PART L ARCHIVE

Charity
Bolton based, industrial company The Burnden Group plc, provided its support at two recent fund raising events

Fabricators
Established in 1986, Cladwinds Ltd. are based in the Woburn Rd. Industrial Estate in Bedford and fabricate Eurocell’s Ultimate 70mm Window System. Currently the company makes around 150-200 windows a week but recent investment in a new factory has allowed capacity to be increased to 400 per week.

Literature
Synseal has produced a sixty page hardback book full of product information and illustrations of conservatories

Now 'D-Day' is only a matter of weeks away, some serious questions that need to be asked of the Scottish GGF, The Scottish Executive and other local bodies are:-
* How successful has the introduction of the legislation been?
* How has non compliance been tackled? How can it be detected without self assessment or inspection?
* Will all systems have to use soft coat or argon fill to comply?

* What are the current issues regarding the quality problems associated with toughening soft coat glass?
* What will be the effect on the Scottish IGU market if everything has to be soft coat or Argon fill?
* The price of sealed units (if the above is the case) will have doubled in the space of 12 months. This gives the 'cowboys' who ignore the regulations a real competitive edge on price versus the 'good guys'. How can this be policed?
* Will the new values be effective from March 3rd on orders or installations?

We wait with interest for the answers to the above, as they will no doubt need to be asked again in the rest of the UK. In the meantime, we hear of a Scottish fabricator who has already met the requirements of Part J.

Other items of interest this week: free health and safety training from the GGF; Win a weekend to Bruges with Decoroc; a Proposal for a Glass Recycling British Standard and news of Offsite 03, an interesting exhibition at the BRE.
