The Three day Working Week

After making the most of the sunshine we had on Saturday and Sunday, and then being able to catch up on those the usual Bank Holiday chores not just on the following Monday but the Tuesday as well, it made me think that a Three Day Working Week may not be such a bad thing. Anyway, I hope you all had a splendid weekend. Monarchist or not, no UK citizen could help but feel a tinge of emotion as Concorde flew over with the Red Arrows (if you missed it, see picture right).

Long to rain over us
A light drizzle did not deter around a million people from gathering in The Mall yesterday to see the spectacle which was The Queen's Golden Jubilee (Gawd Bless yer Ma'm).

Finale was the flypast of the Best of British Air Arm, including Concorde and the Red Arrows. Presumably the presence of the Eurofighter was a polite nod to the EC! Anyway, big up to the Queen and max respect for keeping it all together for 50 years.

MBA Case Study 6
Established over 22 years ago, this company fabricated and fitted around 450 frames a week, exclusively into its own Local Authority market. However, in 1978, the local authority put all refurbishment work out to tender. Overnight, they were forced to cut prices by 25%, in order to win the business which had been theirs as a matter of course. The net result was rocketing overheads, spiralling of debt, and a collapse in quality. Read how MBA dealt with this case

Anyway, I hope coming back to work isn't too much of a shock. This week's issue is deliberately a bit lighter than usual, acknowledging the fact that you now have to do a week's work in three days, which is, of course, the rather unwelcome flipside of a four day weekend.

Leading the news this week are the financial statements from Pikington and Glaverbel, which show an interesting picture of the glass industry worldwide. Also this week we have the sixth in our series of case histories from the MBA, which I hope you have been following. If not, they are all here.
