The still unfolding tragedy on the American Gulf Coast reminds us of the global nature of everything that goes on these days, and the irony of little Sri Lanka offering aid to the mighty USA will surely not be lost even on the Americans themselves, who are often said to not understand irony. The B2BZine business was affected, as some of our servers are based in New Orleans, and some of The Gl@zine's sister titles were off line for about 3 days. The Gl@zine itself is hosted in the UK. While talking about the business side of the disaster, a steep jump in petrol prices will invariably damage the UK glass and fenestration industry, but hopefully will not trigger a recession. Updated estimates of residential change in England up to 2004 indicate that in 2004, on an updated provisional estimate, 70 per cent of new dwellings were built on previously-developed land, including conversions. On a lighter note, but also with a global theme, we announce this week that Velux, the Danish roof window company has agreed to sponsor the 5 Oceans solo round-the-world yacht race, which sets sail in October 2006 from the Spanish port of Bilbao.

It is also worth mentioning that we have a very good chance of reclaiming the Ashes in the final test match this week, since we only need a draw to win the series (so I hope you will all be praying for rain!) Our Project of The Week this week, fittingly, is from Titon, who installed Maxiglaze trickle vents in the new £25m OCS Stand at the Oval, where the final match will be played out from this Thursday (weather permitting!).
