Signs
of The Times
Even more a sign of these modern times is the announcement - only weeks after The Gl@zine reported the 'virtual marriage' between Sash and VEKA after 20 years trading with each other - that Sash has, how shall we say, erm... 'gone over the side', and is now enjoying a bigamous relationship with Spectus. Dave Ruzicka, joint MD of Sash, explains that all parties are very happy with the arrangement and that he would recommend it to others. It's also answered our question about the tail wagging the dog. We learn that this year's G-Awards has been the tightest to judge so far: 'After much scrutinizing of a massively increased inbox of entries, the judges have been able to come up with their shortlists in the 12 award categories for this year', explains organiser Tony Higgin. 'The quality has been extremely high and consistent throughout, forcing some very tight verdicts from the adjudicating panel. So much so, that in one category, Glass Company of the Year, the number of finalists was extended to four', he adds. The winners will be presented with their awards at the G 06 Awards Presentation Gala Dinner being held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on September 15th and hosted by top entertainer Alistair McGowan. The breakdown of finalists can be found here. Finally, for industry old timers, our People section has some welcome news this week: gainful employment has been found for Neil Roberts and Gary Firth and Steve Packer has finally been drummed out of the industry. |
