Good and Bad News for Hardware
The European Commission is up to its old tricks again - with its investigations into the glass industry still ongoing, it has decided to wade into another industry sector - window and door hardware. At this stage no details have been given about which companies were visited by officials last Tuesday, the 3rd of July.

Veka Advert
This comes at a time when things were looking up for the European hardware industry, as China has cut a swathe of tax rebates for Chinese manufactured export goods which were increasing their competitiveness over European products by up to 17.5%, according to an article this week by Martin Johnson, MD of Nico.

A reminder! The next meeting of the glazing industry's favourite networking event, Publicity in Glazing or 'PIGS', will take place on Wednesday 18th July - a change from the traditional Thursday. The new venue, the Savoy Tup, promises real ale and an easy location in Covent Garden.

Finally, if you have not yet signed the 5% VAT Petition, shame on you! The Government has said it will look into the issue of ESR windows, and in his new role as a PM Brown may well up this in priority. Go to: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/reduced-VAT to add your name to the growing list. There are some notable omissions from those who've signed - are you one of them?
