The Future is Green
Yesterday around 70 members of the PVC-U window industry gathered at the invitation of Epwin founder Jim Rawson and VEKA MD Dave Jones to kickstart the new marketing initiative PVCaware.org, Calling on other window, door and conservatory fabrication and installation companies to sign up to this recycling based initiative, Jim Rawson called for the industry to stem the losses of post consumer PVC waste (reckoned to be about 42,000 tonnes pa) by taking advantage of the information on the PVCAware.org website and recycling instead of dumping into landfill.

Veka Advert

This one action would improve PVC-U's green credentials, save money and at the same time give salespeople at the sharp end something to explain with pride to the modern environmentally concerned homeownwer.

Our Conservatory Website
This is without doubt an important first step and congratulations to Epwin and VEKA for getting it off the ground. The motives behind the launch are certainly bigger than just increasing business for the two companies' recycling facilities and both are to be applauded for the time and resources they have already put into the project.

Ultraframe Advert

Now it's up to the industry to pick up the ball and run with it - first and foremost by visiting the website, http://www.pvcaware.org, filling in the (very short) questionnaire and signing up. We support this initiative at The Gl@zine and will continue to bring you news of its progress. We hope that it will grow to embrace all aspects of Sustainability as it develops, to set a benchmark for the window industry as a whole that it is possible to set out a 'green stall' for today's consumer.

It's Time PVC-U Stood Up For Itself
I agree with the comments in your leader. It's not a debate that PVC has framed, but over the last 10 years, as Keith Nurcombe's letter (Gl@zine 3rd June) makes clear, timber has been on the attack and PVC has made a poor job of putting the record straight. There has been much accurate research in that time, and we do have many objective truths, you'll be pleased to hear. But what we cannot do is continue to soak up the punches. It is time PVC stood up for itself. Sam Kennedy, Managing Director, Spectus Window Systems

Best Kept Secret Ever
House prices going down, mortgages hard to get, petrol prices going up. These are all you hear about in the news at the moment. You never hear of good things like: cars and houses are cheaper and so on. It's because they do not make good news and also it's because we are in a sort of a resession.
