Paying Lip Service to the Environment

THE GL@ZINE has not been alone in expressing its doubts about how much genuine commitment to the Kyoto agreement really exists. In some ways, the outright refusal by the USA to have anything whatsoever to do with it is refreshingly candid, compared to what many see as lip service by other Western Governments.

PART L ARCHIVE

Comprehensive information on the current and potential recycling opportunities for recovered glass is now available in a major report commissioned and published by WRAP

The UK government has managed to fashion Part L out of Kyoto, a neat trick if the real motive is to regulate the construction industry and the non-taxable cash economy which exists within it. Of course increased regulation is welcome in some areas - such as Health and Safety - but how much money is being spent in employing more HSE officers, who would undoubtedly save peoples' lives, compared to the amount of money which is being wasted in tracking down 'major international criminals' such as (tax-losing) cigarette smugglers?

And if the Environment is really the issue, what is the UK and European record on Recycling? Or is this just more lip service. As an example of how brittle the relationship is between environmental concerns and the concerns of the business world, please read this story about the closure of Ireland's only glass recycling plant. And check out our photovoltaics page for a refreshing reminder that commerce and the environment can co-exist
. And what of alternative materials? How do they stack up in the recycling stakes. This week we have more on Pultec and some news on another alternative, Strandex

Anyway, enough of the soapbox. This week we have a new CV on our JOBSHOP and also an offer which the WEEKLY Gl@zine has great pleasure in bringing you first: Sunblinds suppliers are being invited to participate, free of charge, in a marketing initiative in which they can have a free listing on - and website link to - a popular home improvement website.

You don't want to wait until after the holidays to book for Glasstec, so here is the tour package from Pressplan
