Glassex - a Modest Success
Well, Glassex seems to have survived for another year, and good job too. There will no doubt still be all sorts of arguments about what to do next year - and whether or not GP&T has shot itself in the head or just in the foot - but for now I think a collective pat on the back is in order. We feature a number of comments and reviews here.

Veka Advert

Other news does happen in Glassex week of course - quite a bit of it this week as it goes. The buyer of Plastmo has been revealed as Eurocell, although they had to buy it off a company called Sprinter 1233 who had rather niftily rescued it from the receivers. A five year supply contract with Safestyle is part of the deal.

Door Stop International

Elsewhere, Synseal has built yet another factory, this time dedicated to the manufacture of composite doors as 'Door Stop International Ltd'. On the acquisition front, Stillwater Group has bought Lincolnshire Architectural Glazing, Siegenia Aubi has purchased cylinder lock manufacturer, FCV and Cornwall Glass has acquired Yeovil Glass & Window Centre.

Finally, our congratulations to all the London Marathon runners, but a special heads up to Sue Bentley, Commercial Administrator at Kash 'n' Karry Sealed Units Ltd, who managed it in just under 6 hours. Her inspirational story is below, and it's not too late to donate to her charity!

Investing without Risk?
I agree with David Scholefield (Moving forwards or backwards, Gl@zine, April 8th 2008). It is important to invest so customers have the best products at the best price and stay ahead of the market. And we're delighted that Oakland is doing well. Matthias Meissner Managing Director, Swisspacer

Seize New Ways and Means
I was interested to read the article "Why invest in costly machinery" by Matthias Meissner of Swisspacer. I agree that a change to a spacer system that only adds to costs without providing essential benefits is certainly not advisable. Bill Weaver, VP Sales & Marketing, GED Integrated Solutions

GLASSEX 2008 REVIEW (Part 1)

Glassex 2008 Silences (some of) the Doubters
Glassex has survived! The 2008 outing of the UK's premier glass and window show has - ostensibly - done enough to make it a no-brainer for next year. With a revised format across three days instead of four (and still attracting as many visitors as last year), no Sunday opening and a continental style late night opening on the middle day, Glassex proved a successful mix for most visitors and exhibitors. We hear from some key exhibitors in Part 1 of our Glassex Review 2008.
[See Review Part 1 Here]

Fensterbau vs Glassex
The Following exchange of views took place between Dave White, MD of FUX Machinery UK and Dave Broxton, sales director of Glassex, concerrning the relative merits of taking stands at Fensterbau and Glassex, which were too close for comfort for many visitors this year, let alone exhibitors.
