Price Fixing Spacer Bar Cartel Fined

Only two years after getting fined by the OFT for price fixing activities in the supply of desiccants, some of the key companies in the double glazing consumables market have landed themselves in trouble again.

In 2004, fines totalling over £2.4m (reduced to £1.7m on leniency) were imposed after the OFT found that the main supplier to the UK market, UOP Ltd, fixed the price of IG desiccant with four of its distributors, UKae, Thermoseal Supplies, Double Quick Supplyline (DQS) and Double Glazing Supplies Group (DGS).

It was also announced that 'the OFT's investigations into cartel activity in the double glazing industry form part of its wider enforcement activities in relation to the construction industry, one of the five priority areas identified in the OFT's Annual Plan.'

Like, the OFT hasn't always been crawling all over the glass and glazing industry?
