Vitrum 2003: Good Show Plagued by Poor Attendance (and Mosquitoes)
Moving Vitrum to the end of June was always a bit of a risk, and for a number of reasons attendance appears to have been badly affected (up to 20% down on 2001). A shame, really, because the amount of exhibitor space was up and, in the absence of much of the glass element of former years, this show has become an unmissable event for anyone interested in glass processing machinery.

Veka Advert
Likewise, the UK contingent offered a good showing in terms of exhibitors, but there were fewer visitors from the UK - and Northern Europe in general. This all bodes well for GP&T in November, which may well offer the alternative required for 2003, although the organisers will have to think long and hard about the timing of the 2005 show, when Vitrum goes back to its usual October spot.
Deceuninck Advert

Tony Higgin Naturally we will be producing a fuller report on Vitrum in due course. In the meantime, we have some interesting news on the glass front this week, with two manufacturers announcing completion of coating plants. The pieces of the jigsaw are gradually being put in place to form a highly competitive market for both self-clean and soft coat low-e products. Oh, and for those of you with more money than sense (which nowadays probably means nobody), we introduce you to the Krug Room at the London Dorchester, where Saint Gobain's Priva-Lite has been used to spare your blushes. Funny how it's always glass making the headlines - come on you frame people!
