Making the Right Move

It was only ever a matter of time before the impact of recent Building Regulation revisions, such as Part L and Part P, came home to roost as part of the required paperwork in buying and selling a house, hence the government inspired 'Home Information Pack' or HIP.

Whether the motivation behind these Building Regs was more about 'nanny state' or plugging the tax free holes of the black economy of the construction market is irrelevant, it has now become a point of law: tradesmen are being prosecuted and conveyancing solicitors are insisting on the relevant paperwork from house sellers prior to completion.

Consumer organisation Which? has - not exactly altruistically, one must admit - issued a clarion call to house buyers and sellers this week flagging up its own publication on the subject of HIPs: 'Buy, Sell and Move House' by Kate Faulkner.

More on this brave new world below.

We can always rely on LB Plastics - whether it's James Litchfield or David Strang - to not mince words when making a point. This time it's James' turn, after successfully taking his company to foreign trade shows Fensterbau, in Germany, and the NAHB in the USA in the last few weeks.

'We haven’t exhibited at Glassex or Interbuild this year because we don’t feel that they are creating worthwhile direction for the industry. Promotion of these UK shows is poor and consequently footfall is going down,' says James.

'Like the NAHB show in the US, Fensterbau continues to show how these events can be a great success, so why can’t the UK get it right?' he adds.

James further suggests that the UK fenestration market should take a leaf out of the Americans book and organise its own exhibition. More on this below.

Meanwhile, announcing the 18th Roofline Report, Tony Walsh, Managing Director of Freefoam, who sponsors the report, says: 'What a difference a day makes. On the 19th May yet another cellular foam roofline manufacturer, Permacell, was put into the hands of the administrator. Premier Procell collapsed the year before. Vekatrim and Kestrel-BCE were also bought by Latium to sit alongside Celuform in the largest industry grouping the market has seen. It's what people mean by consolidation, or rationalisation of the industry'. More on the Roofline Report, which is compiled by MRA, below.
