A
Crisis of Confidence?
With
the news last week that this 37 year old company - part of the Latium
Group since 2001 - has hit the skids, with the loss of 275 jobs,
questions are being asked about the role of the OFT in bringing about
a loss of confidence in the company, and failing to help stem its recent
demise. However,
the role of owner Brian Kennedy must also be
called into question, with comments from him suggesting
that he had little to do with the day-to-day running
of the company at the same time as regretting the loss
of his investment in the company. Directors and staff
at some of the more recent Latium acquisitions
will surely be looking for a more hands-on approach
from Mr Kennedy in the light of this failure. The
announcement that Laird Security Systems (LSS)
is being sold off raises an interesting spectre: in
the shape of Greg Hutchings, the man behind buyer
Lupus Holdings. Mr Hutchings was the empire
builder behind 'guns and buns' conglomerate Tomkins
in the 1980s and already owns Schlegel, which
makes for an interesting fit with LSS. Watch this
space, as they say....
Finally, we have a new Glassex Review section below, with a number of additional companies reporting on how their Glassex was for them - and by and large it seems to have paid off for most. If you have not yet submitted your Glassex experiences, please do so to news@theglazine.com. |

has introduced a range of updated literature to assist its customers

roofs. The updated brochures are the Surveyor's Guide, Formulae
Guide, Conservatory Directory and the Essential Guide to Conservatories. A new brochure has been produced by Carl
F Petersen Ltd, the specialist distributor of window
and door fittings. The literature presents the comprehensive range
of Fuhr multi-point locking door bolts. Hardware distributor, Wagner,
has introduced a new full colour product guide for its range of
fanlight window gear.
