Profits and Collaborations

Mixed news from the construction sector this week, with Costain profits up 2%, but clearly at a price since turnover was up 23%. Better results at housebuilder Persimmon, where profits were up 62% for the six months to June, still climbing on the back of low interest rates. In the window industry, meanwhile, Heywood Williams are still well on track to turn in a profit, and in fact would have done had they not had to make a provision for the profile discolouration problem and litigation associated with it.

Other stories this week show an interesting trend towards collaboration. AWS Group has joined forces with local installation company Betterglaze Windows Ltd, while Warmseal has joined forces with door panel manufacturer Hallmark Group, in both cases as part of a two way supply contract. This seems a fairly new departure to us, but perhaps it goes on all the time without people announcing it. I would be happy to hear from companies who are collaborating in this way, to include in a feature.
