What Planet are You On?

Last week's report in The Gl@zine on the Planet 'restructure' ruffled a few feathers, with some well known industry players such as Duraflex and CCG commenting that Dean St John's company did in effect go into administration owing creditors substantial sums of money. Local press reports have also pointed out the human cost of the 'restructure', with around 50 jobs reportedly being lost. Naturally we always aim to bring both sides of every story, and will continue to report on the Planet situation as it unfolds. Receivers Deloitte of Manchester have not yet issued a Creditors List.

Oscar for Darby, Please

Hull College's new Faculty of Media and the Performing Arts must surely have been designed after an overdose of Star Wars - the 'sweeping curved glazing' or in technical lingo, the '1500mm radius pressed bends' would have looked great without Darth Vadar's head mask looming so threateningly overhead. At least he has a glint in his eye...
The new faculty in the town's George Street is proving something of a showcase for Darby Glass and its expertise in producing curved double glazed units, in this case with silicon edging.

'The challenging market conditions the industry has been facing look set to remain with us in 2006 so life is going to be pretty tough. The biggest issue is that prices throughout the supply chain are at an all time low with margins squeezed to a minimum, yet in 2006 we expect to see a cost-push at levels higher than inflation'.
