Warns of 10% Profits Drop in Building Products Worldwide, but Good Performances
from UK and Automotive Maintain Expectations Overall
In a Trading Statement issued yesterday, Pilkington Glass Group Chief
Exec Stuart Chambers reported that Building Products (BP) markets remain
generally weak, with the exception of the UK and Australia. 'Efficiency
improvements and cost savings continue to mitigate the impact of weak
markets, though price pressures will result in operating profit for the
business line being approximately 10% down on last year. .

In our regular report on Company Notices and Liquidations last week we
made a rather off the cuff remark about the Coldseal Bryco conglomerate
which we have been well and truly corrected on. We are happy to report
that the new Coldseal appears to be a combination of all the good things
about Bryco and all the good things about Coldseal rolled together as
a national entity. What is more, the new company is already delivering
a healthy profit (according to January 2003 figures) and is keen to get
back into the conservatory market - but this time doing it properly.

Williams Takes it on the Chin with £61m Write-Offs
Heywood
Williams has reported losses of £71.8m for the financial
year 2003, £61m of which relates to goodwill write-offs.
The group has taken drastic action to reverse the slide: the DIY
window and door businesses and the composite door operations have
been closed, the UK head count has been reduced by 15%, and Coldseal,
Creation, Cestrum and Coastal have been sold off. Although share
prices did not move much on the announcement, no final dividend
has been recommended. On the positive side, Robert Barr is due
to join as group chief exec in the summer and the company has
announced a new system - the Elite 63 - and enhancements of the
Elite 70 suite with the introduction of a tilt-turn window.

Announces Intention to Float on AIM
Planet
PVC Group has announced it is looking to dramatically accelerate growth
via new franchised operations followed by a Stock Market flotation on
the Alternative Investment Market (AIM). Nationally the company is aiming

A Management Buyout of PVC-U window, door and conservatory fabricator,
Coastal, has been secured from the Heywood Williams Group effective from
1 March 2004. Coastal Windows Ltd is now a new privately owned company,
which will continue to trade under the Coastal brand name under the direction
of Jeremy Beling as Managing Director and Peter French as Sales &
Marketing Director.

Invests to Produce 100 Roofs per Week
Planet PVC Groups new £500,000 roofing factory based in Bamber
Bridge near Preston is now up and running, with production gearing up
for the manufacture of over 100 thermally efficient roofs per week. The
new factory, which has resulted in a four-year supply agreement with Ultraframe,
has created 25 new jobs with another ten likely to be created before the
end of the year.

Ltd has announced the retirement of Tony Berwick; Tony had been the
company's MD for 10 years and owner for five of them. Lawrence Breakspear,

Glass Invests Over Half A Million in Dedicated Disabled Production Line
Liverpool
based fabricator Total Glass Ltd is investing £560,000 in a sixth
production line that will be modified to be operable by disabled workers.
As well as increasing production capacity by 25 per cent, Total Glass
will work with the local Knowsley Council in the creation of better working
opportunities for the disabled.
