It's a Green, Green World
Change may sometimes be a long time coming, but, when it does, the pace of that change can sometimes be rapid, especially in business. The latest example of this is the green bandwagon: after years of inactivity in the UK, suddenly the environment is a political football and consumers are actually more likely to buy products with green credentials.

Veka Advert
And without being too cynical. I guess that's the point: it has finally become a selling proposition to the British homeowner in the way it has been in Germany for over 10 years. And if using a consumer fad to sell windows happens to coincide with saving the planet, all well and good...

Synseal Roof Kits

So it is this week we learn that VEKA has set up a recycling facility in the UK for the first time (although initially the sawn up bits will be sent to the German plant for refining), and in addition to its existing PVC off-cuts collection and recycling service, L.B. Plastics has now become a Waste Licensed Broker, as well as being a licensed waste carrier.
Ultraframe Advert

Recovinyl recycler Dekura has stepped up its sustainable approach by investing in two new regional satellite operations to help further minimise the company's impact on the environment, and two more window companies have joined the ISO14001 club: Swish Building Plastics and Mumford & Wood.

Edgetech Super Spacer

Following on from our report on the government's Energy White Paper last week, the GGF has announced it will be setting up a Working Party, Edgetech has issued the results of a test of its Triseal product with Jumbo sheets, and Thermoseal has entered the fray with its own 'energy campaign' around its Thermix TX-N product.

Saint Gobain Planitherm

Last but not least, don't miss our Special Features this week (under News): we have some very interesting information from Kate Ashley Norman in Turkey, where it seems there is a very real opportunity for UK window companies.

Bring on DERs, says Rockdoor
It is easy to see why so many companies are jumping on the composite door bandwagon. Composite doors are the next big thing and the biggest area of growth is the domestic retail market. But instead of helping the market grow, many companies are offering composite doors that undermine price and value rather than a product that offers homeowners performance and value for money.
