There's Life in the Old Dog Yet

Who would have thought 10 years ago, when Network Veka was launched, that this week we would be celebrating its 100,000th customer and the continued success of the scheme with accumulated sales now topping £370m. More surprisingly, perhaps, given its success, is that the Network does not have more imitators, although several similair business models have come and gone over the years. Network Veka has succeeded where others have failed with a unique combination of solid support from systems company Veka, and a hard core of entrepreneur members who use the Network's very transparent structure to further their own, and fellow members' business plans. Congratulations!

Elsewhere, we have a couple more examples of the game of musical chairs which is only going to get more common, with demand levelling out while capacity shows no great signs of decreasing. Duraflex has signed up Jeff Cole's well established Essex based Select Window & Door Systems to the Diamond Suite, while Birkenhead fabricator Direct View is expecting to double output to 600 fpw after switching to WHS Halo's Eclipse system.

An interesting report from Palmer Market Research, meanwhile, on the Social Housing market, which is prospering thanks to the effects of the Decent Homes Initiative and also from the continued growth of Housing Associations (who are more easily able to use private funding) over Local Authorities. Doors are the runaway success in this sector of course, but windows are still showing growth and the nascent impact of conservatories in the social sector is surely one to watch.
