, we determined that the design would ensure even easier installation and make massive in roads into cutting fabrication time and stress, and our customers agree that we succeeded"

Manufactured from a mix of GRP and PVC components the Versatile Roof System provides fast, user friendly production methods, with a high level of 'jig' machining and fixings preparation. It also allows for a consistent 'engineered' finished product, that meets both trade and end customer reguirements.

Versatile director Kevin Bernard showing off his
new dentil mouldings

The design of a new dentil moulding provides an example of the versatility of the whole system. The moulding is supplied in strips, which simply need to be cut and attached with adhesive pads, but wherever the strips meet the design ensures no unsightly joins.

With over 28 years in the industry, Kevin is still astounded at the number of parts and fixings other manufacturers require to produce a conservatory roof. 'The Versatile System has only 8 major parts, with complete ease of fixing' says Kevin.

'All the bells and whistles a consumer could want are available, but without the usual multitude of clip-on items to get lost or forgotten in the packaging. This is a roof for total ease of handling and construction.'

In addition to the new dentil moulding, the system provides a box gutter option, which uses the ring beam gutter fixed onto a unique bracket supported wallplate system. A full range of PVC moulded end caps, with 'Fleur de Lys' motif, complete the roof glazing bars whilst the ring beam joints are covered with PVC mouldings
attached with adhesive pads to the gutter section.

Kevin concludes, 'Fabricators and installers searching for a creative alternative to other domestic roofs on the market will have a perfect opportunity to see for themselves just how Versatile our system is, by visiting stand A021 at Glassex 2002. Effortless, time saving benefits in all aspects of manufacture and construction, are our key components!'

BRASS EFFECT CONSERVATORY TIE-BAR
FROM ULTRAFRAME

Ultraframe, designer and manufacturer of conservatory roofing systems and accessories, has launched a new brass-effect tiebar.

Tie bars ensure the stability of a conservatory roof and as such are an important part of a roofs construction. However, the new brass tiebars have been designed to turn these vital conservatory components into an additional decorative element for the conservatory interior.

The tiebar takes the form of a decorative rose, which particularly lends itself to a traditional Victorian styled interior.

The tiebar is already available in white or brown options and the addition of the brass effect version now offers another option to those with a woodgrain conservatory. Furthermore, on a white conservatory it gives the option to match with the brass details on fans, roof vents and window and door hardware. All roses are available in three and five way modules as well as bespoke sizes.

'Perfection in glass': the GEZE-IGG system

The GEZE-IGG integrated glass system and the GEZE-MGG glass hardware system support the visual appeal of architectural design without breaking the aesthetic lines.

This system has no protruding fittings or heavy frame profiles. The GEZE-IGG system of full glass panes integrates the frame profiles and hardware system between the two panes of glass in a space measuring 17 or 27 millimetres. With GEZE-IGG, the entire hardware system is concealed behind a 45 mm wide strip. If the glass edges are printed to be impermeable to light over this width, the technical elements disappear completely. Different colours are available for printing the glass, enabling the glass to fit in with the essence of the building. With GEZE-IGG, all doors and drive types can be combined in one system. Whether you’re using telescopic sliding doors, folding doors or circular sliding doors, GEZE-IGG will find the right solution for any drive without spoiling the look of the system.

This innovative system is already being used in a number of prominent new buildings. At the Electronic Arts Centre just outside London, the versatility of the GEZE system was one of the crucial factors. The GEZE-IGG system allowed architect Norman Foster to design a steeply inclined sliding door entirely of glass creating a most unusual entrance.

Within this overall concept, the Slimdrive SL-IGG is the ideal enhancement to the GEZE system. With an installation height of just 7 cm and an installation depth of 185 mm, a wide range of different drive systems can easily be integrated into glass facades with the Slimdrive SL-IGG. In the new Berlin Ostbahnhof building the shopping passage in the Minerva House, GEZE-IGG is used to achieve a continuous aesthetic appeal. The advantages of the GEZE system can also be seen in the Cologne-Bonn airport terminal, completed in summer 2000.

In parallel to the development of GEZE-IGG, a hardware system for single glazing has also been produced. The system is characterized by the reduction of the individual components: the hardware system appears almost flat on the surface of the glass. The visible parts of GEZE-MGG are made from stainless steel and underline the functionality of the system. With GEZE-MGG, the planner has a hardware system in a standard design for swing, impact and sliding doors, partition walls and wall claddings.

PERMA-LED COATED LEAD FROM THERMOSEAL

The Thermoseal Group has launched Perma-Led coated lead, a new coated lead which is unique in the market place and promises to provide decorative glass manufacturers with both technical and aesthetic advantages. Thermoseal anticipate that demand for coated lead will continue to grow in the UK and that the product will open up new export markets for the company.

Thermoseal, the fastest growing UK supplier of double glazing consumables, has invested heavily in Perma-Led and has acquired extra premises. New plant has been commissioned, representing an investment of over £100,000. Installed at the end of October, the new equipment manufactures the lead using a new process which was developed in conjunction with a leading chemical supplier.

Rather than using the electrophoretic process – which is the normal way of manufacturing ‘antique’ lead – the new Thermoseal product is electrostatic. In addition to the coating, the lead is treated with a special laquer which gives it an extra aesthetic edge as the lead can be seen through the finish. It also makes the product more ‘operator friendly’ in terms of Health & Safety, an important consideration in the USA for example, where ‘naked’ lead has been banned.

The standard colours of the lead are clear, antique, brass and white but it can be matched to any colour a customer may require as long as the order is of sufficient quantity. ‘The product is extremely uv stable and also scratch resistant, which eliminates the common problem of coated lead oxidising where it has been scratched’, explains sales director Mark Hickox.

Thermoseal will be able to easily produce 10,000 reels of coated lead per month, with state of the art equipment at the new plant delivering consistent quality.
Harold Challis, production manager with Perma-led has played a key role in the development of this project and a sample group of Thermoseal customers have been very impressed with the new product. Samples distributed at the recent glass show in New Orleans also attracted a great deal of interest.

PVC SHEDS FROM ULTRAFRAME

Ultraframe has launched Ultrastore, a full range of PVC garden buildings and outdoor storage units. As leisure time becomes more increasingly sparse, consumers are demanding lower maintenance products and more than they get from a ‘conventional’ shed. These garden buildings and outdoor storage units - previewed at Glassex 2001 - meet the need for secure buildings that are spacious and aestheticaily pleasing.

Manufactured from 100% recycled PVC, the new Ultrastore collection offers a wide range of benefits. These easy to assemble buildings offer safe and secure domestic storage, are very low maintenance and look as good as any timber shed.

One of Ultraframe's new garden sheds, made from recycled PVC

The garden and storage buildings are available in five variations of size and design. The range starts with the Ultrastore 43 which, at 1256 mm x 906 mm x 1980 mm, is perfect for small gardens; going up to the Ultrastore 1010, at 3002 mm x 3002 mm x 2194 mm, which is large enough to store motorbikes, garden furniture, barbeques and ride-on mowers.

The buildings provide excellent storage solutions for tools, garden equipment, children’s playthings, bicycles and a host of other bulky items. A choice of accessories is available, allowing the buiidings to be tailored to individual requirements.

These comprise fioor, window and skylight kits - and, a dedicated modular tool racking system designed to make the most of the unit’s storage capacity.
The whole Ultrastore range comes with a gaivanised steel locking system and because each modular panel ‘zips’ together, extra security is built in. The doors on the larger units come primed, allowing them to be painted in keeping with their surroundings. All Ultrastore units can be set on either a wooden or concrete base.

NEW DRY-JOINT PARTITIONING FROM OPTIMA

Optima Partitioning has introduced a new dry-joint system based on the success of Optima silicone jointed framed and frameless glass partitioning.

This new development allows freedom of design with single and double-glazed framed or frameless partitioning, offering a fresh approach with this recyclable and environmentally sound jointing medium.

Produced from 2-part PETG clear plastic, the Optima dry-joint system offers a fluid visual appearance of ‘seamless’ glazing, which can be full height and combine hidden mullions and corners.

Not only does the dry-joint glazed partitioning system achieve a stunning interior effect but it is designed to accommodate the ever-changing demands of today’s world of commerce. Being fully demountable and relocatable, it can easily be moved when and where required. The new glazing system can be independent but Optima really comes into its own for the designer when a combination of solid and glass walls is required. The transition from solid to glass flows effortlessly together by way of a single, simple purpose-made component.

Optima Partitioning Systems has long been at the forefront of internal glazed partitioning development. The interior designer can use the Optima specification team with its back-up design service, knowing that all aspects of safety, structural stability and visual appearance have been considered and at realistic prices.

GET THE CLAMPS FROM BOHLE

A new programme of clamps for ordinary, laminated and toughened glass is displayed in Bohle's new catalogue.

As the trend in modern architecture increasingly favours the use of glass, clamps are gaining an ever-increasing range of applications, say Bohle.

With a brand new and expanded range of clamps, Bohle aims to provide just the right products for glaziers, builders, metal workers and fulfil the designers and architects demands.

Using a special inserted shim system, the new range can be used for both toughened and laminated glass types, and are both type tested and approved to the German TUV and ETB standards (which correspond favourably to BS standards).

A wide range of finishes and colours are available, but the company expects the Stainless Steel V4A finish to be very popular. Peter Jacombs, field sales technician for Glass Hardware told us 'there is a clear move toward Stainless Steel with the designers, due to the clean yet solid visual it gives. The V4A grade we use is high end quality and matches other components, such as handrails, perfectly.'

With their continued expansion in this area Bohle have announced that whilst the programme has been extended and the quality levels still further enhanced the prices have remained the same as before.

For a free copy of the Clamp Catalogue call free on 0800 61 61 51, or visit the Bohle website at http://www.bohle.ltd.uk , where a search under the term 'clamps'will take you directly to the new products.

LOWEST EVER U-VALUE CLIMAPLUS

Saint-Gobain Glass has introuduced what it describes as the best insulating glass in the world: SGG CLIMAPLUS ULTRA.

With its new SGG CLIMAPLUS ULTRA double glazing, Saint-Gobain Glass has achieved a world first by obtaining the lowest heat loss coefficient (U-value) ever attained under normal manufacturing conditions. 1.0W/(m2K) for double glazing comprising two-4mm glass sheets and a 15 or 16-mm gap filled with 85% argon.

This exceptional result has been achieved through basic and applied research of Saint-Gobain Glass technical teams, developing an exclusive manufacturing process involving the deposit of a metallic coating layer with a silver base. This process can achieve performance levels which until now required more costly materials, such as dual-layer glass and krypton gas.
The coated glass manufactured through this unique process - SGG PLANITHERM ULTRA - is used to produce the SGG CLIMAPLUS ULTRA double glazing.

SGG PLANITHERM ULTRA is manufactured in Germany by Saint-Gobain Glass Deutschland and will shortly be available in all countries through local Saint-Gobain Glass sales teams, in annealed and laminated versions.
