Bystronic plans to roll out Intra's advanced automation solutions into markets outside North America, including Europe. This will no doubt create some ripples among the established European PVC machinery companies, although designing machinery from scratch for the UK market will not happen overnight and some additional partnering may still be on the cards. Backed, of course, by the massive Conzetta Group, this seemingly obscure acquisition in Canada should not be taken lightly, and future developments are awaited with interest.

Also just breaking is the news that Pilkington is about to spend £2m on a series of TV commercials for its self cleaning glass Activ, starting in February and using the theme 'Keep up World'. By a strange coincidence, we also learn that Saint-Gobain's Bioclean glass is due to appear on Channel 4's Grand Designs TV Programme (and magazine) in January. Looks like 2006 is the year that window cleaners need to find alternative employment!
