It's been some years since the term 'Super Fabricator' was first coined but the predicted change in the hierarchy of the window business - where manufacturers would dominate the market at the expense of plain extruders - has, by and large, not come to pass. However, with the launch last week of Speed Frame's proprietory Kömmerling system - Platinum - it would appear that the debate is still very much alive.

Veka Advert
Although not the only 5 chamber system on the market - LB Plastics launched one earlier in the year - it is certainly the first in the UK to be extruded solely for one manufacturer. The launch of the system at Speed Frame's Goldthorpe HQ was attended by top management from Kömmerling and a 'Who's Who' of the machinery and hardware markets as well as a full house of prospective customers. After all these years, we finally have a case of what used to be called 'the tail wagging the dog'.
Coincidentally, we also have details of an interesting new report from Mike Rigby on - you guessed it - the rise of the Super Fabricator!
Deceuninck Advert

Tony Higgin Since we have followed with some interest the Clash of the Titans which was the takeover bid by Alcan for Pechiney, it is with some relief that there appears to finally be some closure on this issue, after a third offer which promised no more redundancies was agreed by the French firm.

Finally, we hear that Chris Owen from Wendland - who was pictured in the newspages of The Gl@zine only last week
, in an item about Gary Morton's new business - has departed from Brian Kennedy's Latium Group, to be replaced by one Graham Fisher, more about whom we shall report in due course.

The constantly changing market, new technical infrastructures such as high speed WAN networks, affordable and powerful servers as well as educated system administrators bring IT centralization back into consideration. By Horst Mertes, Lisec Software.
