There's Always Another County to be Heard From
Or, to put it another way, there is no reason why people holding opposing views can't still be civil to each other. Now that Glassex 2003 is well and truly behind us, one of the things we can reflect on is the prevailing opinion that the 'Quality' of Visitors had improved despite there being fewer of them. Indeed, I can't remember seeing any fist-fights break out in the aisles this year, nor anyone being stretchered out with alcohol poisoning, so I guess that's an improvement on the 'Quality' side....

Which brings me to the fact that we have two 'Emails to the Editor' this week - both about the same thing! We cheated a bit though: having received a rather dire warning from Richard Yule about the PVC-U industry taking over the world, we felt it only right to allow the subject of his fears - the forthcoming Glass Processing & Technology Show - to pen a response.

Tony Higgin The result is a very good example of the kind of balanced reporting which characterises good journalism. By the same token, we have news stories this week on no fewer than five of the major conservatory roof manufacturers.

WE HAVE EMAIL

Is GP&T Already Selling out to the PVC-U Window Industry?
I write about the scope and purpose of the forthcoming 'Glass Processing & Technology Exhibition' in November of this year. Over many years I have witnessed Glassex become a PVCu system company's exhibition where the true 'glassmen' (to borrow a term from Clifford Rankin) have slowly, but surely, been elbowed out.

WE HAVE MORE EMAIL!

All Exhibitors at GP&T are Glass People as Far as I Can See
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Richard Yule's letter in the same edition. I will deal with the points raised in turn.
Richard makes reference to Glassex, and how the 'glassmen' have been 'elbowed out.' There is much sympathy within the glass industry for this view, and indeed, is a key reason for the launch of Glass Processing & Technology, which is to take place on 11th, 12th and 13th November at the NEC.
