Quality Support!
CWG have just upgraded their support package to provide new literature
for their trade customers. The new support literature is aimed at assisting
trade customers with their quest for increased business in an even more
competitive market.
The
new support literature has been designed with a more versatile overprinting
method called 'Foil Blocking' which enables the customer to a wider choice
of colour and style. The brochures can be overprinted with a gloss, matt
or even a metallic finish. The metallic foil really complements the modern
style brochures and is increasingly popular with CWG customers. This method
can be applied on both brochures, dropcards and Product Care and Operation
Guide.
The dropcards have been designed for simplicity, simple for canvassers
to push through the letterbox, simple to read and fill in. The Product
Care and Operation Guide completes the set. Again following through the
design with its vibrant colours and glossy looks, it's simple, easy to
follow; everything a homeowner will need to maintain their windows, doors
and conservatories
With a new modern design and images taken on location at properties of
homeowners in varying finishes and styles supplied by the groups many
installer customers, CWG hopes that the new literature will generate interest,
enquiries and sales for busy trade customers. The brochures, dropcards
and Product Care and Operation Guide clearly illustrate the choice, appearance
and versatility of the selection of PVCu windows, doors and conservatories
available.
Not only is the new literature versatile but also cost effective compared
to normal overprinted literature. The recommended overprinting is that
of a customer's address details along with the company's logo if required
at a very modest cost. If further information is required please contact
Debs Morrison on 01536 409100 at CWG for a specification sheet.

Duraflex
Specifies A New Initiative
An updated and extended version of the Duraflex Specification Binder covering
the company's fully integrated PVCu systems is now available. The guide
provides an aid for specifiers, and can also be used as a professional
presentation tool for fabricators. New additions to the Binder include
Part L testing procedures and results for the Duraflex Diamond Suite,
plus details of completed projects in both the public and private sector.
The
Binder can also be used by fabricators to present to specifiers or as
a technical aid when selling to smaller fabricators or installers. Product
sheets are grouped in combinations for either the 65mm or the new 70mm
system, with a complete set of options for each size, such as featured,
bevelled, internally or externally glazed. This flexible concept and convenient
loose leaf format means the contents can easily be adapted to suit individual
requirements.
Fabricators can simply remove entire sections or change the sequence as
appropriate to feature only those products relevant to their particular
offering. They can even add in their own customised pages to personalise
the Binder and promote their own brand and services.
'The key objective for the new Binder was to include Part L information,
together with new products and case studies which demonstrate the benefits
of our advanced system for a wide range of applications from social housing
refurbishments to new build,' explains Roland Jones,
Commercial Sales Manager at Duraflex.

Securistyle Specifiers Guide Tells All
A Window on Success Best Practice CPD Guide and Folder, the comprehensive
literature that addresses in detail all the common problems associated
with window hardware specification, have been up dated and re-launched
by Securistyle in light of changes to four British Standards.
Free to specifiers in the commercial, local government and social housing
sectors, the two pieces of literature, which have both been certified
as conforming to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) guidelines,
highlight the most cost effective ways to draw up a good window specification.
The content of the documents focuses on what specifiers should consider
when selecting a safe, secure window that is going to perform well in
the long-term and that meets all legislative requirements.
According to Nick Haskins, who heads Securistyle's specification team,
the ever changing needs of legislation, means that there is a very definite
need for the provision of impartial and objective information to allow
specifiers to make an informed choice.
He says: 'There are a number of amendments to British Standards which
have come or are coming into force this year and will have an effect on
correct window specification. The guide and folder provide guidance on
how to comply with these changes, which include the new requirement of
BS8213 that all windows manufactured as 'standards' should be now fitted
with safety restrictors and BS7412 regarding improved corrosion resistance.'
The 12-page Best Practice Guide incorporates a number of sections including
Best Value, security, safety, fire egress and guarantees. There is also
a section which has been dedicated to providing a working example of how
an area has benefited from acting upon Securistyle's specific recommendations.
To conclude, information on current standards and legislation is displayed
and a self-assessment record sheet, which can be completed by those wishing
to record further learning and knowledge enhancement for CPD purposes,
is included.
The comprehensive Best Practice Folder is split into three separate sections
- specification, selection and solution.
The specification section includes briefing sheets on Best Value in hardware
selection, BS7950 and security, child safety, fire egress, corrosion and
stainless steel hardware, key speaker notes and technical questions and
answers, which are designed to transform complex issues into simple terminology.
In addition, there is a selection section in the form of a technical manual
and interactive CD ROM with an additional glossary of terms. The solution
section, which gives an overview of Securistyle's involvement in the social
housing sector, considers global issues on Best Practice and highlights
the benefits of hardware selection.
A copy of the Window on Success Best Practice CPD Guide can be obtained
by calling Maria Fatica of Securistyle on 01242 221200.

Back
to School with Profile 22
Head teachers and college principals considering window and door refurbishments
at their premises are getting an education from Profile 22 on making better
maintenance choices.
The systems company has launched a detailed leaflet offering specification
advice to decision-makers on the benefits of replacement PVCu windows
and doors. It also provides information on a complete service from design
to fitting and guides the reader through the entire window and door replacement
process.
Aimed
at educationalists with responsibility for capital maintenance repair
budgets, the leaflet explains issues from structural integrity to Health
and Safety considerations. It also highlights product types and options,
along with a description of features.
'We are offering schools and colleges a free design service, including
structural calculations, saving them thousands of pounds in consultancy
fees,' explains Terry Cattell, Profile 22's Contracts Manager.
'We will follow up inquiries with a visit to the school and produce a
proposal, taking into account design, any structural considerations and
specification detail. We then recommend a suitable Profile 22-approved
fabricator to carry out the work,' says Terry.
He adds: 'There is a huge potential in this market and head teachers cannot
be expected to be experts in choosing windows on top of everything else
involved in running a school. Hence our new service aimed at helping them
to get the best for their building and the best out of their budgets.'
Gary Millership is the company's Specification Engineer responsible for
advising on crucial aspects of design, including structural calculations,
aesthetics and what is feasible.
Explains Gary: 'There is a lot to consider because of the nature of an
educational building. It is a high traffic area involving the potential
dangers of impacts against glass with footballs, or usually bricks!
'Health and Safety on site is particularly important in schools as working
areas have to be boarded off and kept safe. Scaffolding platforms must
be secure and isolated or dismantled before the end of the day to prevent
kids from swinging on them,' he adds.
Security, safety and maintenance benefits of PVCu windows and doors are
also covered, along with the impact of greater energy efficiencies and
the revised requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations

EN
Fire Test to Open up New Markets for UK Manufacturers
The UK timber fire door industry is well placed to take advantage of the
'opportunity afforded by the new test standards', said Jon Osborn, author
of a new guidance document from TRADA Technology Ltd. Fire resistant doorsets:
maintaining performance under the new European test standard,' exposes
the myths and supports the truths'.
Mr Osborn will argue that under the European standards 'there are no new
ways of failing a fire test. The problems are not new. There are issues
to be addressed, but they have all surfaced before and manufacturers have
found solutions before.'
The publication is the result of a DTI/DETR-sponsored research project.
It explains the primary differences between the new test and British standards
currently in force and lists the three key changes which will affect performance:
the temperature control and monitoring devices; the furnace pressure regime
during the test; and the requirement for cyclic testing of doorsets before
the fire test is conducted.
To achieve BS EN rating manufacturers will have to make a 'significant
investment of resources', Mr Osbom wrote in his summary. 'But they are
all in the same boat. Many will have the same problems to address as their
competitors, which should serve to maintain a level playing field, not
only in the UK, but across Europe. And the rewards will be the opening
up of new markets."
'Fire resistant doorsets: maintaining performance under the new European
test standard' costs £10.00 to TRADA members or £15.00 to
non-members.

Truseal
now Offers DurasealTM Brochure
TruSeal
Technologies, Inc., a specialist in flexible spacer technology for insulating
glass (i.g.), has recently released a brochure on DuraSeal, a flexible
spacer system constructed using Composite Laminating Technology.
'The brochure details how DuraSeal's patent pending design incorporates
unique materials and is a breakthrough in continuous composite manufacturing
processes. DuraSeal takes optimum advantage of laminates and adhesives
to reduce thermal conductivity while improving surface and corner appearance
over other flexible spacers. This multi-layered spacer system featuring
specialised components results in superior window performance and aesthetics
over other warm edge spacers.' says the company.
DuraSeal's flexibility allows window manufacturers to produce both standard
and speciality windows with a single spacer system, providing a solution
for all applications and reducing the need to segregate high volume rectangles
from often profitable shapes and specials.
The brochure also focuses on how DuraSeal's higher volume spool packaging
allows
manufacturers to produce more units with less downtime and waste. This
results in fewer changeovers, which translates into higher production
efficiency. Also, additional spacer per spool increases the packaging
density, yielding more products per truckload and lowering freight costs.

Kawneer's
'Thermal Regulations' CD-Rom Guides Architects Through Doc L
A new 'Thermal Regulations' CD-Rom is available from Kawneer to assist
architects and specifiers in the specification of thermally efficient
fenestration, in line with the amended Building Regulations for England,
Wales and Scotland.
The
CD has been developed to guide architects through Document L (England
and Wales) and Document J (Scotland), helping them identify the areas
of the amended Regulations that pertain to their individual needs and
have an impact on windows and curtain walling. For particular subject
areas, the CD also identifies additional sources ofinformation, such as
publications and industry bodies.
Commenting on the CD, David Taylor, Kawneer's new product development
manager, say's 'We wanted to allay some of the anxiety that architects
are currently experiencing about the new building regulations. With this
CD we aim to guide architects through the areas concerning fenestration
products that are of particular relevance to them. We have tried to bring
some clarity to the subject and hopefully show that it is not as complicated
a subject as everyone first feared.'
As well as providing an overview to the Regulations, the CD includes a
presentation that takes each of the relevant fenestration-related areas
in turn and provides concise explanatory notes, advice and practical examples
about the subject area. Subjects covered include: the individual methods
of compliance for both commercial and domestic buildings, ways of meeting
the requirements, avoidance of thermal bridging, limitation of air leakage,
trade offs between other construction elements, etc.
A separate presentation focuses specifically on the thermal assessment
ofwindows, doors and curtain walling. The standards relating to each type
of fenestration are identified and described, and advice is provided as
to their appropriate usage. Sample calculations are also given in relation
to typical frame/glazing and frame/insulated panel configurations.
