The announcement in the Chancellor's Budget recognising Window
Energy Ratings as an important part in the fight against global warming
has got the whole window industry in a right old state, with everyone
claiming their part in achieving this landmark recognition.
It
would be safest to say that everyone's efforts were instrumental, from
the Edgetech, Synseal (and Gl@zine) campaigns to
get 5% VAT on energy saving windows, though the GGF and BFRC
lobbying behind the scenes, to the efforts of John Ogilvie, Andy Jones,
Rick Wilberforce, Paul Jervis and others who sat through months of Glazing
Strategy Group Meetings. Well done to all of you, and let's hope
it doesn't just turn out to be more government hot air!
Housebuilding is back on the agenda (when is it not?, you may ask), with the potential merger between Taylor Woodrow and George Wimpey set to create the UK's largest house-builder, 'a clear indicator of the growing economic and political importance of the industry' says the NHBC.
Meanwhile,
responding to official Government figures which show
that new housing in England is projected to be 223,000
per year up to 2026, Executive Chairman of the Home
Builders Federation (HBF), Stewart Baseley, says:
‘These figures provide an urgent reminder of the
chronic shortage of housing this country faces'.
