More Ups than Downs?
From our first three news stories this week, you would be forgiven for thinking that the window industry is in the middle of a boom. The truth of course, is not quite as rosy, but it is good to see that the sales volumes - if not double digit profitability - are still out there for companies who are getting it right, such as Network Veka, Advantage and the Profine Group. Somewhat ominously, meanwhile, the BPF has this week set up a new website aimed to help facilitate the buying and selling of plasics companies...

A couple of reminders this week: time is running out to get tickets for Conservatory Outlet's Charity Ball, which is taking place at Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium on Saturday September 30th. Tickets are £49 each and it's for a good cause. We also hear from another company who have been shortlisted for the G-06 Awards - AG Glass. If you haven't already bought tickets for this event, which is at the Birmingham Metropole on Friday 15th September, you may still be lucky enough to get a seat.

Now summer is effectively over for most of us, it is time - at least for the glass and glazing element of our readership - to turn its attention to the world's biggest and best exhibition for this market sector - glasstec, in Düsseldorf, which runs from 24th-28th October. We shall be running an ongoing preview of the show, starting next week, so if you are exhibiting, and haven't already sent in editorial details of your stand presentation, please do so, to news@theglazine.com. Thank you.

Edgetech Rubbishes Thermix 'Slur'
In a recent press release we offered the window industry a snapshot of the WERs achieved by different spacer bars, based on independent research by approved BFRC simulator, Build Check Ltd. Now Ravensburg-based ENSINGER GmbH, manufacturer of metal spacer bar Thermix, has written to magazines to suggest that this report and another by the GGF are biased. No doubt the GGF and Build Check will comment directly on this slur but I would like to counter some of the claims made.
