Total Glass Holds Open Day in New 100,000sq ft Premises
To mark the company’s move to new 100,000 sq ft premises, Total Glass threw open its doors to around 160 customers and suppliers in May which was hailed as a 'great success' by MD Frank Deary. Throughout the Open Day and into the evening, a constant stream of visitors arrived to tour the extensive Liverpool-based production facilities where multi-million pound investment has reinforced the firm’s position as one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most successful window manufacturers and trade suppliers.

Ultraframe Posts Losses in First Half but Expects to be Back in Black in H2
Ultraframe Plc has announced its interim results for the 26 weeks ended 1 April 2005. Legal and restructuring costs coming in at a massive £3.6m for the period (which includes a £2.6m hit to cover the long running legal dispute with the Burnden Group/K2, which is expected to be concluded this month) and turnover in the UK down by 28% (with US sales slightly down after unfavourable exchange rates) have resulted in a post-exceptional losses of £6.2m. Gross margins are down from 51% to 40.8%.

Synseal Announces Record Increases in Sales
Synseal increased sales by £14m to £80m in the financial year to 31st March 2005. This is an increase of over 21% across the board, and conservatory sales are up 38%. ‘These figures would be good at any time – but in a difficult and demanding market,’ explains Malcolm Le Masurier, Synseal’s Managing Director, ‘these results are very pleasing.

Is Jeff Howell the New Esther Rantzen?
The business to business trade media has a duty to be frank and fearless in raising issues where more discussion is needed, and reporting 'bad' news alongside the good, without fear or favour. These are the basic principles of a free press. However, B2B reporting is all about facts and ill-informed opinion with little or no research has no relevance to the trade media - particularly when most of that media is published monthly. An inflammatory article which was hawked around most of the trade media (and turned down by all except one) has been 'leaked' to the national press - haven been given credence by its publication in a trade magazine - and has been picked up by the PVC-U window industry's modern nemesis Jeff Howell, a bricklayer by trade.

UK Industry told to Expect Higher Polymer Prices
EuPC president David Williams has said the UK industry should expect higher levels of polymer prices in future. Speaking in a conference at the Plastics Design and Moulding event in Telford, UK, Williams said: 'We have to recognise that inflation has been low for polymers – we have had a low level. In the 1960s the price of polymer was about £200 per tonne; in past couple of years £600 per tonne; now it’s about £800 per tonne.'

Solvay Signs Agreement to Sell Industrial Foils Business to Renolit
Solvay has signed a memorandum of understanding with Renolit A.G. aiming at the sale of its entire Industrial Foils business, active in the production, marketing and sales of plastic foils and sheets to Renolit. The agreed price for the transaction is EUR 330 million. This proposed transaction does not include Solvay’s rigid plastic foils activities, whose sale to Ineos was announced last January.
