The news this week - old news really in that it happened before Christmas
- that Style Group has unloaded its trade division will for some
add fuel to the argument that we are all still going to hell in a handcart.
The truth in this instance seems a bit more measured however, and appears a genuine example of a group deciding to concentrate on its core assets - in Style Group's case, its apparently highly profitabe Safestyle retail division.
Elsewhere, we hear from the Builders Merchants Federation that there has been a 'slowdown' in sales of building materials, down 4.4% during the last three months of 2007, when compared with the same period in 2006. Sales were also down by 10.6% when compared with the preceding three month period, July to September 2007.
